IGN gave this a 5.8... that's gotta hurt, Sega. I may have to reconsider getting this after all.
Games I'm playing currently: Legend of Zelda: A Link Betweeen Worlds, Tearaway
Games I'm excited for: Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros. 4, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8

Played it at comic-con. It's soooooo good! How did it get such low scores?
Well, Nintendo Life sounds like it was disappointed by some technical faults and few design choices. I think it's possible that a lot of people were expecting too much and then hit it hard for not being what they expected. That is the actual Sonic Cycle - not that every game is bad, but that they're not as good as they want it to be.
I'm pretty surprised at the reviews this game has been getting. From the footage I've seen it at least looks like a solid 7.
And yeah, I really dislike the IGN review. The guy basically was complaining that the game actually has platforming instead of memorization and reflex based challenges like Unleashed.

that means this game probably deserves at least a 7, Gamespot underrates things 90% of the times.
I didn't see NL review yet. I'll look now!

Tim Turi of Gameinformer gave the Wii U version a 5/10. I think he gave Colors a 7 and Generations a 6. Sounds like he's not too fond of Sonic.
also keep in mind that GI very intentionally (at least last I checked) uses the 4 point system.
So far the right people are enjoying the game, which is all that matters. I don't doubt it's flawed but everything points to it being the type of flawed that's still worth your time.
the 3DS version looks good(I'm fond of infuriating levels in sonic games, for no reason that I know of!)

Gameinformer is also the site/magazine that gave Kid Icarus: Uprising a 7 and The Last Story a 6. The GI staff honestly tends to play favorites.

Reviews make me laugh. Take them for what they are - the opinion of one usually twenty-something "journalist" that spends a limited, rushed amount of time with the game. And I don't say this to defend Nintendo or Sega: this applies to all reviews for all games on all systems. The best way is ALWAYS to play a game to come to your own buying decision. Demos and kiosks are widespread these days; go find one and take five minutes to formulate the only opinion that really matters: your own.
After reading several reviews I am pretty convinced this is a solid 7.5 to 8 type game depending on what kind of gamer you are. Also watching the IGN and Gamespot video reviews is painful. Clearly they just aren't good at games like this and dinged it because they aren't that good. Don't know if I will jump in right away, but I may get it down the line.
I'll definitely be getting this, but it was never a high priority for me. The reviews haven't changed that. I'll still be getting it next year, along with Rayman and Mario.
I think Destructoid has the best review of the game so far. It points out the problems that other reviewers have mentioned, but still keeps in mind that the good outweighs the bad.

I think this game is pretty bad. It controls bad, and has really bad level design. So whats the point in playing a platformer if those 2 suck. There are some sweet ideas and its a pretty game but it deserves the bad reviews
