Hmmm. A Captain America figure, or a Pikachu figure.
Why not both? With Wii U you can have both Disney Infinity and Amiibo. No other console gives you that option. When people have 1 of these toys to life games they are more likely willing to get another (evidence is only my observations). I am wondering if there will be a game that requires Amiibo
I was just saying for example if you had to pick one or the other. I imagine some will only be buying from the Infinity/ Skylanders line, or amiibo whenever it's released. These figures can really rack up some moolah.
If there was a game that requires amiibo, something like an rpg/ adventure game, that would be interesting.
in my opinion the charm of Amiibo is actually the fact that those toys are entirely optional and no game(announced so far) actually forces the player to buy them to be playable.
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

screwed? i think it's in better shape than it's ever been... several good games out already, several more on the way... although i'm not into the amiibo thing, there will be many that are, even buying them just to collect, aside from their use in games... i'm glad i have one!!
With Smash Bros. right at the door, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors literally preparing to break said door, and Captain Toad to entertain the puzzle fans, there's barely anything that can go wrong now. And around July, the first batch of indie kings will invade as well, continuing all the way up until November.
The only title I fear will flop hard is Yoshi's Woolly World - nice concept, but somehow failing to deliver much interesting stuff for quite a few Yoshi fans.

That's a good point. Something that intrigued me when amiibo was announced was how Nintendo was going to push them to gamers if they were entirely optional.
I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed Subspace Emissary in Brawl. It had potential in how to bring together all the characters. If they made a game with similar concepts using these figures, I would definitely be interested.
Not at all, they have a stronger lineup now with a large variety of games, and they've shown off some more interesting concepts now (Amiibo, Splatoon). I think the Wii U is fine now.
For the record my title was mostly hyperbole, I think the Wii U will do much better this year especially when it comes to families. I do t think it will due much in fave of the two HDer Twins but insuppsoe Nintendo has never really cared about that.

Disagree. The whool gameplay adds another layer of freshness into the franchise. YWW is going to be fun and it will sell well. Must certainly not MK8 well but it will still be a success. Not to mention the level of cuteness it possesses will attract a lot of casual gamers (kids and wives).
Nintendo is probably going to make me spend close to $300 this holiday season. You win Nintendo.
There's not enough for families - the Wii U needs families.
Capt. Toad was a clever decision from Nintendo, since it was quick and easy to develop and gives them a family title for this holiday.
Bayonetta 2 is going to flop so hard, it would be funny if it wasn't so heartbreaking.
Only the most devout Zelda fans will be able to overlook Hyrule Warriors' innate crapness.
Smash Bros will only appeal to gamers and the few kids that remember Nintendo is still a thing. But it's out on 3DS first so interest of more casual gamers will not be in the Wii U version.
Conclusion - enough to just about satisfy current owners, with two great games to buy (maybe Devil's Third?). But due to little opinion of the brand, many gamers will still not buy the console. Not enough for families. I expect Nintendo will push Mario Kart and maybe a couple of legacy titles this Christmas - a campaign edvertising every Mario game available so far wouls suffice. But without the buzz of a product launch it won't hit as hard as expected.
Overall a C. Just about passes for gamers and families, but not what Nintendo needed. If Wii U still matters in 2015, that will be their year.
I'm going to have to disagree with your analysis almost entirely.
Captain Toad will do great, yes, but more because of people that had 3D World and loved those levels.
Bayonetta will actually do alright for a 3rd party on a Nintendo console with less than 7 million owners. I can't see it breaking 1 mil, but it really doesn't have to. It's there to be another M-rated exclusive. Not to be a massive system seller. It just adds to the list.
Only most of the Zelda fans and the majority of Dynasty Warrior fans. The game is a love letter to the Zelda fanbase. Just because you can't see past the hack-and-slash repetitive gameplay doesn't mean the rest of us can't.
Smash Brothers has only ever gotten bigger and bigger with each iteration. It's going to absolutely kill in sales and it's gonna be a massive system seller. Smash Wii U is the killer app for this Holiday season, and believe it or not, a lot of people won't be satisfied with just the 3DS version. I know tons of people that, before E3, they were pretty much convinced they were just going to skip the Wii U and go for the PS4 while just getting Smash on 3DS, but now they're all excited for the Wii U and Smash controllers. You SERIOUSLY underestimate the sheer size and power of the Smash Community.
My conclusion? This will be the Holiday season that marks the beginning of an insanely good year for the Wii U. The games that come before Smash are there for the sake of adding more titles to the list and appeasing current owners, but Smash is going to absolutely kill it.
Just curious: Why does everyone seem to think Bayonetta 2 is going to "flop"?
Because of Wonderful 101's tragic lack of sales I assume. I almost understand why because that still makes me sad.
But I do believe as long as Nintendo actually advertises it that 2 games in one where the first games sold over a million will certainly do way better at least.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Because most Platinum games flop including Bayonetta 1 and W101 (which was an exclusive Wii U title most people ignored).

Would Wonderful 101 have done better without Ubisoft's ports being on the system ? (I think it would but we will never know).
“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”
Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
With Smash / Captain Toad / late Mario Kart 8 buyers and Amiibo, I think Wii U will be fine. Bayonetta 2 might not sell extremely well for the console but its something that reels in more mature players by proving that they can have a varied experience on the console. Bayonetta 2 is one of the titles I am most excited for in the "holiday season" time period.
I think the Wii U's hardware and software sales will definitely do better than last year, but by how much remains to be seen obviously.
EDIT: I forgot about the awesome controllers announced by Nintendo- I think people underestimate exactly how much improvements like these can drive sales, especially with core fans of various genres or games; notably, Smash Bros.

Wii U Wishlist: Bayonetta 2, Hy...
Just curious: Why does everyone seem to think Bayonetta 2 is going to "flop"?
-The audience for the game doesn't usually buy Nintendo hardware and has shown that they aren't interested in Nintendo's current gen console
-P* titles dont sell well
-Nintendo isnt going to put a huge marketing push behind a title that isn't one of their big franchises
-Its a Wii u game
Packaging Bayo 1 with it will help but Nintendo will most likely take a loss on the game for the sake of filling in their software lineup.
