It wouldn't surprise me if people just wait for the reviews and see which version is the best one. Then they buy the game for that hardware version. I guess this applies for consumers who have multiple systems, obviously. Sadly, Wii U versions of games are often the worst ones, or lack enough value to warrant a purchase over the others (the exception being Rayman Legends).

Another noteworthy thing: Nintendo has not been known for having good sports games since...possibly...ever. The Sega Genesis had the definitive sports versions in the 16-bit era, and it carried on with Sony, and possibly now with Microsoft. So the vast majority of 3rd party and ONLINE users have hardly had any history with a Nintendo console. Again, another black mark on Nintendo.
