hey now, if we're talking about men in skirt-like clothing, it doesn't get more manly than these guys:

also, don't forget the Romans, the Egyptians, the ancient Chinese, and other peoples typically had their males wearing non-pants around on a daily basis. some even had their men as pampered and makeup'd as their women. That doesn't make them any less 'manly' :/

i like where this is going :3

to be absolutely honest, though — I wouldn't mind it if Link was a girl. I'd like it more if the person (male, female, or otherwise) in the 'Zelda' position actually took some responsibility for their kingdom and saved it themselves, though; i think that would be more revolutionary to the series than switching around the gender of the main protagonist.

Yeah the whole "helpless monarch" gig is getting a bit old. Agree with you 100%

Gods, this thread is already a throwback to the 50's. This can't possibly end well.

It would be cool if it were all female.

As long as the next Zelda has a really deep story, I don't mind.

This actually sounds like an awesome beginning to a Zelda RTS. Link fails to appear to save the kingdom, Zelda has to save it herself. But, rather than face Ganon with only one Triforce she decides to use the Hylian army instead.

That would be a awesome spin off game, but not a good regular zelda game..

What does Zelda need an army for? Link's never needed one to save Hyrule/Termina/(insert place that needs saving here), so why should she hide behind one? :/

well, since you're rescuing a princess, it's better to be a man, because it is then like a prize to have a beautiful princess around after going through all that crap just to save her, so unless you want link to be a lesbian, then he should NOT be a girl. also, i know what you're thinking:
"well, if she cant be a lesbian, then why not make zelda a prince instead?"
that's an almost as horrid idea. if zelda were a man, then he would probably end up being an a-hole about it, because it's very likely to me it seems that zelda would have a lot of pride in his head, so if you ended up saving him, he'd probably say:
"took you long enough" or "ppssshhh! i let him kidnap me!" or "hey sexy lady!"
or something along the lines of those. plus, never have we seen a female protagonist save a male prince in a videogame(or at least, not that i know of). it's safer to just stick with a damsel in distress, therefor with a male protagonist.

How about introducing a choice to whether "Link" is a male or female? Same character, same situation. Just different gender. It could add replay value as some people might say something different depending on your gender.

as long as he's not saying 'well excuuuuuuuuuse me, Link!', i guess we can't complain.

that said, if you're going to troll like that, this kinda isn't the thread for it. please be serious. :/

Link didn't have an army, so he saved it in the only way he could. Zelda is a member of a royal family and can order around a bunch of knights to kick Ganon's . Not to mention, it seems more like vigilante justice from a political standpoint to go and kill him rather than get the medieval equivalent to the police to throw him in the dungeon (prison dungeon, not temple puzzle dungeon). Is Ganon any less manly for having Link fight through an army to get to him? I guess if you want to view it as degrading for Zelda to use an army, then Ganon captures her, then Link doesn't show up. Then the Hylian King, Zelda's father, would have to order around the army to kick Ganon's ...

She's right guys. Remember, George Washiton wore a wig and powder.

On a serious note, yeah. I'd have no problem with a Zelda game where Link was a girl.

Yeah, because that worked so well in Twilight Princess. Look, I'm not talking about things being 'degrading' or not, I'm talking equal-opportunity here. Link is always one person, and the way the stories are written, he has the ability to get through the game on his own to deliver that final blow himself (with the help of a few friends here and there along the way). I'd like to see a story written in this manner for Zelda someday to let her be the hero, to get her off her duff and saving her own kingdom for once is all.

Isn't she supposed to be some sage/sorcerer? And look at Smash Bros....she can obviously kick butt, lol

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...

That would be cool. I imagine it would be more about magic than weapons. How about a chapter based Zelda game where some chapters you play as Link and some as Zelda? Maybe throw in a goron, deku scrub or zora here or there.

Although I've never played the game, I've always though that Super Princess Peach was an incredibly good idea and I'd certainly be interested in seeing a Legend of Zelda game where Zelda is the protagonist.
