As a frequent violator of the 'creating duplicate threads' policy, I suggest just finally giving in and doing what they say. I used to not find it a big deal and didn't feel like searching, plus I felt like nobody would bother to look on the 74th page of a thread at what I said, but it works just as well and it's not worth half the posts being yelling at you for doing it.

Anyways, as to your thread, I completely agree. Someone here asked you to explain why, I couldn't quite explain why myself except that it's missing a certain "magic". At first I thought maybe it was because I was older and all my favorites (SMB3, YI (Yes I consider it a Mario game, I don't care), SMW & SM64) all came out when I was younger. But then I played Galaxy and saw that the magic is still possible at my age, so it's definitely a lack of something on SM3DW's part.

Wrong, Super Mario 3D World is a great game

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I think the main reason is because nothing in this game feels fresh or new. It all feels like stuff I have previously played in Mario games, it doesn't help that I just played 3D Land a year before. With every Mario title before it felt like I was playing something new and exciting. This one kinda feels like it took cool stuff from past games and just threw it all into one game.

Also not a huge fan of the smaller levels, none of them feel special. When I think back to other Mario games I can remember most of the levels perfectly where this one just feels like a bunch of random levels thrown into one package.

I enjoy it quite a lot. Some good ol' Mario platforming from time to time is good for you. Haven't cleared all the bonus stages yet though (they're sooo hard, plus I'm no master at platform games). Oh, and cat Bowser's just epic!

The controls and mechanics.

Mario's motion is stiff, the life and timing mechanics work against the gameplay, and the controls are archaic and outdated. The level design is amazing, but unfortunately it can't be enjoyed because someone thought it would be a good idea to apply mechanics that were fundamentally designed for a 2D space to a 3D game.
