Topic: So it looks like WiiU has had it's fill of Mario - How do you feel?

I can only guess, but with Reggie starting the Digital Event by announcing that they will start pushing NX messaging next year, that there will be no more major Mario Announcements of any kind for Wii U. No surprise 3D Mario adventure, no Gamecube Remasters. How do you feel if Mario Maker and Mario Tennis (and Mario and Sonic to get technical) are the final Mario for WiiU generation?

Only Mario games worth having on the Wii U are Mario Maker and 3D World, so...meh, don't care. I got other great games. lol

Well even if that is precisely what happens. That the NX is a replacement for the Wii U, it launches next year and the games announced for Wii U thus far are the last games the Wii U gets? Not getting another Mario wouldn't be the thing that I would find disappointing. If that was the case I'd be more annoyed about the fact that I'd have to buy another new piece of hardware to play Metroid, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario etc.

I'm looking forward to a spiritual successor to Mario 64, released on its 20th anniversary next year.

Some people gave Nintendo a lot of grief for this E3 presentation. They went in with unreal expectations and many didn't realize that Nintendo had already started moving its major teams over the NX until they watched the E3 presentation.

Mario team finished 3D World in 2013-- they have been working on the next Mario for two years and it's likely the centerpiece of the new hardware. Everyone should have known this E3 was going to be like this when Nintendo pulled Zelda like they did with Twilight Princess. Zelda will still come to WiiU as promised but it will almost certainly be demoed on NX next year to cement it as a launch title.

Nintendo is moving on and the nature of this is that WiiU is down to what's left-- and people either liked what was left ahead of E3 or they were simply lying to themselves about their satisfaction with the platform. The WiiU isn't changing-- the lineup isn't changing, there was never going to be a Metroid or new Mario for the console. Fans who expected big reveals just weren't paying attention to the business reality of the platform.

Well, there's not much else left for Nintendo to make that Mario normally appears in. There's only Strikers Soccer, Golf, and the 3D adventure. We've got pretty much everything else they normally throw at us.
Tbh, this years E3 seems to be the tell tale sign that Nintendo are repeating what they did with the Wii, and leave us with nothing substantial for the last 12 to 18 months before they bring out what ever their next console is.
Thing is, they could fill out the remaining time on the WiiU with Wii downloads, and loads of VC games. That would be an ideal sittuation while they're working on the games for the NeXt console. But as we all know, that ain't gonna happen.

It's very easy to say this all in hindsight.

Yes, we all know what you're "looking forward to". Something which far less likely than even Metroid coming to the Wii U

One of those rare times when we agree about something on these forums? Yup, I think it is. Anways, the way I see it before E3 there was pretty much nothing to go on other than some assumptions. Post E3 the writing isn't on the wall but we do have a a bit of bathroom graffiti. Personally I'm waiting for them to put up the neon lights before we start talking about it as if we know 100% what's happening

Mario is always one of the most important IP for me on a Nintendo system. I think the Wii U has had a great run of Mario games. Super Luigi U was such a good thing in the New series and Mario Maker looks splendid. 2D Mario is bigger for me than the 3D adventures. I did have some great co-op moments with 3D World which really impressed some of my non Nintendo friends of mine. Mario Kart 8 was the biggest MK game yet and looked as amazing as I hoped an HD MK would.

I guess at this point I'm looking forward to New hardware to see the next adventures but Mario on the Wii U was really some of the best Mario yet for me in more recent years and it's kind of too bad there probably won't be a longer run of Mario games for the console even though I realize Nintendo's checked most of the boxes when it comes to the variety per console

Whatever ends up happening in 2016/17 one things for sure. Mario Maker will be an endless supply of 2D Mario and the Wii U has been the most Marioed up console Nintendo has ever had. Even if it lacked a Galaxy tier Mario.

It's perfectly fine, I just really hope the NX has Wii U backwards compatibility so Nintendo can stop creating 2D Mario platformers (Super Mario Maker makes those completely obsolete).

I can see them port and/or expand Mario Maker to NX even if it isn't backwards compatible with Wii U. Call it Super Mario Maker 2 if you will.

It doesn't have it's fill. No blockbuster Mario titles (even though 3D World is fantastic). And it doesn't even have an HD remake.

Highly annoyed and disappointed if we don't get a fully 3D mario adventure such as a Galaxy 3.

How can they have an entire console generation with out one of their primary franchises (3D world and 3D land are a seperate Mario Franchise)?

Personally I have had enough of Mario for a very long time. Even just watching Mario Maker via the Treehouse irritated the living daylights out of me. There are other franchises that need some love before we even see another Mario game imo (F-Zero, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Punch Out, etc). A new open world adventure type game (excluding zelda 2016), a decent racing game or even a new ip as far as 3d platformers are concerned, will be very welcome.

We need variety. This E3 just reminded me once again why I can not only own a Nintendo console. Well Nintendo, Sony thanks you for my business.

I'm not prophesying the end of Nintendo here by any means but Nintendo needs to stop relying on their past success and boldly venture where they have never gone before. Splatoon was a step in the right direction. Yes, by all means, give us Mario, Zelda, etc but don't rely on them too much.

Annoyed. Mario 3D World is the worst mainline Mario game a console has had. It's nowhere near as fun or creative as the Galaxies, Sunshine, or 64.

Fun enough, but disappointing since it's the only one we'll be getting

Disappointed. This entire generation has been a singularity of rehashy linear platformers with generic Mushroom Kingdom (or in 3D World's case Mushroom Kingdom expy) settings. They're completely devoid of any fun, creativity, innovation, or soul, they're just cynical cash grabs. The Wii U really needed a unique game in the vein of Sunshine, or Galaxy, a large, open 3D platformer with a unique theme and gameplay mechanic that proves the Gamepad useful and defines the gameplay for a new generation. 3D World did not fulfill that purpose.

Agreed, for the most part. What sets Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy a part from 3D World is the exploration part. 3D World is more like a NSMB title but 3D. Sunshine and Galaxy were unique settings with new mechanics, and even 64 seemed more revolutionary than our only 3D offering on Wii U. It might sound like I'm wearing nostalgia goggles/biased but something really irks me knowing 3D World will be the only "main" game. It's a fun game, don't get me wrong. I just hope we do end up with at least one more because to me, Mario spin offs never take away from the joy I get from mainline Mario games. If not, oh well; hopefully NX launches with one as amazing as the 3 fore mentioned titles.
