Topic: Should Nintendo jump in the HD Remaster, Remake and Ports Craze?

So..... A good number of games coming to Xbox One are remakes and HD Remasters. New games are coming too and a good number of remakes and ports are coming to Xbox One and PS4. Heck, DmC HD and Devil May Cry 4 HD just got announced for the two platforms!!!

Now I know remakes, ports, and HD remasters are a slippery slope but MAN... I think Nintendo should just start letting what Grezzo did for Ocarina of Time 3D more often. Smaller studios remaking and porting classics and forgotten games from Nintendo's past to current gen.

I love brand new games and the Wii U/3DS has a bunch of new games. I'm just saying if the Xbox One and PS4 can keep getting ports without much crying then why can't the Wii U and 3DS follow that?

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I think the problem may be resources. Now that Nintendo is alone, without 3rd party support, whatever is spent on remakes is taken away from new titles, which the Wii U really needs.

Nailed it

Though people will come in here and claim remakes take no work whatsoever and banana pickers in southeast Japan can make the games without using any resources whatsoever

Why not just get smaller studios like Grezzo to make the games? No one can say the Wii U doesn't have new games.

Nintendo has Virtual console. I don't think they need to do remasters when they can just release the game on Virtual Console instead, it would probably be easier and cheaper. The only difference is that VC doesn't get as much coverage as a New Release but I remember Earthbound was a pretty big deal when it released for Wii U. So I would say they should keep up with VC and just make New Games

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I understand the benefits of VC. Its just the Xbox One and PS4 are getting so many ports and the amount of complaining is so small....

The Wii U is backward compatible with the past generation, while the other consoles aren't. HD remakes for Wii U would probably only make sense if it's GC games or earlier, or if the Wii version would benefit from the Gamepad.

Lol no the complaining is not small. It's small on this site because people here pretend those consoles don't exist. People are bashing FF X endlessly. There was a lot of complaining about GTA being full price. People complained about TLOU so much they lowered the price.

Besides, people on this site love to use those remasters as critiques of the other consoles. Take that away and those people will have to find something new to complain about.

Though I'd bet anything some of the people using remasters against the other consoles will be seen in this thread advocating for Nintendo remakes.

I don't only use this site... I've been on many sites about the ports and remakes the Xbox One and PS4 are getting and there's always a few complaints but they don't outnumber the people who support them and get excited. I think the Xbox One and PS4 are both worth owning. I just they if those two platforms can keep getting ports and remakes then the Wii U/ 3DS can, too.

It depends what kind of games they want to give the remaster treatment. GCN and Wii games? I'll pass. Now NES, SNES, and N64 games, all remade with new graphics? I'm on board.

Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

I think more people would be excited for a N64 remake than a N64 VC game but that's just my opinion.

I'd rather you join with the Sony/MS bashing party to criticize remakes, opposed to advocating Nintendo partake in the trend.

Though Nintendo isn't exactly new to remakes either. Asking them to ramp up their remaking effort to boost the library seems counterproductive.

I think they should do remakes as they would pad out the major droughts that third parties arn't likely to fill. Will they take away from Nintendo's resourses, both yes (only small teams would handle a remake, its not like the entire Galaxy team would remake Galaxy 1 and 2 lol) and no, Nintendo could pull a grezzo and let other companies handle a remake under their supervision. Remember the Wind Waker HD team made that remake in 6 months while they were working on ALBW, the starting stages of Zelda U, and quietly taking their time with Majora's Mask 3D, its obvious new titles are Nintendo's main gain although that doesn't mean we won't get our fair share of HD remasters/remakes this generation going into the next one.

No...only time they really do remakes is to experiment with new ideas and stuff. Majora's Mask is just being remade because, well...we want it. But still...we don't need ten bazillion remakes from Nintendo. lol

I'm not saying there should be a bunch of remakes but I wanna see a few more... Like maybe 2-4. Just to help with droughts and help out a maybe forgotten game. Heck, the Xbox One and PS4 has GTA V, Dark Souls 2, DmC, Devil May Cry 4, Tomb Raider, Metro Redux, and the list runs on. Why can't Nintendo do similar but at a lesser rate?

Hmm... I see... I like new games and love them. What's wrong with a few more remakes of forgotten classics, though? Like REALLY forgotten.

CAPCOM! Where is my HD remaster of ONIMUSHA?!!!! WHERE!! WHY NOT?!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111oneoneone

Oh sorry... wrong company.

With Nintendo... other than some N64 games, that sadly won't happen, I can't really see a game that could benefit from a remake. Nintendo should actually abuse the hell out of VC, but instead, they do... well, everything else.

All Wii games are available on the Wii U already, N64 games have already been remade for the 3DS, and there's not a ton of GameCube games that would sell well if remade, other than Sunshine which is already rumored as being in development as a remake.

You're making a comparison of PS3 games being made for the PS4 as if it would be the same for Wii games being made for the Wii U, when those games are already playable on the console.

If nintendo fans really don't care about graphics, what is the point in remaking Galaxy just to have a higher resolution?

AlexSays

AlexSays

If you're asking for 'forgotten' games, remaking them likely isn't financially feasible. Given Nintendo's financial situation, it doesn't make sense to pour money into the development and distribution of games that will have a small return, if any.

they tried with NPC games on the Wii and the sales were minimal.

Its not just graphics but more content! Who cares about a Wii game getting remade? I'm talking about older games! The Xbox and PS4 will keep getting ports from last gen. I have nothing against that because they are still getting new games. Heck, Square Enix is prolly bringing the KH remasters to PS4!
