Topic: Super Luigi: download or retail? Difference?

I'm a little confused as to the difference between the Super Luigi download version vs. retail.

Should I buy Super Mario Bros. U now then download Luigi as DLC, or wait for the full retail release of Luigi U? I can't seem to find information on what the difference between these two approahches might be, except that, for the DLC version, you need to already own Mario Bros.

Thanks in advance

Their is no difference really except the fact that with retail you don't have to own Super Mario Bros U and you can just own Luigi U and it depends do you want just Luigi U or Super Mario Bros U as well if you want both buy Super Mario Bros U and get the dlc because it's $10 cheaper then retail but if you just want Luigi U you will have to get the disc and that's only $30 dollars! I already own Mario Bros U so I will be getting the download.

If I don't buy retail, I don't like the idea though that I have to put in the NSMB U disc every time (is that the way it will work?)

They should do it once to verify and then allow without disc.

Does anyone know when the pro controller update comes? also how is Nintendo going to make use of the motion part of the Wii U game pad on the wii u pro controller?

I'm personally getting the retail version despite having the original. The snazzy green case is worth the $10 extra to me, especially since I love Luigi.

The only difference will the price and the fact that you get a snazzy green case if you buy the physical version. Of course to get the download version you have to have NSMBU so if you dont own that than it just might be more cost affective to just buy the physical copy?

Another thing to go off the subject here why does everyone refer to physical copies as retail? What are digital games free now? Cause last time I check digital media was retail as well.

I already traded in NSMBU and pre-ordered the retail version of NSLU so I'd only have to own one and could sell NSLU later if I tire of it. The retail version should come with Club Nintendo coins, but I'm wondering if another difference will be that the DLC version won't, as I don't think any DLC has included coins thus far.

Nintendo will not discriminate here. I'm pretty sure the physical version and the digital version will have the same amount of CN coins.

Wow, had no idea I'd started such a long thread.

Thanks, all. At the risk of asking a dumb question, would I be right in assuming that if I just buy the physical NSLU then I don't get the Mario version of the game? In other words, if you want to play both the Mario and Luigi versions of the game, you need a physical NSMBU and then the NSLU DLC, right?

I'm waiting for the disc release, because it offers much better value:

  • No need for New SMB U - I can use Luigi U even if I don't have the older game at hand
  • Works on any Wii U console: can be borrowed to friends, used on secondary consoles, or traded away if you feel like it
  • A stylish collectible game in my game shelf that might even go up in value because it's a limited release

Nintendo consistently offers more CN coins for download vs retail copy and many games only get CN coins if you download.

I'm getting the disc for all the reasons stated by others and also because it was on an E3 sale here for the same price as the DLC.

I like the idea of DLC, but the fact I'd have to buy a hard drive, deal with it's physical and power footprint, vs a physical copy which doesn't make me dependent on my system to play the game and gives me other options. Downloading isn't tempting enough for me yet.

Not always, Tetris Axis is 20 coins for the download vs 30 for the physical copy. Also, it looks like the DLC is 20 + 20 early reg + 10 post play, whereas the retail should be 30 + 10 intend-to-buy + 10 early reg + 10 post-play, so we still might end up getting more coins with the retail version despite the special coins offer for the DLC, but 10 extra coins would be about fair considering it costs $10 more.
