I am definitely buying Twilight Princess day 1. I'm excited to play the most 'mature' (according to the internet) zelda game ever!!
Twilight Princess!! Let me party with you!!!
But Skyward Sword? Uhm, there are too many things I didn't like about that game. Although I guess I would be willing to forgive all of them, with the exception of the combat system. I want an actual, press button, swing sword combat system. Not the mini game battles we have to have every time we fight a bokoblin or whatever they're called.
If it's the same, then I'm going to give it a pass.

It's not perfect, it's quite far from being perfect imo, but Skyward Sword is already more or less the best it can be, getting rid or working around of any of its "flaws" (/the things it did different) would just take away from what many people liked about the game, because they were an integral part of it (things like the controls, the world's structure, the characters, how the enemies reacted to you, puzzles etc)

Couldn't have said it better.

Skyward Sword could be done on Wii U without motion controls.

The method you suggested could maybe work, but it still would take something away from it, when I think about playing Skyward Sword without the Wiimote, it almost pains me. Skyward Sword was the best game to showcase the possibilities of the Motion+, it was one of the best Zelda experiences I had because of that (it says a lot that I remember a lot more details from SS and OoT than from TP or WWHD). I'll never forget the challenging fights against Ghirahim that wouldn't be possible on a Gamepad. It was awesome! It was gaming history!

No! Why would you do that? That sounds really conservative. If you just get used to it, playing SS with Wiimote+ is an outstanding experience! The precise and challenging sword fights against Ghirahim (where you had to surprise him with unusual movement) are definitely in my top 5 gaming moments of my life.

I could just answer the same to you that I answered to @Bass_X0 and @maximo_jd. If you guys have a Wiimote+, just don't be so reluctant to learn something new and embrace it, it's just a different challenge and really rewarding. Reading how someone would want to replace something so extraordinary with simple button presses feels like a kick in the teeth. It feels as if you would suggest replacing the triforce with three rotten tomatoes, replacing the Master Sword with a banana and turning Link into a Goomba. Yes, the sword fighting techniqes are so vital for the Skyward Sword experience!

It really doesn't look bad at all on the Wii U. I have no idea why Nintendo would want to remake something that looks perfectly okay. Perhaps they could do it as a virtual console release, but a fully blown remake? Nah.

I would buy a VC release instantly! But the same goes for a HD remake (please with AA), I'm not 100% sure all the time but sometimes I'm convinced that SS is my favourite Zelda game, just ahead of OoT.

cookiex wrote:

I heard the Zelda NX remake isn't far behind.

That's a real possibility, just like TP on Wii.

Chandlero wrote:

Just render Skyward Sword in 1080p and you get a beautiful (looking) game.

That's true, you can find videos on youtube where they play it on emulator, in 1080p and with a lot of AA - it looks amazing!
But playing with the Wiimote+ on Dolphin is a pain in the... , because you have to constantly recalibrate it (it makes some boss battles impossible), which is not an issue on the Wii. So I'd advise against playing it on an emulator at all, they just don't accomplish to fully replicate the Wiimote+ functionality like Nintendo's hardware did.
I wish I still had the savegame from my Wii, then I would just buy Skyward Sword again and play SS's masterquest, which would probably look beautiful with the Wii U's own upscaling.

Playing Skyward Sword with button controls is like travelling to China but staying in the hotel and eating nothing there but KFC and McDonald's. That game's foundation is it's motion-based experience; by playing it with buttons, you kinda miss out on what makes most of the game unique.

I played the whole game standing in front of the TV. I was an experience I never felt before. And the game was very great in that way. Of course, there were a lot flaws but the Sword fighting wasn't one of them. Swinging the Wii Remote like a Sword and using the shield created some memorable fights!

I would love playing the game in 1080p again! But of course again with Wii Remote and standing in front of the TV!

@shani:
I did play Skyward Sword. And I didn't like it. I mean, I had fun with the game during certain parts. I loved the story. I loved Impa (one of my favorite Zelda characters). I loved how cute Zelda and Link's relationship was. I especially loved Groose. I loved the desert boat with the little captain and turning sand into water. I loved the Twilight Realm. and I loved the music.

But I didn't enjoy the combat system at all. I think motion controls are fine, and I enjoyed them with a lot of the puzzles, but when it comes to combat, I like to go in and feel like I'm in a life or death situation with several enemies, all wanting to kill me. I felt like SS instead makes it a mini game where one bokoblin comes at you stamping his little feet, while you have to guess when and how to swing. Take too long and the bokoblin swings at you. Get it right and you have to do it 1 or 2 more times. All while other bokoblin hang out in the background stamping their little feet.

Honestly, I've never ever felt anything wrong with how the game controlled. Quite the contrary, in fact. I think it brings a fresh breathe of new air into Zelda's combat system and I applaud Nintendo for what they did with the motion controls in combat as well as puzzles.

However, despite that, I dislike Skyward Sword for other reasons. The repeat of two bosses is uninspired and especially the Imprisoned gets frustrating really fast and made that Lightning Round a pain. I didn't like the lack of a connected overworld. I know, there's Skyloft but that's just such a bland kind of place. Only one big island and every other island doesn't have much personality going for them aside from the Pumpkin Island. Throwing pumpkins around never gets old. And what I hated and hated and hated again are the Silent Realms and that's for a rather subjective reason: I despise sneaking in videogames. I am more somebody who runs up to somebody and slashes him with my sword.

I don't need to see a Skyward Sword remake as the problems I have with the game cannot very easily be fixed with a mere remake. What would be sweet, though, is, if they do a remake, they'd give you the option of either using buttons for combat or use Motion Controls.

@GoldenGamer88: A big question that stems from a lot of the comments here is whether Twilight Princess HD will give you the option to use motion controls.

@Grumblevolcano: Yeah, that'd be interesting. But honestly, with TP, I've never found its motion controls very immersive, probably because Motion Controls were still in its early stages and Motion Plus helped give SS a sense of immersion and creativity. I'd be fine if TP HD doesn't have motion controls honestly.

@GoldenGamer88: Well it is a game originally for GC that got moved last minute to Wii just to help the launch lineup not be poor (you can tell by the mirroring of the entire game) which is another reason why I don't want Zelda U to come to NX.

That's not unrealistic, if that's what you're getting at. I would think real-world swordfights involve the opponents standing around, watching their opponent for movement and thinking of weaknesses and ways around their defenses before they strike. Its not always a full-on charge. True, bokoblins probably aren't that complex, but they're a slower enemy, after all.

Maybe the whole "no other enemy is attacking when they should be" is unrealistic, but this all usually happens in other Zelda games' sword fights, too, except they usually involve more circling around each other. But its' the usually the same thing, with both opponents holding their shields up a bunch and not striking, while other enemies just kinda move around without doing anything. Skyward Sword is no different.

I enjoy playing Nintendo games but I don't want to feel like I'm doing exercise every time I play a Nintendo Wii game.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I'm currently playing through Skyward Sword for the first time. The game is alright, but the controls really are finicky. There's really no way you can make it work with the gamepad without changing the identity of the game and how it plays. Also not a fan of how the world is built. It seems a lot more empty and smaller than Wind Waker despite basically just swapping the boat with a bird.

I'm not finished yet but so far I think Twilight Princess is the better Wii Zelda game (even though it's a Game Cube port)

I didn't have a problem with Twilight Princess with the Wii controls because it didn't really require anything special or effort, whereas Skyward Sword was convoluted. I remember one of the fishing parts in Twilight Princess made me want to throw my Wii out the window. It's been so long I forget what the situation was but I remember it being a total pain. I think it was near the beginning of the game in the starting village.

Utena-mobile

Oh, there's another problem I had with the game. When you're on the surface, just exploring the world, trying to get to the dungeons, everything has so many puzzles and specific paths you have to travel, it eventually feels like the overworld is playing just like the dungeons. but I like my zelda games to have a mix of dungeon puzzling/ and overworld exploring.
but this is just my opinion.

but on last note with the controls. They are NOT 1:1. And they were always going out of calibration. That's why the wiimotes had a button specifically to center the calibration. I don't think Nintendo will ever give this game a regular controller scheme, but it's in their best interest never to make a Zelda game with the only control scheme being motion controls.

I'm having deja vu to the time when I thought the Twilight Princess remake was a stupid fanboy wet dream.

TBH, if they did this with SS, people would actually pay for it.
