Super Mario 3D World got mixed reactions during Nintendo's E3 Direct. Fans praised it for its multiplayer, but shunned it for its linearity and lack of creativity (which I understand those fans although I am excited for Super Mario 3D World). However, Mr. Miyamoto said that Mario will most likely return to a single player focus and that we can expect a continuation of the Super Mario Galaxy series. This most likely means we'll see a third Galaxy title on Wii U in the future. I would be fine with a Super Mario Galaxy 3 because Nintendo usually tends to use their creative smarts more with the Galaxy series. To all those underwhelmed about Super Mario 3D World, I would simply think of 3D World as a filler for a superb future 3D Mario title for Wii U. I would definitely expect another 3D Mario sometime during Wii U's lifetime, especially since the Wii received 2 3D Mario titles.

Please discuss!

Oh please, SMG2 has no more innovation than NSMBWii. They may have started galaxy on a high note, but it's sequel is far less creative than you imply. Already 3d world looks more creative than SMG2.

Although I'd rather have Galaxy 3 over 3d World, it would be nice to have something completely new..

Hahahaha! You're comparing New Super Mario Bros. Wii's creativity level to Super Mario Galaxy 2's creativity level? Hysterical!
... ...you're joking, right?

Anyways, I never said I think Super Mario 3D World was uncreative, but other fans think so. The multiplayer aspect of Super Mario 3D World, the new dinosaur friend, the Cat suit, and the Super Mario Bros. 2 references are all really creative additions. But, I mean, Super Mario 3D World is NOT as creative as Super Mario Galaxy 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 had many new concepts (Yoshi in space, multiple Marios, drilling through planetoids, making clouds appear from thin air, etc.) and new, creative galaxies that set it apart from its predecessor, while Super Mario 3D World has the same basic concepts and environments, with the exception of multiplayer and different playable characters with different abilities. 3D World looks creative nonetheless though.

I agree with you, although Super Mario 3D World definitely doesn't look bad. I would like something completely new also. But I'm just fine with a Galaxy 3 in the future.

please don't lie so blatantly, it's quite rude

But seriously, there's a big difference between making a sequel to a creative game because you have some cool level ideas you had to leave out and making a sequel with factually minimal-to-no new ideas to a game that already had most of its ideas just taken from the old Mario games.

Super Mario 3D World > Super Mario Galaxy = New Super Mario Bros. Wii > Super Mario Galaxy 2 > Super Mario 3D World

That's what I think, or something similar. I don't really care to go into much detail, though.

List the parts of SMG2 that were different than the original. If you say the level design is completely and utterly different from the original then the same most definitely applies to NSMBWii compared to NSMBDS. If you say the inclusion of Yoshi completely changes the gameplay, Yoshi is in NSMBWii. If you say the power ups offer a unique twist to SMG's awesome formula, NSMBWii had power ups that most certainly did the same. The only real argument I can agree with on SMG2's side is that it had mostly unique bosses, but it also gave an entire level filled with old bosses from SMG, and it reused a galaxy and music. To my knowledge NSMBWii didn't even share a single song with the DS game. I'm not saying either was a bad game, I'm just proving a point about the equal lack of innovation in both titles, which didn't really hinder my enjoyment of either game. Give me a list of innovations that SMG added to 3d Mario games, then maybe you'll persuade me. Otherwise, I stand firm in the belief that SMG2 is not creative on any large scale.

what

I should've specified, at least it didn't share the unaltered soundtrack, it did remix the heck out of the DS game's music.

List of Super Mario Galaxy 2's most creative galaxies:
Yoshi Star Galaxy
Supermassive Galaxy
Spin-Dig Galaxy
Fluffy Bluff Galaxy
Flip-Swap Galaxy
Puzzle Plank Galaxy
Boulder Bowl Galaxy
Wild Glide Galaxy
Beat Block Galaxy
Flipsville Galaxy
Chompworks Galaxy
Sweet Mystery Galaxy
Throwback Galaxy
Flash Back Galaxy
Hightail Falls Galaxy
Grandmaster Galaxy

... and almost every other galaxy in Galaxy 2 were creative environments that its predecessor didn't have. While New Super Mario Bros. Wii's environments were borrowed form past games, as well as bosses all being borrowed too, while Super Mario Galaxy 2 has new bosses, as well as including old ones in a bonus galaxy for nostalgia sakes, while New Super Mario Bros. Wii had no new bosses.

I'd be more likely to agree if Nintendo had made a Mario game recently that wasn't exactly what to expect from initial trailers. Or if this game existed for a reason other than to make money (not a bad thing but they needed a Mario game this holiday season and this is the one they have).

I'll be honest, my only real issue with this game is way too many samey Mario games being released rather than anything wrong with this game (barring apparently failing to get as catchy a song as the 3DS one).

Ya know this statement is actually pretty obvious considering its only the BEGINNING OF THE WII Us LIFE. Of course there's going to be another 3D Mario game! I doubt Nintendo would go this whole generation without another game in the pipes, especially considering the success of Galaxy 2.

You're right! It's just that people are bashing Super Mario 3D World for "not being as good as the Galaxy titles". Of course it's not as good because it's only a filler for a stellar, more creative, large-scale, exploration-friendly 3D Mario game! I'm just pointing that out because people fail to realize that Super Mario 3D World won't be the only 3D Mario to hit Wii U, and Nintendo is planning something bigger in the future! I simply think as Super Mario 3D World as a substitute for until when Nintendo releases an more creative, exploration-friendly Mario game in the Wii U's future. So I'm simply thinking as Super Mario 3D World as a stepping stone for something big, and when 3D World's released, I'm going to enjoy it for what it is.

@ClassicSonicFan Yoshi did nothing in space he didn't do on land, aside from launching on the stars. Cloud Mario could easily be compared to the propellor suit, the method of ascension is all that changes. And the multiple Marios are just taking a cue from sunshine and SMG 1, it's just the same scenario of chasing backwards. The drill is the only thing you listed I might consider to be unique, and that could also be countered by the propellor block. They both innovated the same lackluster amount from their predecessors. And 3d world as far as we know thus far has a new soundtrack, new bosses, and a new power up, those are only the features revealed as of now (correct me if I missed anything else new).

Here's my point about the list-
Yoshi Star Galaxy-Level Based on Yoshi, guess what NSMBWii had as well
Supermassive Galaxy-Tiny Huge Island from SM64 did it first
Spin-Dig Galaxy-Level based on a Power-Up NSMBWii had plenty of those as well
Fluffy Bluff Galaxy-Level based on a power-up NSMBWii had plenty of those as well
Flip-Swap Galaxy- I believe this was a reformatted SMG1 level
Puzzle Plank Galaxy-All that was really there were those ground pound switches and others present in one, not to mention the boss of honey hive(or whatever) from one)
Boulder Bowl Galaxy-Level based on a power-up NSMBWii had plenty of those as well
Wild Glide Galaxy-I'll give you that one.
Beat Block Galaxy-
Flipsville Galaxy- Super Mario Sunshine did it first
Chompworks Galaxy- I believe there were plenty of those chomp cannons and the like in one.
Sweet Mystery Galaxy- another Yoshi level, NSMBWii did it as well
Throwback Galaxy-really, you're using a stage from the first 3d Mario ever to show how innovative this one is?
Flash Back Galaxy-If this one is the one with the lights that turn on an off, it's been done to death in other games.
Hightail Falls Galaxy-another Yoshi level, NSMBWii did it as well
Grandmaster Galaxy- Just being difficult doesn't make it innovative. Not to mention almost everything in the level was present in one.

The Koopalings weren't new bosses! The Koopalings appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990; 19 years before NSMBWii) and Super Mario World (1991; 18 years before NSMBWii). I know they weren't in NSMBDS, but that doesn't mean they're completely new bosses!
