So on the notion that Nintendo won E3 this year, it sort of dawned on me that with the expectation of Smash Bros its line up is pretty niche. Also the next gen consoles at launch sold off the back of the usually suspects of Asscreed, Battlefield, sports, and Call of Duty.

Smash Brother is going to do well, but i'm unsure how big Ambiio is going to be in the face of a now Skylanders and Disney Infinty running the Marvel train.

I hate to be a tad pessimistic but its a pretty Valid observation.

I think the Wii U isn't screwed this holiday season. Not with MK8 out and Smash Bros coming. Also with the announcements that they made at E3.

I think Mario Kart is decent proof that Nintendo can wait 3 months to release anything and immediately get momentum so I doubt it.

Hmmm. A Captain America figure, or a Pikachu figure.

Hyrule Warriors looks promising. Some good releases are coming.

Not at all. Mario Kart is selling pretty good and it's also a really good game which alone will lost for months and years, so I don't know why they would be royally screwed.

Super Smash Bros. 4 WiiU will do well (I think the NFC figures will flop though)

Hyrule Warriors will do well in Japan (might do well because it's Zelda over here).

Bayonetta 2 won't do well.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will most likely sell decent due to being Mario.

Mario Party 10 will probably do decently.

Sonic Boom might sell decently depending on how well received the show is.

I don't think the WiiU us royally screwed, but I don't think it'll outdo any of the other systems.

Sorry but Captain Toad arrives during Holidays to "save" the Wii U with his awesomeness.

Oh yeah, and other nearly as awesome games as Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 1 and 2.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

I wouldn't call it niche, I'd actually argue it's broader.

A couple of Beat'em ups, An Action-Adventure Platformer, a Fighter, and a Puzzle game for 2014. 3rd Person Shooter/Hack n' Slash, 3rd Person Team shooter, Action RPG, 2D Platformer, User generated content creator, Dogfighter, Action-Adventure, Tower Defense, and I think there is more for 2015

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Are you saying Captain Toad is going to be a Mario game?

Not at all. It's obviously a puzzle game.

I'm saying I think it'll do well due to being part of/recognized from the Mario franchise.

To be fair, it got good reception from the very few levels that it had in 3D World. Not to mention that it's the only game it's appeared on.

But I agree, it got good exposure, and the puzzle gameplay is also nice.

It's kinda weird that a 3D World spinoff where you slowly walk around a level as a Toad is more interesting than every Mario platformer of the past 3-4 years.

though more interesting and better are not necessarily the same thing

Why not both? With Wii U you can have both Disney Infinity and Amiibo. No other console gives you that option. When people have 1 of these toys to life games they are more likely willing to get another (evidence is only my observations). I am wondering if there will be a game that requires Amiibo

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

This title is for 2015, AFAIK. The 2 major Holiday titles this year is SSB and Captain Toad.

Smash will help the Wii U do just fine this holiday season, if Nintendo market amiibo properly they will be dancing all the way to the bank.

Edit: And Captain Toad is that safe choice that parents will buy without hesitation so I can see that doing okay as well.

I will not be surprised if Nintendo also prepares some eShop games, from their studios and whatever indies have in store for holidays too. It is not like they announced Pushmo World months in advance.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

There's not enough for families - the Wii U needs families.
Capt. Toad was a clever decision from Nintendo, since it was quick and easy to develop and gives them a family title for this holiday.
Bayonetta 2 is going to flop so hard, it would be funny if it wasn't so heartbreaking.
Only the most devout Zelda fans will be able to overlook Hyrule Warriors' innate crapness.
Smash Bros will only appeal to gamers and the few kids that remember Nintendo is still a thing. But it's out on 3DS first so interest of more casual gamers will not be in the Wii U version.

Conclusion - enough to just about satisfy current owners, with two great games to buy (maybe Devil's Third?). But due to little opinion of the brand, many gamers will still not buy the console. Not enough for families. I expect Nintendo will push Mario Kart and maybe a couple of legacy titles this Christmas - a campaign edvertising every Mario game available so far wouls suffice. But without the buzz of a product launch it won't hit as hard as expected.
Overall a C. Just about passes for gamers and families, but not what Nintendo needed. If Wii U still matters in 2015, that will be their year.

I was just saying for example if you had to pick one or the other. I imagine some will only be buying from the Infinity/ Skylanders line, or amiibo whenever it's released. These figures can really rack up some moolah.

If there was a game that requires amiibo, something like an rpg/ adventure game, that would be interesting.
