Is anybody else worried that the new controller lay outs won't feel right in the upcoming smash game? I used gamecube and just loved it. Have the pro u controller and it's great, but looks like the buttons are in the wrong spots.

i used the classic controller the most in Brawl, followed by just Wii Remote... I am not worried

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Maybe the Classic Controller will be supported? In that case, you could use an adapter for the GC controller.

I'm a little confused by that as well. Does it match up a to a, b to b, etc. Or is it like b on camcube is where y is on classic controller etc.

Knowing Sakurai, you will be able to assign any function to any button, so I am not worried.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

When I used the Classic Controller Pro for Monster Hunter Tri, I got used to the Pro Controller easily when 3 Ultimate came out. Point being it'll be the same for Smash.

This. Brawl already allowed custom configuration, so I'm pretty sure you can do the same on the new games.

hopefullly this way, if any button breaks I'll assign taunt to it.
oh wait this is for the WiiU version, don't worry the WiiU version's controls are nothing to worry about, the 3DS version on the other hand...

3rded. It already exists in Brawl. Besides, the newer controllers aren't even that difficult to get used to. I played SSBB w/ a GCN controller, basically religiously. Once I transferred all my data to Wii U, I was forced upon the Classic Controller Pro, but it wasn't that difficut.

It was about as difficult as going from the N64 controller to GCN.

I would worry about the 3DS control limitations more lol

Maybe instead of two jump buttons there will be a Smash button to replace missing a Smash stick. Then with L and R, 1 is shield and the other is grab?

We had to eventually stop using the GC controller, so I would start learning to play without it

yeah that's my worry too, on WiiU it'll be fine, I bet it'll be almost exactly like Brawl with a Classic Controller Pro.
now the 3DS version, that's a problem...
hope they release the "super bulky ultimate fighting game sticks and buttons" add-on or a 3DSXL "Fighting game enhanced model" to play with SSB 3DS without breaking the handheld in the first 50 hours(not joking)

Although GCN controller was my first choice for Brawl, the game is certainly playable with other controllers, even Wii Remote and Nunchuk worked fine for me.
The GamePad and the Pro Controller layout is perfect for me, not worried at all. I would worry about playing it on 3DS, I feel like I would get hand cramps all too often.

If there isn't Classic Controller support so I can't use one of those GC adapters (which is a possibilty Nintendo has stopped manufacturing Classic Controllers), I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet, get a Pro Controller and live with it.

The real problem is the fact that at the moment there is no wired way to play Smash that we know of, which will cause major problems in tournament settings where multiple consoles are being played at once, since there will be a lot of interference from each controller and console affecting the rest of them.

Super Smash Bros is why virtual reality was invented.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Always has this idea where Nintendo would release a pro controller that was specifically made for smash bros, it would be shaped like a GameCube controller and the labels would be changed(R-Stick would be named SMASH STICK, A would be NORMAL).

I'm fond of the GC controller myself, but if you haven't broken yourself from it yet now would be a good time to do so.

For me personally, I'll probably alternate between the Pro controller and the gamepad, depending on what benefits there are when using the latter.

I'm not worried. The WiiU Pro controller feels great & I'm sure it'll be a delight to play SSB with.

The mayfly adapter works perfectly for using a gamecube controller with little discern able lag. I use it to play my VC games and will probably use that or the Wii pro controler.
