People said the same thing about Yoshi's Woolly World being canned as it wasn't show but it's still on track. SMT X FE was just announced far too early.

The thing is, Goodfeel didn't introduce 3 other projects in the interim period following the announcement. Also, the initial announcement of Woolly World featured gameplay images and screenshots. And last, Woolly World got an announcement at E3 2014.
Since SMT x FE, Intelligent systems has announced and released Pushmo World, announced Codename: Steam, and announced FE 3DS. Atlus has announced a crapton of stuff, and has fallen under new ownership. We haven't heard a peep in 2 whole years, and the initial announcement was basically words and character art.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
I believe Intelligent Systems has the resources to be making 3 games considering they have their own building, they don't give buildings to small teams lol. as for SMT X FE, based on various interviews I believe it was still in the planning stages at the time of its announcement which explains why we haven't heard anything from them in 2 years.
I like SMT games. I love Fire Emblem games. I really think it would be best if they just released a Fire Emblem stand alone game for the Wii U. With yesterdays FE reveal, I was really hoping for a moment that it was a Wii U game.
I played SMT IV recently after just playing through FE:Awakening again, and I don't know how they would combine the two into something unique or new. The only way I would see it working is if the game played mostly like FE but with SMT monsters as the bad guys or something.
I don't know. I kind of like these games separate at this point.

Yet this is actually the intriguing part about it. I love SMT, I love FE and I certainly will get the new FE Day1 as well, but the thing is, I know what I am in for with those. On the one hand, that is a good thing, because I know that I will get something I'll enjoy, on the other hand, it is a bit "tedious", because the whole thing is not exactly an exciting proposition anymore. It's more about small changes and additions as well as new characters and stories. That is all good and well, but from time to time, something different is in order.
That's why I pretty excited for STEAM, at least now that I'm over my initial disappointment that it was no new Advance Wars
If they can't make it work, fine, they should just cancel it, or maybe re-vamp it into a new project, maybe a WiiU Fire Emblem game - surely some of the assets could be recycled, but this complete radio silence is really starting to get on my nerves. It was one of the games that really pushed to get a WiiU (not that it's not a worthwhile systme without, nevertheless ...), so they better not pull a Last Guardian on us here, esp. not with the limited release schedule as is.
Considering how diverse SMT is in terms of gameplay styles, I don't think there's much to worry about. Devil Survivor and Devil Summoner, despite having very similar names, are nothing alike.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
