Now I have to admit, while I am excited for the two new titles, like most of you I also shrugged my shoulders since they are practically obligatory and we all knew they were in the works anyway. But this also got me thinking. If they DIDN'T announce said games either in the last ND or at E3, I bet there would be more then a few complaints about their absence. I guess it's one of those "you don't know what you have until it's gone" moments. It's like you think you don't need/want Mario, but the second he isn't there, you're sad he's gone.

I agree with you, while it's not that surprising, it is certainly nice to know that 3D Mario and Mario Kart is still around

What?! I'm surprised. I didn't hear a single word about that. I'll be keeping my eye out on the Mario game, in case it's more like 64 or Sunshine, but I'm guessing Mario Kart U means no Double Dash HD.
It was inevitable that sooner or later (more likely sooner) that we'd get a new 3D Mario and Mario Kart game for Wii U, so it was never going to surprise anyone.
Nevertheless, it's great news just to know it's coming soon, as I'm really interested to see how both these series progress with the upgraded hardware... especially the 3D Mario game because they set the bar so high with the Galaxy games.
Yes, all rational people knew they were most likely in development. But this is the internet. A lot of people were complaining that they'd heard no news of those titles since the Wii U's (still recent) launch and its those same people who have acted like its a big story. Honestly, I wonder how they'd have coped when they had to wait (at best) for a monthly magazine for their gaming information.
The sad fact is that the internet breeds discontent and anxiety which can quickly be displaced by a "good news" story. That in turn will be hyberbolised for a short time before lapsing back into discontent.

Please let it be more inspired than the 3DS games. Especially Kart since if it it isn't I'll just get the by that point cheaper Sonic Transformed Racing thing.
Its good to know for sure that they are coming, but we were all pretty certain anyway. It won't be until E3 that we get the whole "ZOMFG THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING!!!!111!!!" type of feeling going on when we see gameplay and stuff.

The 3D Mario game obviously has more intrigue because it could potentially be a platformer of the likes we've never seen. What will the theme be? What unique game-play elements will be introduced? And the fact that it will be playable at E3 likely means we'll see it by Christmas. For me, that breeds anticipation. Not to knock Mario Kart, but we basically know what it will be. And it has been five years since the last one, so it would have been a surprise if it hadn't been announced soon. Still, I'm happy I'll have it soon.
Sure its expected and kinda repetitive, but Nintendo is like the only company that can make games like Pokemon and Mario Kart feel fresh every time despite being the same gameplay every time.

This. If they're better than the 3DS ones , I'll probably buy them both.

Personally, I'm worried about whether Mario Kart U can live up to Mario Kart 7 track wise. After all, some of the best levels like Airship Fortress and Waluigi Pinball were already brought back in the 3DS title...
I played the Sonic racing game for a few hours and found it rather boring.
The only reason I didn't buy it myself at launch is because I knew a Mario Kart would be coming in the pretty near future, so I already like this new Mario Kart game for the fact that it saved me from buying a pretty crappy game.
I'm sorta indifferent at this point. Mario Kart is nothing I'm excited about unless they do something really big to the series, especially since this Sonic game is the most fun I've had with a racing title since Diddy Kong Racing. Nintendo needs to take some inspiration from Sega this time.
As for Mario... Well, I know nothing about it and have so many Mario games that I don't care until Nintendo gives me a reason to care. He's been in space, it's gonna be hard to top that. Unless they do Super Mario Dimensions, where he travels through different dimensions with different physics and game mechanics, maybe even mix up the gameplay. But I suppose E3 will give Nintendo a chance to wow me.

Well, I think it would have been a surprise if we hadn't gotten it.
