I feel a bit duped after buying this game on eBay. The listing described that it included the game disc and something I found out is called a portal of power but it didn't say that figures weren't included and that the game is unplayable without them. I don't know if the game is my kind of thing so I'll need to buy some characters to try it out. If it's not my thing, I'll be able to sell the whole set on without miffing anyone else.
Can anyone advise what the minimum is I need to do this please? I know nothing about the game, I tried doing some research online but couldn't come to any conclusions. I believe you need at least 2 figures but there appears to be dozens and dozens of characters of different types. I know what's going to happen without any advice, I'll probably keep buying random figures because they're of a type that's used later in the game and are no good for starting out with! So can I buy just any figures or do I need to go for specific ones? Is there anything else I need?
Thanks.

Well I had the wii version of the first skylanders and it included 2 characters if I remember correctly. I think you'll need to buy some figures of your own if you want to play.
But if I were you I'd just buy a better game than a franchise milked to death.

Yes, I think you need at least 2 characters to start with, can they be any characters at random or do they need to be of a particular type / family?
I'm not sure what a better game would be, I was going to try this one first.

@Deckie The characters can be any type. But some hidden places with chests are locked behind the type of character you have and the only way to enter them is by having the specific type of that character. But you can complete the game/story without doing the chest rooms or whatever they're called. (Ex: water, dark, grass, fire etc.)

Really? Wow what a money spinner for the developers! I assume there's nothing else I need to buy to start it. Thanks for the info and advice.

Fwiw, I think you can find them cheap used. I actually liked the game itself, but found using the figures a pain in the butt.

I did buy 9 used characters for £15 including some big ones that light up. The game and portal was £6 which seemed OK. I've played it once and maybe will again, after that I probably will sell it all on.
