Topic: Should I not get the Wii U?

I asked this over at the wii u gamefaqs forum, virtually all replies told me to get one of the other systems. The thing is, I had the Wii U before, totally loved it, but I got scared when i heard about the lack of games, which turned out to not be true, for me, and the possibility that it will be discontinued soon. I got rid of it, and now I regret that, but am not sure if I should get it again. The fact is that there are more games out now and announced future games for the Wii U that I want, as opposed to ps4 and Xbox One. I don't know if the Wii U will be canceled early, that's my biggest worry. I don't really care about the graphics, so there goes that advantage. I weighed the pros and cons, the Wii U wins, for me I mean. Someone did gave me a good point. That in the entirety of their lives, the PS4 and Xbox One will have a much larger amount of great games then the Wii U can ever have. So I bring the question to you guys, should I not get the Wii U, or should I stick with a product I know I love?

I think the Wii U is completely worth it. The Xbox One and PS4 will have a bigger library but sadly it will not be filled with exclusives. I have a Gaming PC so I can get all the 3rd Party games I want, which might not be the same as your case. I love Nintendo Products and out of all the exclusives I feel Nintendo has the best. So basically I recommend getting a Wii U.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I don't have a PC that can run games, and I won't be getting a second console, I can't afford it. Here's my list of pro's and cons against the Xbox One.
Wii U:
+more games out now and upcoming that I want
-will have much less games overall then xbox
+gamepad benefits
+Better OS
+more stable
+more cheap games
-won't get most games that the other systems get
-inferior graphics
-may be discontinued early.
+no memory installs to worry about
+nintendo exclusives
-much less demos
-will have to use the gamepad charger more then xbox, which means it will probably wear out sooner
+Can use netflix and amazon prime for free
-can't play dvds/blu ray
8 pros, 7 cons

Xbox One:
+better graphics
+much more games overall than the Wii U
-fewer announced games that I want
-much smaller amount of indie games
+much more demos
-Less stable system
-Inferior OS
-Memory install issues the Wii U doesn't have.
-Can't use netflix and amazon prime for free
+Can play dvds/blu ray
-games will always be more expensive
4 pros, 5 cons

If you've got the money, get the Wii U.

If you have a halfway decent PC or a PS3/360, there's no reason to spend $400 to get the exact same games that look a bit prettier. As of now, that's still an argument against the PS4 and One, but until they prove it wrong, I'll keep bringing it up. At the very least, they could have made the consoles backwards compatible, but no. They slightly upgraded the PS3 and 360 and are making the same games for all four consoles. The last three games I remember being on hype trains (Titanfall, Destiny, and Watch_Dogs) were all cross-gen games anyway.

I'd keep my mouth shut if either A) the PS4 and One were backwards Compatible or B) The Wii U was doing the same thing. All of the Wii U's games with the exception of a few are purely available on Wii U. Sure there are third party multiplats like Darksiders, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty, but Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Zombi U, and Nintendo Land aren't uprezzed Wii titles nor are they being ported to the PC (legally) any time soon.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I don't think the Wii U will be discontinued early. I think it will be like the GameCube and stay for five years (maybe one more, but five was the number of years between GC and Wii) and then die quickly following the release of the next console. I can't see it having the life of the NES, but I don't think Nintendo will do to the Wii U what Sega did to the Saturn.

It really depends on how much you want Nintendo's games. If you can live without them, you can live without a Wii U. It really won't get many third-party games going forward. Apart from what's already been announced, I don't know what else Nintendo is going to make for the Wii U, but thus far it's been a slow trickle.

If you want a system with a reliably large library and don't have one already, you may want to check out an Xbox 360 or a PS3. They're still being supported, and they're cheaper than all of the newest consoles.

I personally would say get a PS4, but since your tastes are different, it may not be right. I would say to think about the possibilities and probable sequels you'd want in deciding too. I'm also not sure when you say that Wii U has more desirable games, but less overall. Games you'll never dont matter, so kick those out of the equation. I also don't know what you mean by cheap games, if anything they'd be more expensive. PS4/Xbone games have price drops while Nintendo tends to make games cost full day one retail price (in Wii U's case $60) for years usually.
I also don't think it will be discontinued early, but probably a few years before PS4/Xbone. I'd expect something similar to the Wii and PS360 support time difference.

Same argument can be applied to Wii U. It's games are just as much the same as PS4s. (Outside of backwards comparability)

007, what I meant was that from what's known now, there are more games I want for the Wii U, but at the end of this generation's life cycle, like in 10 years say, the Xbox One will have much more games than the Wii U. and cheaper games when you count in all the indie digital only games I want, versus only 1 so far I want for the Xbox One. Oh, and I tried the 360, I didn't like it nearly as much as the Wii U, so I'm only interested in the current generation.

Oh, and I should mention I don't like FPS or RPG's. I like third person action adventure games and platformers.

well your reasoning to get a Wii U jumped up by like 1000 points! Action adventure could go either way, Nintendo loves them platformers and the vast majority of focus of major titles on the other two consoles will be western RPGs and shooters. Wii U is perfect for you...in this example at least.

@circa1981 I have both the PS4 and Wii U and I don't see how they compete with each other. Yes they are both 8th gen consoles but there is where the similarity ends. You made a foolish mistake by getting rid of the Wii U, better fix that mistake ASAP

@circa1981 Why did you get rid off the Wiiu? You should have kept the console and saved up for a PS4 or Xbox one if you were worried about games.Cause now you're going too have to waste more money for a console you already had.Which you could have used the money for a different one,you pretty much screwed yourself friendo.

That would be true if he gave the system away for free, but for some reason I doubt that's what he did.

I doubt anyone bought a used Wii U for 300+ dollars

To be honest I;ve had this discussion with a lot of people who have asked me if they should get a WII U and what I tell them is I love the console its really fun but only get one if its going to be your second console.

Now my reason for telling them to get it as a second console is I know these people personally and they are mainly casual gamers who like to pick up a title here and there that appeals to them or gets so hyped up it hits their radar and those titles are not normally on the WII U (basically all the big third party titles they see on TV)

If you a Nintendo fan that will buy every first party release and be happy with just that chances are you all ready own a WII U or waiting for the library to grow.

Get it if you want to play some great Nintendo titles, otherwise don't.

Most people have beat me to the punch, so I'll just say what bothers me most about your objections. The Wii U isn't going to get discontinued. A lot of people forget how long Nintendo's been in this game and they saw first hand what happened with SEGA. If anything, they'd be afraid to have a console run any less than four or five years. Seriously, Nintendo's the only video game company to have an offering for every single console generation to date (mind you, Game & Watch and arcade cabinets made up their 2nd gen offerings.) I really doubt they'd make a mistake such as discontinuing a console that's actually selling well enough to justify pleasing the fans. If nothing else, Nintendo can keep bringing us DLC for the bigger games on the system and we will probably keep buying it, because their DLC is pretty awesome.

I would absolutely suggest getting a Wii U. It's a great system with great games. Sure, shovelware isn't exactly non-existent, but when is it ever? Besides, from what I can tell, so far, PS4 and XBO are currently lacking in the "compelling exclusives" department. If you have an even halfway decent gaming PC, you can get these games cheaper on Steam and save yourself the trouble. Thus far, I think it's entirely possible to skip Sony and Microsoft and miss out on very little, this generation, but skipping the Wii U, you're gonna miss a lot. After all, you said it yourself. Nintendo won't be getting the same games as the other guys. They'll be getting exclusives and plenty of them. You can't play Hyrule Warriors, Smash Wii U, Zelda U, or Mario Kart 8 on any other system, so if you're gonna upgrade any time soon, Nintendo's definitely the way to go.

And if you have a decent PC, I can't see much reason to buy consoles from a technical standpoint anyway. All consoles are outdated compared to the PC. The exclusives and completely different gameplay experiences are the only things consoles could compete with IMO.

Wii U or Xbox One?

So just to clarify.

The Wii U will have fewer games but more games now and upcoming that you want.
The Xbox One will have more games.but less games now and upcoming that you want.
You like Nintendo exclusives and platformers but don't like FPS or RPG'S and didn't enjoy playing with the 360.
The Xbox One will have more demos of games that you don't like.
The Xbox One has better graphics but you don't care for graphics anyway.

Hmmm,it's a tricky one for you mate

Get the console that can get you more games, i got a WiiU and 2 months after a PS4, im shoking by the lack of decent games on the PS4 yet im impressed by the ammount of great games on WiiU (granted the WiiU has been on the market for a whole extra year)...

the PS4 future is looking much better now, but so is the WiiU's one, i cant wait for Bayonetta 2 and Smash (just got Hyrule Warriors), yet i havent bought a single PS4 game since the initial 3 (Diablo 3, Last of US and Infamous) and Destiny (which is stupidly overhyped and if wasnt because my brother got it i would have sold it already) and i dont see which other game i will be buying for it, MAYBE Evil Within... and Call of Duty in November ? the only game im buying a 100% is Bloodborne, which isnt coming untill Feb/March 2015

At the end its a matter of games, not graphics,if you care about PS4/XB1 then by all means get one, besides the lack of games its a great system, but if you dont and you care a lot more about the WiiU games, get it its an amazing system, and OFF-TV is easily the best "next-gen" feature EVER (if you love watching TV & play games, Off-TV will be your best friend)
