Looking at getting the Wii U primarily to play some older games, but of course don't want to miss out on the newer
titles.
Can I please confirm: as long as I have the discs, remotes, guns, etc. for the Wii I will not require any additional hardware? E.g I don't need to have a Wii console that links them together? I would assume not.
I would hold out until at least the NX is revealed. I understand you want to play old games, but the addition of them could end as
A. The WiiU is a failing console
B. With that, support for it may end
C. That would happen because of the reveal of the NX.
The NX may have virtual console or it may not. I'm not saying to not get it, I'm simply saying to keep your options open.

I'm not saying to downright ignore the WiiU and go for the NX, I'm saying wait for the NX and see which console you like better.
There's the issue that the NX may not be backwards compatible, which means that the only possible Wii games will mostly be Nintendo games. 99% of all third party titles won't be usable
