Topic: So, where are the animated Pikmin shorts?

In March of this year, Miyamoto announced that a collection of animated shorts featuring Pikmin (made in partnership by Japanese animation studio Toho Cinemas) were in the works and set to be broadcasted on the 3DS's Nintendo Video app shortly before Pikmin 3's release. He also added that if the videos were popular enough, they'd be expanded into a full series. The original article is posted below.

Well, Pikmin 3's been out for several weeks, and no word has been spoken of the project since the initial announcement...

So...nobody knows? I hope they didn't get cancelled, because the possibility of a full Pikmin animated series would be awesome. Actually, if that did happen it'd be the first Nintendo-centered continual show in quite some time (not counting Pokemon of course).

Well I emailed Nintendo a detailed question about this, so we'll see what they say.

So here's the email reply I got. Pretty much what I expected but rather disheartening nonetheless.

"Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I realize you reached out to us in the hopes of getting a firm, solid answer to your question. Unfortunately, we don't have any information about the animated Pikmin shorts you mentioned for this region. I am familiar with the media article that first mentioned this, but such videos were never announced for the Americas, and I am unsure if these videos are currently available in Japan. I realize this isn't what you were hoping to hear, and I apologize for being unable to provide you with the kind of answers you were looking for. I do want to assure you that your feedback and desire to see such videos, on the Nintendo 3DS in this region, will be added to our records and made available for other departments at the company to use as they see fit."

Man, I watched the Kid Icarus animes again (on YouTube) and remembered that the evil carrots remind me of Pikmin, which in turn reminded me of the Pikmin shorts...

When I read the titles, I thought that there were going to be Pikmin 3 Short Pants. I would definitively wear that everywhere. Church, weddings, private parties, funerals.

Betting they were the online videos of Olimar connected to the Secret Memos.

No, there was a clip shown to a press person depicting Olimar chopping up what first appears to be Pikmin but ends up just being carrots. And Miyamoto mentioned the possibility of the shorts expanding into a full series if they are popular enough. So the secret memo videos are definitely not related whatsoever.
