Topic: Should Nintendo publish third party titles for its console (think Xseed or Feral Interactive)

Given the lack of games for the Wii U in general, and thus the lack of genres presented......do you think Nintendo should publish titles from third party developers who have no interest in bringing their titles to Nintendo platforms?

The best example would be Feral Interactive, who publishes games such as Tomb Raider 2013, Bioshock Infinite, DIRT 2, GRID, X-Com, Borderlands, Rayman titles, Lego games, etc. etc., to the OSX (Apple desktop operating system) for consumer use,.......even when the main publisher, be it 2K, Ubisoft, etc., has absolutely no interest in publishing it themselves. They do develop these titles internally at Feral at times, with a small team, but I would imagine it would be pretty fast once the originating developers hand over the source codes, Feral has 50 personnel total, yet they publish 5-6 AAA games a year on OSX.......

The negative prospect is that the games are released around 3-9 months (or sometimes more) after initial release, but at least it gives the user base variety and something to play.....also, your usually getting game of the year editions, etc., with all of the released DLC in one package.

Of course Nintendo would be competing against its own titles, but they would still be receiving cash for the third party published titles, it wouldn't be a money pit as long as they shifted a profit. Plus right now, they just need games in general.

Maybe... but only for certain games.... Maybe even a game like GTA V. Just try to get it on Wii U just to improve the image of the Wii U overall. "Like, the Wii U DID get GTA V, an extremely big game,". But like I said before... Rockstar are guys who shouldn't even be worried if GTA V on Wii U doesn't make a profit. They've made so much money from GTA V that putting GTA V on Wii U could be a awesome experiment to test the waters.
I rather Nintendo try to interesting and unique exclusives like Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third, though.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

instead I think they should offer 3rd Parties special deals to release a game on Wii U. Like Nintendo selects a few games where the publisher gets Nintendo's cut of the profit for that game. Or Nintendo could help develop GamePad features for 3rd Party games, so there is less funds the publisher has to pay and they get to work even closer with Nintendo to really learn the system and better ways to develop for it.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I think Rockstar just has absolutely no connections with Nintendo outside of a single DS and Wii title, it's not that they hate Kyoto, it's just that they wouldn't do anything unless Nintendo approached them.

But yeah, if Nintendo was like, hey Rockstar, here is the cash, give us the source codes and we will port and publish GTA V to the Wii U,........and you still get some royalties, they would probably say.......go ahead.

I kinda doubt most would bite unless Nintendo was offering wads of cash, it still takes time, personnel, money, etc, to make that Wii U version, which has a small user base to begin with........however, if Nintendo is like, here is the cash, we will port it ourselves with a small team, I do believe most would say yes.

I think your last bit is exactly why Nintendo wouldn't, it wants exclusives over anything else, but yeah, it might be good to bite the bullet and get some of the better third party titles over to its console regardless.

Or maybe they can buy franchises from companies don't care about.Like for example Ubisoft with ZombiU Ubisoft don't care for it anymore, maybe Nintendo should buy it make a sequel and say "Look Ubisoft messed up on this underrated franchise, but we bought it so we can show the game full potential". Maybe something like that i don't know.

It takes less resources to publish than develop. As long as the product is good, it would be Nintendo's better interest to let other studios do the heavy lifting.

it doesn't make sense for Nintendo to do that. Paying a lot of money for little payout. Publisher is still going to want their cut. Nintendo has to take people off their current games to put on 3rd Party games. Nintendo throwing money around to companies just so those companies can make more money and Nintendo can make less doesn't make any sense. They need to encourage publishers to support Wii U, rather than running themselves into the ground

Also your idea would stop developers from getting experience with the console still making it difficult for publishers to make games for the Wii U

You forgot that ZombiU didn't make a profit, therefore there won't be a sequel anytime soon. Even if Nintendo bought the franchise, they're not going to make it.

It sold 700,000 copies. It did make a profit. Ubisoft are just full of BS.

I can see either being true, Ubisoft said that about ZombiU a few years ago and since then it's been discounted and sold alot more copies (to the point it's the 10th best selling Wii U game and ahead of Donkey Kong & Monster Hunter) but generally most non-Ninty publsihers rely on the early sales to judge success so even if it is considered a success/made a profit now it's still a flop on that standard..

Ubisoft's expectations for ZombiU was prolly incredibly high and unreasonable.

I wish but it won't happen to that extent. Nintendo has already been publishing 3rd party titles just to fluff out the Wii U lineup to little success. Ninja Gaiden was published by Nintendo, as well as Lego City and the upcoming Devil's Third and of course Bayonetta. I for one would have a lot less to play if they weren't publishing these, but yeah I wish there were more.

Nintendo already does this on a limited level, just think about some of those Square games they've stuffed out in the recent and not so recent past and the upcoming Bayonetta. And then there are other companies they own a little bit of a share in they publish for to. I think they could do it a lot more to force those things onto their hardware, but the problem is publishing is one thing, doing the work to make it run on WiiU is another and I don't see them paying for that as well.
