Topic: Some Game Store Information About Nintendo Wii U & Mario Kart 8...

I went into game store today and was asking about Watch Dogs and somehow we got talking about Mario Kart 8. My friend was with me and was asking how much in store credit he would get if he sold his Nintendo Wii U in store (£90?? - crazy). Anyway, the guy from game said that Nintendo are not too happy with the Wii U's success rate and if the new Mario Kart doesn't sell and make some money that Nintendo are going to cancel / drop the Wii U. Apparently Nintendo already have another console planned? What do you guy think of this??

thank you.

It's almost a given that Nintendo has a new system in the pipeline (they often start working on the next system after the last one was released), but I'm certain it's some years away and is more likely going to succeed the Wii U rather than replace it.

I just thought this was interesting that they are telling people this kinda of stuff. Makes me feel like not buying anything in store any more.

I have seen plenty of Game Store Employees lie to try to make bigger sales. Once I had an interview at GameStop and the Manager asked me how I would see a console to someone that wanted Just Dance. I started to talk about the Wii and 4 controllers, he told me to try to push the Xbox more because I guess there are some people that are heavily invested in both Microsoft and GameStop... Don't know if that is true but the Manager wanting me to push Xbox over Wii for Just Dance was a little ridiculous, in my opinion

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

GameStop has always been biased. Game isn't really much better. Nintendo wouldn't drop the Wii U before launching Zelda U and seeing how it fares. Less than 4 years woukd be suicide.

I love how as I go to the Wii U forums of this site, 5 of these threads are about the Wii U failing, on the 1st page alone.

It's amazing how these employees pulls "facts" from their a**es.

when I went into my local gamestop 3 months ago to buy a Wii U, the clerk tried to sell me an Xbone instead, he also went the route of saying that Ninty where about to discontinue the U wtf?
I ended up leaving the store with another customer, who was also there to buy a Wii U, and going to a different store a couple of blocks away and buying our consoles there.

I'm done with gamestop, not just because of this, but their prices are beyond ridiculous, the U where almost 50% more expensive than where i bought it (still don't get that) and most of their used (Wii U) games cost more than i can find a new retail copy for elsewhere. (this is in Denmark don't know if it's the same in other countries, actually curious to know if it is.)

The Wii U will run its course in this generation just as the Gamecube did. Nintendo will not cancel the Wii U. First off, the 3DS is floating the company. Let's say that Nintendo did cancel the Wii U. How many of their fanbase would be pissed that they invested money into a extremely shortlived product? I seriously doubt that Nintendo would alienate all those people.

Seeing Nintendo are having enough trouble getting HD games out for the Wii U, I hardly see how bringing a new, more complex system out would help the problem. Plus 6 million core fanbase would not be amused. Nintendo understand that there are no quick fixes to be made here, and are going to have to suffer a bit more pain to get the user base up to an acceptable, if not competition destroying level.

The reason they want you to buy an Xbone or PS4 is A. They get commission for it, or B. They are fan boy invested in their chosen system and by getting you to buy one will help their side to 'win'. By their console winning, you justify their own purchase and in turn their reason to exist. I still think Microsoft isn't doing enough for their console, and we could still see the Wii U outsell it. The Xbone is too similar but just not as good as the PS4 in every respect, whereas at least the Wii U has unique games and a control system as a 2nd option console. After all the forum baiting, I would imagine several Xbox One owners suffering buyers remorse in fear they may not 'win' and could actually 'lose' (if you really can just do either because the console you like has sold X amount).

If people only enjoyed the console they bought for the games and experiences they had on it....

Let's forget for one minute that it would be almost suicidal for Nintendo to not try to get back as much money in software sales from Wii U as they possibly could, especially when they have so many games currently in development. Nobody in GAME would be close to knowing anything like that, not even the most senior executive would be privy to any such information. It's not like MK64 or MK:DD suddenly turned N64 and and GC into permanent fixtures at the top of the hardware charts so Nintendo can only be hoping for decent sales of MK and a nice boost to overall sales.

GAME employees are generally clueless about most gaming related things in my local stores, especially Nintendo. They get occasional bits of training on new launches but it's normally just so they can process new transactions or find the right barcode for pre-orders. My guess is that the employee was just another armchair CEO who thinks he knows what Nintendo will do next or just thinking he was helping for some other reason.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

He is a Game employee who clearly has no idea what Nintendo are planning.

I used to work at Gamestop, we never were given this information, nor were the higher ups. Absolutely no one knows what Nintendo plans on doing but they saw first hand what happened to SEGA in the hardware business; SEGA killed themselves by not supporting hardware through it's lifeline, so they didn't maximize their hardware or software sales. Long story short the dude is talking out his behind and you need to shop somewhere that they'll respect your gaming tastes.
