I've had this game for a couple of days not and it's a blast to play. I have it set for tilt control and it plays quite a bit like Mario Kart, at least for the car based sections. The controls are tight and responsive in both the tilt mode and joystick mode. I feel comfortable in recommending it. It's definitely worth $40.
Haven't tried the online MP yet... I did love seeing some of the SEGA franchises from the Saturn and Dreamcast days like Panzer Dragoon and Space Channel 5 making a comeback.
I played 3 player co-op World Tour today. One of us was on the Gamepad and two of us were on the screen and it played really well. The Afterburner and Skies Of Arcadia courses have tons of things going on and there were absolutely no framerate issues at all.
Seriously, this will be the best racer on the system for a LONG time.

I'm 99% sure I will buy this after reading so many positive comments in the Miiverse (and on here). I'm a huge Mario Kart fan (less so of the MK:Wii item overload garbage), and it seems like Sonic gets it right. I laughed after one comment I read in Miiverse; it went something like "I'm not a man who is known to exaggerate. I'm a fan of racing games, and Sonic is the best racing game I've ever played!"
My only hesitation is waiting for a patch for the "boost problem", but I'm afraid I could be waiting a while - mostly because the WiiU is so new, and I don't have confidence in Nintendo to have a proper procedure in place for game patches.
The first SEGA Racing was my all-time favorite racer on the Wii, so I was very eager to take Transformed for a spin! I've played through a TON of this game on the PS3, so here are my impressions after playing it all week:
Excellent kart racer with insane tracks and ridiculous speed and challenge. This game will truly test your racing and drifting skills, if you tackle the career mode.
The career mode has two parts: world tour and grand prix races. World tour has you doing a combination of normal races, challenges involving drifting, boosts, or flying through rings. Clearing each stage will award you a star. Clear it on each difficulty level to get more stars. You then use these stars to advance the way to the next chapters and to unlock new characters. Then theres the grand prix mode which should be familiar to anyone whos played a racer before. Simply win the races to advance to the next one. Clear them all to unlock stages/characters.
Multiplayer is everywhere in this game. You can use split-screen in the career mode, time trials, online, and anywhere else. I definitely recommend trying the career mode with a friend. It helps having someone else to fight off the computer racers.
The tracks in this game are amazing and put Mario Kart to shame. Not only are these tracks so detailed and filled with dynamic hazards, but the entire track changes based on the lap! Not every track changes mid-race, though. The tracks really help make Transformed feel like a new type of kart racer and really raises the standards for this type of game.
Finally, the vehicle transformations. Transforming into different modes is great and really adds diversity to the game. The boat controls sometimes feel a little too loose, but overall feel great. (I replayed Hydro Thunder on the SEGA Dreamcast just a week ago to prepare for SEGA Racing Transformed. The controls are much looser in SEGA Racing Transformed, but not loose enough that they feel broken.)
I strongly recommend SEGA Racing Transformed to any racing fan out there. Whether you like kart racers or not, you owe it to yourself to try this game out!
Seems like a solid kart racer. It's really cool to be able to play two player without split screen. P1 with the gamepad gets the gamepad screen, P2 gets the full TV screen. More than 2 players will split the screen for the non-gamepad players. Frame rate seemed rock solid with the simultaneous dual displays.
There are a few parts that need patched (like boost challanges, the first battle level, and how find the chao freezes the system), but this really is a fun game. Would love to play online with more people.
By the way, does anyone have a list of the unlockables?? I can't find any, though mostly want I wanted was Eggman, and I think I've found that on another stie.

For additional characters, I'd like to see some more Sonic characters. Is saw someone mention Fang (or Nack). I wouldn't mind to see him myself.
Otherwise, I'd vote for Toe Jam and Earl all the way.

@Joshers744 - Yeah, Fang the Sniper would be a nice addition. He even has his own vehicle already.

I think it's pretty awesome that they are letting us vote for the new DLC characters. Also, this game might just be the game that finally beats out Mario Kart as my favorite racing game. It really is fantastic!!
