Now, I always love to be surprised by sequels, especially when it comes to Nintendo. And even more when it comes to The Legend Of Zelda. So naturally, I don't find myself begging for certain features, but this time it's an exception. Remember when Hyrule Historia was released? The official timeline was revealed, leaving little to the imagination when it comes to theorizing about the timeline. I don't know if too many other people remember back in the 90s, when you had to come up with it on your own. So many people were trying to piece the games together, myself included. And that's something I miss dearly . A little later in life, Nintendo starting releasing subtle hints, and eventually revealed that yes, there was an official timeline. I loved this even more. It felt awesome to know that when I was trying to figure it out, I was always one step closer to being wrong, or right. That's where the problem comes in. I might have thought that, when I was younger, knowing the actual timeline would be the greatest thing ever, especially if I figured it out myself. So, when Hyrule Historia comes along, it's finally revealed, and nothing feels better than knowing how close you actually were. But that didn't last long. I no longer had to theorize or anything like that, it was all in front of me. I should get to the pint here. With the release of A Link Between Worlds, it was kinda obvious where it would be placed in the timeline, and then it was actually announced by Nintendo exactly where it would be, you know, in case you were dumb enough to not know. (No offense.) The thing is, with Zelda U coming up, the one thing I ask for, is that they mix it up a little. Don't actually tell where it is in the timeline, and make it as confusing as possible for the theorists. Take things from different games, different timelines even, and put them together, no matter how little sense it would make. I may be alone on this, but I would absolutely love this. I don't know if everyone will get exactly what I'm trying to say, or if anyone will even care, but if you do please share your thoughts. I would love to know what other people think of the matter
Hyrule Historia timeline is garbage. It's not even a time line with its unresolvable branching realities. You're better off with your own timeline theories that actually have one beginning and ONE END. That's the definition of a timeline. Don't throw away your own thoughts for that books bunk timeline
Edit: Hyrule Historia is a great book. But that timeline should be disowned by the fans that cared about creatively approaching a Zelda timeline before that book came out.
@WiiULoveGBA It doesn't matter what you, I or anyone says. This is the Timeline that Nintendo officially goes by. Like it or not, it's here to stay. Deal with it.
Actually, Nintendo could release a game that somehow changes past events and therefore changes the timeline.

@Guitardude7 Personally I don't believe that Nintendo had any real timeline for most of the IP's history. If they want to start one now by throwing all past games at a wall so they can start saying "this is where our new game fits" that's good for them i dont care about thier money making. The idea of a time line was an invention of the fanbase before Nintendo acted on it and sold a bunch of books. I simply support what the fan base creatively did before it and for some of them continue to do. Nintendo will promote its games how it will and I will play them and find the intelligence behind much better timelines to be fascinating no approval needed.
There isn't a timeline...in case you forgotten, Nintendo just made one up just to shut everyone up. lol
(and then everyone complains more. xD)
Regardless of its intention, an official timeline has been released by Nintendo and we all have to deal with it.

^^^ This.
It's the official timeline, hands down. Whether the fans are willing to accept it or not will NEVER change that fact. And yes, while it does have branching alternate realities, it's still a time line (with branches).

Per Nintendo, officially there was no timeline, though fans didn't accept that either. Nintendo's officiality on the subject is tenuous at best with long time theorists which is why SOME fans feel rather unintimidated by Nintendo's convenient timeline here.
As it's all utterly imperfect no one should feel disappointed or rather feel the need to lose ownership of their own past ideas of the Legend of Zelda. That's all.
Apparently some people care more about the timeline than the fun they get from the game themselves. I have a friend who brags that he knows the Hyrule History timeline by heart, but he has no idea what countries fought during World War II.
The thing is that fans made timelines in the past and since Nintendo did not make anything official, then no one was wrong. Now, with the official timeline, Nintendo is telling tons of fans that they were wrong and they don't like it, lol.
The timeline doesn't even bother me. It's fun to connect the games to one another, sure, but it's not of major importance.
I really enjoy those moments when you're like "that's a reference to X game!", but that's about it. The Zelda games are fine on their own as stand-alone adventures.
I'd be interested in seeing a game that unites the timeline back into one, but I can't see that happening any time soon. I think it'd be more likely for Nintendo to continue on their official timeline for a while and then one day say "okay, we're rebooting the timeline. We're starting fresh over here".

That doesn't necessarily make the fans right though. I've seen cases of fans denying a book's existence for example because it didn't fit their needs and desires for the book series. Fans sometimes get a little TOO fanatic in my opinion.

Eh, I wouldn't worry too much. The next Zelda game will be harder to place timeline wise simply due to it not being a direct sequel. I mean, that's the only reason people found it easy to place A Link Between Worlds in the timeline, because it's pretty much a direct sequel to the original Link to the Past and hence had to come in the same timeline a hundred or so years later.
I honestly have never followed the timeline. The games are great without it and it really doesnt add anything to the story imo.
Besides, this is how I feel anyway. The timeline was a fun thing to read, but it doesn't change anything in the games themselves.
This is why I like the timeline, actually. I love reading lore and backgrounds for stuff like this, and all the better for not actually affecting the games themselves. It's just some geeky stuff for fans if they want to look into it. No need to bog down the general audience with complicated timelines.
