They should run a beta for like a week a month or two before launch with a couple of maps and progress being transferable.
Oh yes! Transferrable progress would be awesome! But I guess it also wouldn't be fair to people who didn't get to try the demo. But on the other hand, if the demo is available to everyone, and not just exclusive, then I don't see why they couldn't have that option to transfer over stuff. But I wouldn't want like an exclusive demo to carry over stuff, because that wouldn't be fair to everyone else.
Realistically a Club Nintendo demo type setup for Splatoon wouldn't work anyway as online shooters rely on a significant amount of people. Standard eshop demo with it being promoted heavily (something like: "Demo will appear shortly after this presentation" and remind people on twitter/facebook after the Direct).
That would be the best day ever if that happened. Has anyone here ever actually played the game yet? Is it fun and satisfying, or shallow? I'm talking about the controls and feel.
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

I was talking about an open beta like Battlefield Hardline etc I've played the expo demo it was fun fast paced and hectic, the controls felt fluid after a bit of playing and mobility is fast.

Awesome! From what I've seen, splatoon is my most hyped game this year. I hope Nintendo markets it well. Speaking of which, I just changed my profile pic to splatoony goodness.

Amen. This game looks so amazing, it deserves a demo right NOW. I would love to get an early build of the game and test it out for them. It would be free testing for Nintendo and an awesome experience for the fans.
As many nintendo fans know, nintendo recently released code name: steam demo, despite the game releasing in may. Since this is one of the most hyped new IP for 3ds, it made sense to release the demo early to appease the masses. That made me think: Splatoon is by far the most hyped new IP by nintendo on Wii U (and for some people the most hyped game ever on Wii U). What if they released a demo for splatoon on Wii U soon? Even if it was just the e3 demo, I know I would want it. Leave your thoughts on the possibility of an early demo for splatoon! (Sorry if this was posted in the wrong area. I'm new, cut me some slack!)
My reading of the situation suggests that Splatoon has a lot more people excited than Codename STEAM does!

Hey. I want both to succeed. Steam more so than splatoon cuz splatoon looks like a guaranteed hit while steam has people on the fences. New ips are better than no ips

Just wait another couple of weeks until the actual game comes out. I see little reason for a Splatoon demo.
Couple weeks? You realize it's scheduled to release in May, right?
A demo would be awesome! even if it only hafd 1 online map and no way to earn money...
Unfortunately Codename STEAM is another one of those games in which the US gets it a few months before Europe (March 13th in US compared with May 15th in Europe).

That's what happens when you live a continent with roughly 50 countries. got all them languages to translate for.

That isn't actually a valid argument for this game as it comes out in Japan on May 14th. Slightly worried that maybe Splatoon won't be a worldwide launch at the same time.

True. Then again, Japan also gets a lot of exclusive material that we on the west don't. It's easier to cut that stuff out for the west and delay the game for japan until the extras are ready.

Shouldn't be the reason for a delay though, as you'd think they'd know by know that they'd have to translate the game in multiple languages. They should be prepared for that.

But there's a little more than translation when it comes to localization. You don't know how much content will create cultural dissonance with a given region ahead of time. Each region probably has their own age rating system, and it could be anything from changing some dialogue, changing the box art, or even changing one of the models.
Well, my hype for Splatoon is dead thanks to recent news, but I'm still somewhat interested, maybe a demo would go a long way to reignite my interest at least a bit. Still, I'm just not feeling all that inclined anymore to be putting down $60 for a teambased shooter (with a really cool mechanic though) without apparently any means of communication ... just feels like half the equation is missing.
Also, the market is not starved for teambased shooters, the WiiU is, but if you own any other system, you are absolutely fine in that regard. Splatoon would have to be really, really special to justify all that, and in the end Nintendo seems hellbent on forcing the game into some kind of "casual" corner, and as far as shooters go, that might just not be for me this time around.
Still, I'd love to give it a spin, maybe it's so much fun, that I'm just gonna get it for SP or local play, and occassional online, without communications though it will never be an action mainstay of mine no matter what.

Exactly. Cultures clash all the time. Best example so far I can recall was back in the SNES days when one of the FF games had Pearl for the spell names instead of Holy because they thought it would offend the religious folks here in the US. Nintendo doesn't take any chances and they will delay it however long they need to get it perfect and avoid ruffling anyones' feathers.

All PAL games are the same. Doesn't matter if you get the game in Italy or the UK, the content will be same. The only difference is the cover (to be specific; the language on the back of the cover). The game itself is usually only translated into five languages (English, German, French, Italian and Spanish), and the game includes all language options. (There probably are some exceptions, but this is the case for 95% of the games NoE releases)
The rating system is the same for Europe as well: PEGI. Only Germany uses USK, that's the only exception.
