The lack of voice chat is worrisome for me, but this is still my most hyped up game for this year, simply due to aesthetics and concept alone. I primarily play platformers and shooters, and action games, so this is right up my alley.

But there's a little more than translation when it comes to localization. You don't know how much content will create cultural dissonance with a given region ahead of time. Each region probably has their own age rating system, and it could be anything from changing some dialogue, changing the box art, or even changing one of the models.

Damn right. I realised this when playing Wind Waker. NPCs use the repeated joke of referring to the Triforce as the "Triumph Forks" as a great way of suggesting this knowledge had been passed by hearsay and just got slightly confused in the process.

But then you think about it for a second. That wordplay wouldn't work in any other language. They either had a similar-ish joke in other languages or the localisation team came up with that specifically for the english version (and then probably had to go and explain it to the japanese writers, who might be cautious about people inserting jokes into their game). Of course, when you're playing it, you just don't tend to think about this stuff.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Precisely. And that's why humor in the Legend of Zelda tends to be dry, at least as far as dialogue goes. There's a difference between coming up with an interesting and funny idea during development, and having to figure out a joke based on the situation during localization.

If you played Majora's Mask, you may have come across Link the Goron, who shares the same name as you, and is therefore the reason why you apparently had a reservation at the inn. He has a heavy accent, so the inn keeper doesn't understand him properly when he asks about his room ("...no, there doesn't seem to be a 'Link-goro' on the list. There's one close to that, but..."). Though, the only difference in his language seems to be the addition of -goro at the end of his sentences. When I was a kid, I found this confusing, because he didn't seem to have an accent, and I didn't understand why he added -goro to everything, or why his reservation was wrong when his name was just slightly different. Adding syllables at the end of words is a very unrealistic way to simulate an accent in text, but later on, I found out that this is actually a very common and effective way to show dialect in Japanese.

Now, had they attempted to make a more realistic accent for a Goron for English standards (how would you?), how much time would it take localizers to come up with a way to do this and still have the "wrong name" mix-up make any sense? He would have to pronounce his own name wrong, which is impossible considering how you can name your character anything you want.

Long story short, localization must be really complicated. This is just one of many conundrums localizers must face.

I don't care for no voice chat,as it would have all the little kiddies that couldn't play CoD cussing. I'm glad nintendo didn't put in RANDOM voice chat. Remember, there is a possibility for friend voice chat.

Sorry, that's what I meant. I too, enjoy muting randoms. However, this game really needs friend voice chat at least. Speaking of which, I wonder how local multiplayer is going to be? I hope it's split-screen, because I would rather look at the TV and play, than have to use the gamepad and TV hyrule warriors splitscreen style. I really did not enjoy hyrule warriors multiplayer for that reason. My girlfriend got to enjoy the awesomeness on the TV, while I had to hurt my neck by looking down at the gamepad.

That would work for me, because I love using the Gamepad. I would prefer it support more than two players, though.

LOL, I just get jealous of the player that gets the big screen TV. That's the same reason why I'm not totally on board with Kirby: Rainbow Curse. I want to see dem beautiful HD graphics!

Also, realistically I doubt we'll be seeing four players, even though the more players the merrier. It just seems like most games nowadays only have 2 players max for splitscreen, because the system just can't handle it. But Nintendo isn't a normal developer, so I guess we'll see how this goes. Maybe we'll get zero local multiplayer at all. Who knows? I hope we get it though.

I hope so. I wanna host Splatoon parties at my place.

I remember back in my early teens, when "Halo Parties" were a well-known thing at my school. You'd have a bunch of people over, make a bunch of food and soda, hook up several TVs and Xboxs together, and play Halo until dawn. Some kids even did that for their birthday. One can only dream for Splatoon, though.

So I was thinkin', what content should be in the demo it's there is one? Multiple maps but no singleplayer? Or a hybrid like mh4u?

MegaMari0

...Um...yeah last I heard Nintendo doesn't bother with that stuff until AFTER the game has released.

That seems extremely fishy. Like, "made up on the fly" fishy.

For example: two hours per stage in campaign mode? Seriously? Plus, I can't imagine Nintendo would give this kind of playtime estimate in a Direct.

That's not true anymore. Splatoon is coming with the amiibo DLC day one. And we knew about Mario Golf's DLC before it even released. shrug

I don't think that leak is accurate.

-Online Demos just seem to be way to much work for such little pay off.

-I don't think there will be a free game promotion similar to Mario Kart, and I don't think they would pick those games. (Hyrule Warriors seems like the most likely one, plus others. Possibly Wonderful 101)

-Amiibo Support, outside the dedicated Splatoon Amiibo, will probably happen but I doubt it will be anything to great, since Splatoon has didicated Amiibo.

-2D Arcade Shooter sounds like it would be a separate game, maybe on 3DS, as a cheap download or free-2-play before the game comes out, possibly right after the direct.

-14h Single Player sounds unrealistically high but willing to believe lol.

-If the Single-Player is 14h then extra hard mode seems like a waste. The game is already long enough were an extra difficulty setting probably wouldn't be fun.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The Splatoon team said they wanted to distance themselves from Mario and that information says the exact opposite so clearly fake!
