Personally, I didn't like 3D Land at all, but 3D World looks pretty good.
I would have much preferred a Galaxy 3, but honestly, I didn't think it was gonna happen. I was expecting a brand new sub-series (as were alot of others), and the 3D sub-series just seems like something that should have stayed on a handheld.

That being said, 3D World looks like a great game, even to someone who didn't enjoy 3D Land, and I'm sure I'll be getting it and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I just don't see why Nintendo went this direction with the game.

I have to say, since 3D Land was the only (new) 3D Mario title on a handheld, I'm very interested in how the design will be affected now that it's a Console game. I feel that it was a deliberate choice to do this, so they could expand on the ideas of 3D Land. I mean sure, it was a different style Mario game than the past 3D ones, but it was interesting.
Honestly, the fact that it's a sequel to a handheld style game on a console interests me greatly, though I'm sure after this game you'll get your new-er 3D game.

Going back to both, 3D Land is alot easier to pick up and play, as opposed to both Galaxies. I can constantly replay the 3D World stages, I can't do that with Galaxy.
Plus, I was pretty disappointed with Galaxy 2. But I'm glad to see the 3D World bosses being as cinematic and epic as Galaxy.
Finally, I loved 3D Land.

3D Land is great. I liked the platforming very accessible. i could only play through galaxy once while ive repeatedly gone back to 3D Land. when Iwata whipped out 3D Word I was instantly pumped for a more complex version.

I haven't played 3D land, but I didn't like Galaxy and never played Galaxy 2. So hearing this point of view from others who didn't care that much for Galaxy makes me even more excited for this game.

I have to say, Mario 3D Land really was a good game, I just reeeeally hope World makes some improvements (and it looks like it may already be doing that..multiplayer looks really fun to me, and the new suit).

One thing I did not like about 3D Land though, and the same goes for just a couple of the Galaxy levels, is I feel like while the part of the level you are walking on can be pretty nice looking, the back grounds kind of suck (more 3D Land than Galaxy actually).

It's like, youre just on a oddly shaped floating island in the middle of nothingness.

I don't think 3D World looks anything like 3D Land.

Maybe its the camera angle in multiplayer that makes people think its 3D Land... From what the developer told us, the camera can be modified in singleplayer mode to play like any other 3D Mario game out there, including 64/Sunshine style. So I don't get why people are slamming this game.

I'm glad its not Galaxy 3. We just had 2 games in the Galaxy series back to back. They are my 2 favorite games of all time. In fact I put both above Ocarina of Time, but I'm ready to see something different with 3D Mario..... The idea of having multiplayer in a 3D Mario game is mind blowing for me, so its hard for me to fault this decision. The New Super Mario Brothers series isn't all that exciting in singleplayer mode unless you are really really into 2D Platformers. When Nintendo added 4 player madness, the title is instantly a party game favorite when people come over, and it looks like EAD Tokyo wants to capture that element for 3D Mario..... I think its going to add a level of fun to the series that we haven't seen in any game yet to date from any system in any genre.

I know exactly what you mean. 3D Land gave me that feeling too (as well as Galaxy, but it worked really well in Galaxy), but I don't think 3D World is going to give that same feeling. It looks like each level is a coehesive element attached to the previous level and the next level, so its a progression of interconnected worlds... of course I'm only basing that on the few levels we have seen so far, so we will have to wait until the final version is released before I can say definitely.

We haven't even seen the overworld for this game yet, if there is even going to be one..... It could just go from level to level, without an over world making it feel interconnected. I'm really holding off judgement until I see how they attach every level to the game itself.

But from what I saw at Bestbuy this is probably going to be my most anticipated game this year. Every doubter who went on to play the demo is a believer, so thats' a good sign.

I know what you mean about that as well. The whole 'floating island' effect thing. It's been an issue in all 3D Mario games to be honest, how many Mario 64 levels were basically floating in nothingness? Tons!

Whomp's Fortress
Cool Cool Mountain
Wet-Dry World
Tall Tall Mountain
Tiny Huge Island...

Yeah, Nintendo has a bit of a problem making 3D Mario levels feel connected to the world around them.

Here's hoping this game's levels feel more like they're part of a cohesive world rather than blocks floating in the sky. The grass levels seem to do well here...

They should have looked inward, rather than outward. They've had Super Mario Land, World, Galaxy, and the only logical step to go next is Universe. That will probably come a little later in the Wii U's life once they figure out all the cool stuff they can do with the Wii U itself. So to hold us off until then, they should have gone with Super Mario in U, where Mario and his pals are super tiny and inside a human body. Replace all the stars you have to collect with cancer cells or something. Actually, yeah, this time instead of saving Peach from Bowser (yawn), you're saving her from some medical condition. The Gamepad has been underutilized as of yet, so use it to scan parts of your anatomy and it'll help create some of the backgrounds to the levels. Imagine Mario jumping around between your arm hairs.

Real missed opportunity there, Nintendo.

Nintendo has always liked the platforms in the sky thing. I'm think im used to everything taking place in the air lol

People need to remember that EAD Tokyo has never made an HD game before. So if you don't like the direction 3D World is going in, wouldn't you prefer they cut their HD teeth on this title instead of the one you wanted them to make?

If Nintendo is planning on making two 3D Mario games this generation, wouldn't you prefer they choose this game to get accustomed to the hardware instead Super Mario Universe?

I think the whining about this title is completely unnecessary and childish. And I'm 100% certain Koichi Hayashida has read alot of these self entitled gamers having a meltdown.. He calls it the grand culmination of all 3D Mario games and you can tell how proud and excited he was to show off his game he has been putting so many hours into it, so you can expect he was dying to get feedback from fans.. And he sees "fans" ripping his game even before they even played it, that has to just be crushing and frustrating to read.

But in the end, I think he will be vindicated and the game will sell gangbusters and move a few million Wii U units driving the install base... I think it will also be an evergreen title for Nintendo and keep selling through the Wii U's entire life cycle.

I REALLY would like a game in the same realm as Mario 64 and Sunshine. Personally, I did not like Galaxy as much as others. That being said, I have not played it in awhile and look to replay it and try out Galaxy 2. Also, this game does look pretty fun and the boss fight and river level look great!

I don't think that's exactly how it works. Land was used as shorthand for "portable" during the SNES era in the same way that the "New" is used for a revisiting of the 2D Mario. If anything it's...

Super Mario Land -> Super Mario 3D Land
Super Mario World -> Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario Bros -> New Super Mario Bros
Super Mario 64 -> Super Mario Sunshine -> Super Mario Galaxy -> ????

lol i never thought of the series's that way and its got me a bit excited imagine if this game is going to be like a 3d super mario world like land was a 3d mario land.

put it on.

SparkOfSpirit

The game played great from what I've played. I liked 3D Land, but it was way beyond that one in level design and general execution.

The game will be great.
