I think they're in a much better position than before. I still don't know if it's enough, but this e3 they did the best they could have possibly done. Certainly changed my position on the wii u. I don't even think it's the pii u anymore. In fact, out of all the games, I'm planning on buying DKCRTF for the $20 discount.

I think Smash Bros will do well. Zelda would too, but I think that's a 2015 game. Amiibo? Depends what it's used for other than Smash Bros and Mario Kart.

see i think parents will buy amiibo with out realizing it does anything at all. thats goint to be the beauty of amiibo. as long as the put them in wallmart/target/toys r us/wallgreens/k mart and anywhere else besides game store they will sell like hot cakes covered in money. at least the mario franchise will.

I think it will be better than last year but nobody should be expecting Wii Us to be flying off shelves.

Disagree. Wii U is selling extremely well in the Vancouver area. The MK8 bundle are all sold out in major retailers. I don't know about other regions though.

They said sales quadrupled in the US, I believe. And yeah, how can you say the machine is in trouble...they have about 89 games that they announced (ok, I'm exaggerating, but cmon). Tons of games are coming.

Atari 2600, Commodore 64/128, Sega Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, PC, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Wii, PSP, DSi, PS3, 3DSXL, WiiU

Don't mean to intrude on the gamer thread but after 3 pages of - what does Wii U have to offer this holiday - not a single person has mentioned the game that "may" help lure Wii owners, and that's Sports Club releasing in July.

I know the general consensus is that the causal isn't coming back but I have 3 family members who live a ways apart who bought Wii for Sports and Sports Resort who might buy Wii U for Sports Club just to play online with each other. The Wii U has games for everyone, I think its more up to marketing at this point. A Sports Club bundle would help. And a SSB bundle. And just advertising in general. MK8 shows they can advertise, they need to keep it up between now and then.

And Bayonetta 2 will sell better than W101 b/c of the obvious that nobody mentioned - Bayoenta was well received - though the PS3 port was sloppy the game was still liked. W101 was a new IP, those don't always do well. B2 w/ B1 will crush W101 sales.

So Wii U has games for everyone - Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 1 + 2 for action fans, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Lego Batman 3 for kids, Sports Club Online (maybe its not to late for Nintnedo to add "Online" to the title) and Just Dance 2015 for families. And SSB for everyone.

I'm not a huge believer in Captain Toad but I think its a marketable pillar in a CT, Yoshi, Kirby ad, even though Kirby and Yoshi are still a ways away, but they are marketable characters.

But as someone else did say, SSB really NEEDS to be out early Dec the latest. It's the Ace pitcher, teams look much different w/ and w/o the Ace.

Obviously FPS and sports fans are excluded from the above, but I still think Wii U can sell well enough if marketed right, enough games are there.

And I expect a surprise announcement in a late Aug/early Sept ND. Either another price drop or they finally unleash a 2nd Gamepad. They'll need another ND for the SSB date and amiibo pricing so I'm hoping they're saving something big as well.

So on the notion that Nintendo won E3 this year, it sort of dawned on me that with the expectation of Smash Bros its line up is pretty niche. Also the next gen consoles at launch sold off the back of the usually suspects of Asscreed, Battlefield, sports, and Call of Duty.

Smash Brother is going to do well, but i'm unsure how big Ambiio is going to be in the face of a now Skylanders and Disney Infinty running the Marvel train.

I hate to be a tad pessimistic but its a pretty Valid observation.

You're right! The Wii U is screwed, quickly abandon the ship, and sell your Wii Us. There's no way Nintendo is going to make it through this summer.

This kind of point has been hit on every time Nintendo try something different and can only be answered with time.

Other than that I disagree. Microsoft is the one in danger. They had a poor E3 and losing their spy camera doesn't mean the masses trust them enough to invest in the console. The chances XBO had have been extremely grazed because Microsoft still have DRM built inside the console. Shooters and realistic games might be what the majority want but Microsoft have been the worst at presenting variety. Sony have been showing more variety despite the fact their games don't sell. Microsoft need less realistic games and more Mario and LBP.

Just curious: Why does everyone seem to think Bayonetta 2 is going to "flop"?

Cause they make really good games that don't sell well. I expect their Xbox One game to flop as well.

@Sentinator

What exactly is Nintendo doing that's different with Amiibo?

Also so realistic

@shingi_70 What's the third game? Looks interesting.

The Wii U can do fine if promoted correctly. Like,y'know, advertising to the other part of your intended market rather than just kids, promoting your "hardcore" games rather than pushing them to the side (c'mon! You got Bayoneta! Flaunt it), and be aggressive in your marketing pushing the Wii U full force. You got Mario Kart, Nintendo. Now go in full force with Smash.

Just some random loser who loves a variety of things.

@GuSilverFlame
Those are Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One), Scalebound (Platinum's new IP, also Xbox One) and I'm pretty sure the last game is the Xbox One version of Happy Wars (which is also for 360 and PC I believe).

1.Sunset Overdrive
2. Scalebound

The third is Happy Wars which is a free to play online battle game. You are grouped onto two teams and have to try and try to capture areas. Its a fun little game that isn't Play to Win.

This changed into a console wars thread, now? Sad.

I want a WiiU bad...but...I want to hear more concrete information about a console FE game...SMTxFE, or whatever it's turned into, since they went dark on it. I know, Nintendo...it's what they do...

Why would it be screwed this holiday season? The holidays is the only thing that will keep it alive.

It had 90% of its 2013 sales in the holiday season but this year it actually has a few games that people want. Smash bundles and a holiday season push of Mario Kart will keep the Wii U selling in small but slightly improved numbers this year.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

Wii Sports Club, NSMBU, Mario 3dw, DKTF, MK8, Pikmin, Wii Party U, Game & Wario, NintendoLand.... I'd say that's a fair number of family titles. Smash Bros. can't be delayed until Feb.

There's not enough for families - the Wii U needs families.
Capt. Toad was a clever decision from Nintendo, since it was quick and easy to develop and gives them a family title for this holiday.
Bayonetta 2 is going to flop so hard, it would be funny if it wasn't so heartbreaking.
Only the most devout Zelda fans will be able to overlook Hyrule Warriors' innate crapness.
Smash Bros will only appeal to gamers and the few kids that remember Nintendo is still a thing. But it's out on 3DS first so interest of more casual gamers will not be in the Wii U version.

Conclusion - enough to just about satisfy current owners, with two great games to buy (maybe Devil's Third?). But due to little opinion of the brand, many gamers will still not buy the console. Not enough for families. I expect Nintendo will push Mario Kart and maybe a couple of legacy titles this Christmas - a campaign edvertising every Mario game available so far wouls suffice. But without the buzz of a product launch it won't hit as hard as expected.
Overall a C. Just about passes for gamers and families, but not what Nintendo needed. If Wii U still matters in 2015, that will be their year.

I don't think the Wii U is screwed this holiday season, E3 was very positive and plenty of variety on offer. Three big exclusive IPS due to hit in Bayonetta, SSB and Hyrule Warriors. Add to that Watchdogs and Sonic I'd say things are starting to look up.

I was thinking of getting one at some point until I found out about the advertising on the home screen.

(Its very unlikely I will give Sony the opportunity to rip me off again).
