Topic: Should I keep my Wii U?

I'm struggling with whether or not I should keep my Wii U. I've had it just over a month, and it's already messing up. The gamepad controller is losing connectivity every few minutes despite being within 8 feet of the console. This makes games almost unplayable with the gamepad as Mario continues running in the last inputted direction or undershoots a jump, etc. Nintendo customer service will not help.
On top of that, it looks like I've already exhausted the entire Nintendo library of games that I actually care about. (Furthermore, I have no interest in Smash Bros or Mario Kart, so I'm not looking forward to anything coming out.)
Should I try to sell off the system? I will get hosed by losing access to $200+ of Virtual Console material as well as taking a hit on the console itself. But it will of course continue to depreciate in value the longer I hang on to it.
So I think Game Stop is offering $117 trade credit. Is a half-functional Wii U worth $117 and the valuable space in my entertainment center? I'm calling it half-functional only for my virtual console games and Wii discs - I will not be purchasing any new games requiring the Gamepad for obvious reasons.
Your thoughts?

Well since this is a Nintendo fansite you are going to get a bunch of reasons as to why you should keep your system but in the end it's up to you. If you are really not that happy with it, and you want the space then I say get rid of it. That way someone who wants a Wii U but can't afford a new one can get a used one and enjoy it. But that is just me.

I don't think anyone would take it if it's messing up. Did you buy it new? If so, it should be under warranty. Just send it in to Nintendo.

@CanisWolfred: Gamestop will take busted and not working consoles but will give you alot less then a working one which is to be expected. I took in a 360 of mine that stopped reading discs.

First of all, yea it should be under warranty. Secondly, if you have no interest in the two biggest WiiU games of the year, then I don't know why you bought a WiiU in the first place and you should definitely sell it.

It's Wario time Yaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

If you exhausted the entire library that interests you in around a month, and you don't care about the biggest upcoming Wii U games, then I guess the Wii U (or even Nintendo games in general) is not for you.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Not interested in Mario Kart, and let alone Smash Bros.??? Then, yes, you should sell it.

Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf

So you're not interested in any of the upcoming Wii U games? In that case sell it. I think the trade-in value even with a defective system should give you a decent change.

Nintendo should be able to handle repair of your system.

The alternative seems foolish to me, throwing away such a collection of Virtual Console games.

No one knows what are the upcoming wii u games...no one know what the next metroid, zelda, star fox and new ips are like...so u probably should have waited longer before buying it, to be sure that u wanted it...but right now that u already have it, why sell it if u dont know what are u going to be missing in the future? But if you dont care about nintendo games, then this console is not for u.

I'd keep it for the Virtual Console games, since those don't use the GamePad. If you don't really care about those, though, you might as well get rid of the thing.

The Wii U name is not so great for those who feel excluded, lol

Wow. Selling seems like a pretty big financial hit. Are you really ok losing that much money? I'd be keen on finding a way to fix the connection problems instead of selling at a hefty loss (especially once you count all the digital content lost in the process).

Send it back to Nintendo and get them to check out the hardware - at just a month old you should be fully covered. Maybe consider buying a replacement console - maybe used - and transfer all your digital content over before selling away the defective hardware. Just writing off $300 (over $200 in content, and at least $100 loss on the hardware) with nothing to show for it would be that last option that I'd pick.

If you don't want it and can't justify to yourself a reason to keep it then move on to something else.

Yeah, I bought it mostly to share with my fiancee's daughter so we could play together - and then I got dumped the next week. So that still kind of stings.
I played through Mario 3D World and Mario U in less than a week each. Rayman is great, but the poor connection of the Gamepad is leaving me wishing I just had it for another console. Wind Waker (which I missed out on the first time as a GameCube release) was a terrible disappointment to me - I traded it in after a week. Donkey Kong seems ok but it feels like too much of the same after all the other platformers (and I still haven't played through much of DKCR for the Wii).
I'm not a big fan of sports games, and I put racing and fighting games in there too. I have the Wii counterparts to Kart and Smash Bros, and I just don't see anything to get excited about the new releases.
I'd love something like an open world adventure game with a lot to explore. I've had Skyrim for years and am still playing it, exploring it, having dozens of hours of gametime in it. Nothing I've seen for the Wii U comes close to the replayability, immersion, and depth of that game. Most of these Mario titles are finished in under 10 hours. And for a $60 game on a current console, it just doesn't seem worth it.
I don't know if part of it is due to the bitterness from not being able to play it with this child, which is just exacerbated with the Gamepad failure.

I don't really buy this story, no offense. If legit, and you wanted a long game, just play Monster Hunter. It's the longest.

@DrWaites: Well from what you just said it does sound like the Wii U is not for you then. I would suggest maybe trading it in towards the purchase of either a PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 or Xbox One. Like I said Gamestop will take it if its not working properly and sometimes they will even give you extra credit towards the purchase of one those system. The only thing though is you probably will lose money on the VC games unless I don't know if Gamestop will credit that as well.

But still it just sounds like you are ready to move on and if that's the case no sense on holding onto a system that you aren't going to enjoy when you can trade it in for something else and someone else can enjoy the system.

You're free to do whatever you want, as long as you're comfortable with your decision. It's up to you.

To me, I'll keep mine because I know there are great games that will be released for it, and I'll be enjoying them until they release another console.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

Why because someone is unhappy with the Wii U? Sounds legit to me. Just because you like the Wii U doesn't mean everyone does.

No, it's not the reason.
