Hyrule warriors will only sell well because of the use of the Legend of Zelda franchise. If it was a standard Tecmo game, it would not sell anywhere near half of what it should, and that should be glaringly obvious.
As far as I'm concerned, major 3rds need to start bringing out more smaller projects and stop putting all their money on one huge game that could end up beeing bank breakers.

Irrelevant.

It doesn't matter who's in the game and who makes it. Sales matter. That makes Tecmo Koei more important to the Wii U than Activision right now.

How's it irrelevant? It's not like warriors irochi, nijnja gaidaen, or fist of the north star were system sellers for the wiiu were they.

Nintendo and Nintendo console owners have had a long and mostly turbulent relationship with 3rd parties, and never has it been more glaring then it is now with the Wii U.

Recent comments and actions by Ubisoft have prompted me to post this topic. It seems they've fallen into the same bloated, arrogant role as mega publisher EA. Rather then respecting various console owners over the long term (like they seemed to do in the past), it's make a quick buck and move on. I don't need to chronicle the endless string of decisions that leave a bad taste in the mouths of Wii U owners from pushing back release dates at the 11th hour to multi-port Rayman Legends to their recent statements about withholding a finished game (probably some Rabbids shovelware) until the user-base is larger and the as of yet unreleased Watchdogs for Wii U with no set date in sight.

Okay, you know all this, but what's this got to do with Call of Duty, right?

Well...when people say "Ubisoft is the last 3rd party to support the Wii U" it's just not true. Activision is. That's right. Activision is the last major third party to support the Wii U with games like Call of Duty and Skylanders. Not only that, but unlike EA and UBIsoft, Activision corporate officers and developers aren't out there trashing the WIi U and acting like smug fanboys on their twitter feeds.

Will the next Call of Duty come to the Wii U? I really don't know...but if it doesn't it won't be amidst a storm of broken promises, childish public attacks, and stupid twitter comments. It simply won't be announced and we can move on with our lives.

Just think about it.

True. Activision isn't as bad as some say they are. They're okay, and CoD haters can have their opinions. For that matter, I think it's overrated myself, but it's not a bad game. The game works, it's generally well-balanced, etc. Battlefield 4 on the other hand...Anyways, that's what I have to say on CoD. Even if it isn't your thing, it's good for what it is. As for Ubisoft, they aren't as bad as you say they are. Yeah, there's some opinionation, but let's get started. I'm almost certain they would've made a loss on Rayman if it it was Wii U exclusive. However, Microsoft has a rule saying that games cannot come out on other systems first & Xbox later. That's why Metal Gear Solid has the Substance versions. Not that cynicism opens your eyes to that, though it is worth noting they could've done something similar to that, but only by giving Xbox the Wii U exclusive levels. As for Watchdogs, they clearly didn't want to piss their fans off with another delay, so they chose the least popular systems to have unpolished or delayed again: PC & Wii U. Sad, but true. Asking for them to prioritize you is like saying screw over 80% of gamers for the 20% including me. I've seen it. Yeah, Ubisoft was screwy with the PC version of Watchdogs, but some of those gamers were so pretentious and elitist it was obnoxious. Delay it, they hate you. In need of a patch, they still hate you. Cater to them, you just hurt 80% of gamers for 20%. It's a hard truth some refuse to suck up. Sad, but true. Lastly, Ubisoft at least has the decency to support the Wii U. As bad as EA? Yeah right.

I had a hard time parsing your wall of text, but I don't think you addressed anything I actually said, and instead made up some weird tangents.

"As for Watchdogs, they clearly didn't want to piss their fans off with another delay, so they chose the least popular systems to have unpolished or delayed again: PC & Wii U. Sad, but true. Asking for them to prioritize you is like saying screw over 80% of gamers for the 20% including me. "

Whhaaaaat? When did I ask for anyone to "prioritize" me? I'm a PC owner too and yeah...not happy about Ubisoft's treatment of PC users lately either.

  • What is this 80%-20% ratio you keep brining up, I'm sorry but I don't follow that at all. Please explain that.
  • The problem is not porting to other consoles in the case of Rayman, the problem was going so close to release date...then not releasing a finished game so they could release in multiplatform months later.

Another problem is that pretty early on, Ubisoft just stopped releasing DLC and putting much effort into ports. People got the impression it was "safer" to buy those on their PS3 or Xbox360...or not even take a look at the Wii U version at all, since that is where the fanbase of these games are, and Ubisoft was just expecting to magically covert them to a new platform with incomplete and poorly optimized ports.

  • The expectations were pretty unrealistic.

Also, Zombi U just didn't look much like a "next gen" game and it reviewed pretty poorly. Sorry if people didn't rush out to buy a mediocre looking game with poor review scores.

Nobody is going to buy a Wii U to play Call of Duty either though. Let's face it, first party titles are Nintendo system sellers, nothing else. It's been that way since the N64. Third parties aren't going to get anyone buy a Wii U, but they can successfully sell to its installed base. It's especially effective if they include some first party IP in their games. Soulcalibur 2 for example had the highest attach rate on Gamecube because it included Link as an exclusive character. Sony has since come a lot way with its IP, but I get the feeling that even today, Link exclusive Soulcalibur would have a higher attach rate than Nathan Drake exclusive Soulcalibur.

It's a shame the concept of the Gamepad isn't providing incentive for more developers to create the "definitive" version of a game on the U. Arkham City, Rayman Legends, and Deus Ex proved that the Wii U can provide a great and unique experience for multiplats, even with less power than PS4/XBO.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Food for thought:

Could it be that the early adopters of the Wii U were generally the most dedicated Nintendo fanbase who simply weren't used to buying these annualized franchise games like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision produce...So the idea that the small, early adoption fanbase would flock to these titles and create much higher attach rates then we're seeing with PS4 and XBoxOne with their fanbases used to buying these franchises now in order to justify further support might have been a little presumptuous of a goal?

Well I certainly have more respect for Activision than Ubisoft these days since they're actually aware that females play their yearly franchise and don't seem to have any trouble animating a boob.

Hello all. Yeah...ummm...I kind of did buy the Wii U for 3rd party support and I did early adopt.

Well mainly a fat dude in a gaming store told me that 1) the wii u would have all the big games, 2) it would also have all the best kids games, and 3) you can play without the TV. So I thought why not, why not get my first nintrndo instead of the old sony/xbox tech that will probably b replaced next year anyway.

Anyway, played lots of blops2, ignored Ghosts on the basis probably would get the next one. Filled in my time checking this website and others for news stories and playing 3 D world with my son.

But back to the OP I have no hate on ubisoft or activision, they gave it a shot. just hasnt really worked out. EA on the otherhand, well considering the playing disaster that bf4 is, well, nintendo is far better off without them

No one's defending Ubisoft. There are a crapton of gamers pissed at them for the whole Watch_Dogs thing on PC. As for Call of Duty, I feel like it's gotten worse over the years, but that's just my opinion.

I'm really running out of ideas for my signature.

I don't think it's a good idea to actively hate anything, ever. I just find it hard to believe that this is all Ubisoft, Activision, EA, etc. can make, especially when I haven't cared about many of their games, ever. I've played CoD and AC, and they genuinely don't interest me much.

When Splatoon comes out, that will probably sell better on Wii U than CoD ever will, and that's fine. That's why Nintendo is making that type of game, probably. I'd honestly rather play Plants vs. Zombies or Kinect Sports Rivals, than CoD or AC too.

Like I said, I don't actively hate Ubisoft or Activision. I just think it's a shame that people have chosen the games that everyone should be considering the top games, based on sales, even if anyone thinks otherwise.

EDIT: Rayman is ok, the Tony Hawk games are ok, and The Sims are ok. I'd rather even play the f***ing Harry Potter Quiditch game on GameCube, from EA, rather than Battlefield.

The once shame on you twice shame on me is a good way of dealing with companies otherwise you just get constantly ripped off.

Because of Ubisoft and Starforce I had to reload my computer at a time when it was a complete nightmare everything had to be done from disks. Other DRM's had to be dealt with. More hassle for me than any supposedly criminal malware/virus. Shows what sort of a company they are. (I treat them the same as somebody who deliberately broke something of mine).

Sony are a similar type of company (Which is why I now won't buy anything from them - They won't fix manufacturing defects which any reputable company will).

EA are ok they only add stuff to Steam when it has all the DLC included. (Other than the Sims 3 with its £320 worth of DLC). I used to like Westwood/Bioware/Bullfrog but usually they are starting to go downhill anyway by the time EA becomes interested.

To be fair we've never seen a woman in the Call of Duty campaigns which would require more animation. Most of the game is in first person and the multiplayer female model works the same as the male model.

Ubisoft put out Child of Light and Valiant Hearts both featuring female protagonists.

As per the defending of Activision I don't see Call of Duty or Destiny confirmed for the system. The only support your going to see from them are their licensed fare and sklyanders.

Something that I find interesting about the Wii U CoDs is that they included a player using the Gamepad while the other uses the TV and Wiimote+ Nunchuck support. And they have online. But I think they lack DLC. Capcom could not be bothered to add Wiimote+Nunchuck support to its Revelations port, even if that was one of the best parts of RE4 Wii Edition.

I find Ubisoft dumb for wasting resources completing a game they know they won't release anytime soon, instead of relocating that team to help with the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs so it could be released months before or have that team making a game they can sell now. I also feel Zombi U could have been more polished if they did not have this sequelitis mentality, so they don't do their best because they are confident that the sequel will fix the mistakes of the first one, as seems to be the case with AC and probably WD.

I feel tempted to keep addressing Ubisoft as Ubi$oft.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

@sinalefa
Ubisoft is Ubi$oft. All they do is release Assassin's Creed, every f***ing year, and if you don't buy it, you must not like 3rd parties.

All I know is:
Rayman open world game > AC

Well, people always give Wii U owners crap about not buying 3rd party games that they don't care about. If people aren't buying CoD and AC on Wii U, do you really think those same people are going to care when they stop getting games from those franchises? The answer is no.

I would rather have a new Tony Hawk Pro Skate, Spore/Sims, or 3D Rayman.
