The new 3D Mario is Super Mario 3D World, which is essentially Super Mario 3D Land on steroids with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad as playable characters, new enemies never seen before and returning enemies like Chargin' Chuck, and the new power-up is possibly going to be my favorite, the Cat Suit!

Looks like there is plenty of touchscreen gameplay.

This game will be better than it looks, it's just the overall impression being of a 3D Land in HD.

Still, dissapointing after the sheer majesty of the Galaxy games.

I was slightly disappointed by this, sincs I didn't enjoy 3D Land that much either. But I guess it'll be fun anyway.

I was really excited for the new 3D Mario going into the broadcast, and now I'm really disappointment.
My excitement for this is almost 0.

I feel mixed about this game.

Wishfully, I had wanted Nintendo to reveal some great successor to the likes of 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy, with the same grand style and everything. Though at the same time, I somewhat expected Nintendo to go with a similar style of game to what 3D Land was, considering its success.

The 4 player addition seemed kind of predictable as well, since Nintendo made "multiplayer in a Mario game" the big catch of New Super Mario Bros. Wii back in 2009, so I can understand a similar update happening with the 3D iterations of the Mario series.

I am really impressed with how great the levels not only look visually but in terms of design as well. That river level looked particularly fun to play.

Underwhelming. I've been patient with Nintendo. I put up with the lack of games because I knew that 3D Mario was gonna fix everything. For the first time, I feel like Nintendo has let me down. Only a complete biased fanboy can look at 3D World and put it on the level of 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy.

Hopefully this isn't the only 3D Mario we'll get in the Wii U's lifetime. The game looks great, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but after the Galaxy games, it is very underwhelming.

I still think we'll get a Galaxy-esque Mario game, but with this coming out, it won't be for quite a while.

Exactly the type of game the Wii U needs to attract people who don't frequent sites discussing video games. I'm not surprised at all that people on this site are generally disappointed. The game is going to ring familiar with casuals, which is a good thing for sales.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Seriously, us gamers have to be the biggest complainers on Earth...

With that said, I'm happy to see Peach playable and the SM2 mechanic come back.

Agreed. Whether the game is the most interesting and whether Nintendo successfully got titles to get the system to sell are not necessarily the same thing.

I honestly think it looks more compelling and seems to have at least some creative ideas and I understand they kinda didn't have a choice but to make this instead of something Galaxy. Still...eh?

This game, like 3D Land before it, is an exercise in getting people over 'the 3D gameplay barrier'.

There will be no DVD instructional video packed in with this.

Same here. At least it has multiplayer which I'm sure could be a lot of fun. But I'm still disappointed.

If people aren't interested in a certain title then that's their right.

"DVD instructional video packed in with this."

There were no DVD instructional videos released with the other titles in the US, which is a huge market (although I do understand they were released in Pal reigions and I think Japan.

We've had 3D for close to two decades. I don't think we need to "get people past the 3D" barrier. Skyrim and Call of Duty and Mass Effect, etc, all major titles, are massive hits. Gamers know the 3D by now.

Yep.

Not that I find anything bad about the new game but it felt too safe, at no point in the trailer did I see any big risks taken. Sure the 3D land formula was a success and this game will follow suit but based on what was presented, this is not the Mario game that will make me want to buy a WiiU.
