we have the wii u game pad and a pro controller. is it possible to play 2 player games with one player on te game pad and one player on the pro controller? seems like the answer would be an easy yes, but I cant seem to get it set up correctly.

Yes you can. Pretty much any controller for the Wii or Wii U is compatible. You should just have to turn on the controller and press "A" on the start up screen. As long as the controller is powering on and is synced with the console, it should work.

Nope, you can't use the gamepad and pro controller in two player mode. You need another pro controller or a wiimote.

@dizzy_boy: Is right. You will need a Wiimote to play 2 player with a gamepad. Also IIRC the game pad is just used to place blocks for the other players.

Oh, wait yes you're right. I forgot the Gamepad can only be used to make stupid blocks. (Bizarre design choice from the developers).
