The movie Spider-Man opened in May 2002, broke box office records, and was a tremendous hit. Ever since, that first weekend in May has been a highly coveted release date (Age of Ultron's got it this year) and the entertainment industry has considered May the beginning of the summer season.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

The first Saturday of May is also Free Comic Book Day, which I think is why Avengers always releases the first weekend of May.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Other way around. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 to piggyback on the release of Spider-Man.
The comic book industry is tiny compared to the film industry. No executives in Hollywood base their release schedules around free comics. Yes, comic book movies have opened in May most years since 2002 (I think 2006 and 2007 are the only exceptions), but that's because comic book movies are some of the biggest and most popular movies today. Many of the biggest franchises in film have opened in May over the last 13 years too, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, and Star Wars (though Star Wars is a tradition).
Despite hating them for reviews and whatnot...I still check IGN every now and then. Anyone saw their Splatoon preview article? Looks like there will be multiple multiplayer modes after all.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
It just seems that there is a lot more going on in this game than in MK8. I mean, obviously haven't played it, but I would assume this game takes up more processing power than MK8 does, just based on what I've seen of it.
Yeah maybe. I mean, I'm a programmer who runs maths and physics simulations on a daily basis and I can't for the life of me figure out how they're doing the splashing ink effects in this game. They're insanely impressive. The only thing close was the gloopy stuff in Portal 2. Which was far easier to figure out.
I'm not a programmer by any means, and I don't claim to have any knowledge of what goes on in that, but it does always impress me how Nintendo can make the most of the hardware, when others don't seem to be able to. I mean, it is their own hardware, so maybe that has something to do with it, but still.
If this game doesn't have local multiplayer, at the very least make it so two people can log to the system at the same time to play online! Perhaps that would give them an unfair advantage, but I really want to have people over to play this somehow!

Well, that really comes down to two reasons:
1) You're right, it's their hardware, so they know how to use it to it's fullest.
2) It means more work for devs to develop for a different system, most of whom just want a quick buck so they don't want to put in that work; so we get meh ports and buggy cash-grabs (Sonic Boom, etc.). The same thing happens on PC as well. Assasin's Creed Unity is so poorly optimized for PC that even machines with DOUBLE the power of PS4/Xbox One have a hard time running the game very well.
I'll just put this out there: ZombieU makes more creative use of the Wii U's GamePad than anything put out by Nintendo itself. Which is... odd. And a shame.

And Rayman Legends is the best showcase of asymmetrical gameplay.
What I'm saying is that many people at Ubisoft are probably wasting their talents right now (or just refuse to make Ubisoft's big titles anymore).
So with Zelda being delayed, do you think Splatoon will be pushed back to flesh out the second half of the year?
No, that would just be shooting themselves in the foot. Splatoon would loose sales if anything because of that and being a new IP Nintendl certainly won't take that risk.

I make more creative use of the Wii U gamepad by using it whilst lying in the bath.

Splatoon just works as a summer game. Nintendo knows this. They know people will get more excited about something like this during the season you go out and do fun activities like super soaker fights. A game like this feels refreshing with all of these splashing sound effects after coming in from the blazing heat. Besides, a new IP like this, people would get bored of the hype rather quickly.
