Most of the time it is really smooth and it tends to drop when there's a lot going on, and it's really not affecting my gameplay, but today I played Rainmaker for the first time in Mahi Mahi Resort and the drops became more aparent and continuous (sorry if misspelled). Does anybody experience matches like this? Could the internet connection be a problem?

@Kinan: Nope, just in multiplayer and in some maps (Mahi Mahi, Museum and Blackbelly) is more noticeable

It's more of a small city and yeah I kinda have a crappy internet. The download is okay (12mbps) but the upload is utter garbage (0.92 mbps max.). I'm not really sure how upload speed works with games but I suppose it is important. Thanks

I notice that the framerate dips when there's lots of things going on. Normally a Killer Wail and bomb rush will give me a quick framerate drop when there's heaps of stuff going on, but its fine normally.

Yes i have noticed it and it is quite bad at times, it screws up my aim. I really don't like it.

It's worse on some maps, like Museum, Mahi-Mahi, Camp Triggerfish. It also seems to me that some weapons make it even worse, like the Jet Squelcher.

It can't be our internet since it's really fast and if it was then these fps-drops should be happening on every map. I guess the Wii U just can't handle it when it gets chaotic..

Splatoon is notoriously hard on upload. It uses more data as well than any online multi game I can recall. Do not use WIFI, if at all possible (especially not crappy all in one modem+wireless router devices, they are bad for gaming and generally bad overall). You can find many Wii Ethernet adapters (fully compatible with Wii U) for cheap online.

Splatoon should be generally silky smooth minus the occasional multiple bomb rush extravaganza, etc. Especially on the more open maps like Blackbelly. So if that's your only problem, that's just how online gaming is... Still I highly suggest everyone use an Ethernet adapter. It's worth it.

I'm on 6.5Mbps UL, 0.7Mbps DL, basically half the connection speed. I don't have issues with Splatoon online. With online games things like connection stability, latency and so on have more of an impact than speed. Also worth looking at whether other devices are hammering your connection. Your router might have some QoS settings but you'd probably get further just checking to make sure that you don't have a large DL/UL running or similar.
