Topic: Should I grab a new console by Nintendo? More for Smash.

Haven't update my Nintendo consoles in a long time. I still have a Wii and old school DS. The latest smash seems really great and want to ask the community on their opinion if I should buy a Wii U or a new 3DS? I will obviously grab the new smash, but I also plan on getting other games for it.

I just heard about this new Nintendo NX? Should I just scrap this idea and get a PS4?

Both systems have plenty of a games to last you for quite a while.

Look, I love Nintendo as much as the next guy, it's why I bought the Wii U at launch, but they've made some bad decisions that have caused issues for the Wii U.

Basically, if you mostly want to play exclusive Nintendo games, then get a Nintendo console.
However, if you want to play any 3rd party developer's games, Wii U is a really, really bad choice. Wii U has missed a bunch of AAA games and those it has gotten have usually been months after PS4 and XBONE and most have been mediocre-bad ports.
Most eShop games are either digital versions of retail, 2D indie games, or "classics" on the virtual console.

The console itself is pretty nice, but the library isn't great as third party games go.

Personally, I would avoid buying a 3ds or a new 3ds. These two are essentially the same, except the new one has faster processing and a built in (tiny) second control pad. 99% of games for the new 3ds are on the 3ds. The only exception that I know of is Xenoblade Chronicles. In my personal experience, 3D games that require a lot of finesse are not very comfortable to play on a handheld when compared to a console.
My reasoning for not buying a 3ds is basically this: The new 3ds is like the DSI from the DS family. 3DS has 2, maybe 3 years before Nintendo scraps it for a new handheld. If you don't care about that, go ahead and get one. 3DS has a pretty good selection of stuff on the eShop.

If you want a console that will be "current" for a long time, though, don't buy a Wii U or a 3DS. Wait for the next generation 2 or 3 years from now, or you'll just end up blowing more cash upgrading to the new system. Or just buy the PS4, which probably has about 4-5 years before the next PS release.

the new 3ds auto adjusts the 3d so it's pretty nice and easy to use, don't have one but already played on one and it's something else on the 3d department
plus smash 3ds has smash run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Wii U is a really great system with really great games. I highly recommend it.

If you only care about playing Smash in HD and want access to other Nintendo exclusive titles, get the Wii U.

If you only care about playing Smash and want access to other Nintendo exclusive titles along with good 3rd party support, get the new 3DS.

If you only care about strong 3rd party support, get a PS4 but you won't be able to play Smash which appears to be the reason you're shopping for a new system to begin with.

I think it depends almost entirely if the 3rd party 3DS games interest you (that and your preferences between Kid Icarus/Luigi's Mansion vs. Splatoon/Pikmin). If 3DS seems cooler, go for it. If not (and you have enough money), Wii U. Wii U is the better Nintendo and indie machine.

The best experience for smash is on the Wii U. However if you also want to play games like Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Story of Seasons etc then definitely go for the 3DS. Honestly if you financial permits it, buy both. They compliment each other very well.

I'll join the choir and say the deciding factor is how big a fan you are of Nintendo games. There's a lot more than Smash on the Wii U; you just need to ask yourself if you want Nintendo's IP more than the new Batman game, which likely won't be coming to NX either.

Get both the 3DS and the Wii U. If you want more games in general, get a PC it will have both multiplatforms and endless number of exclusives on its own.

I guess you know the answer already - you either like what nintendo has got in store for you or you dont. Personally I play nintendo games almost exclusively - dont have enougth time to play every game out there - so I made my choice and I am quite content with games like mario kart, smash, captain toad, pikmin etc. that is not to say that I appreciate everything nintendo is bringing out (not gonna buy nintendoland or mario party or amiibo) and of course they could have done much better with the wii u - at least not abandon ship and instead bring out more quality titles that the people want - guess its not too profitable for them, pity... I am looking forward to the upcoming xenoblade and hopefully the new zelda...

Nothing against Nintendo, but buying PS4 makes way more sense right know. Unless you ONLY want to play Nintendo games, then by all means get a WiiU. Just know that with the release of NX in 2016 or 2017 at the latest, the WiiU has a significantly shorter lifespan than the PS4!!!

Buying a weaker PC with 2 worthwhile exclusives makes way more sense?

Anyway, nothing against nintendo. Still think the PS4 is the better choice.

You should try to use words correctly and not make idiotic assumptions anytime someone disagrees with you.

Sorry, but nearly every worthwhile game on PS4 I could get elsewhere, and it just makes me more interested in PC gaming more than actually getting a PS4. Honestly Sony isn't even hiding that anymore, they mentioned "and PC" a lot at their conference. Like the Wii U, the only real issue is money.

The OP was asking whether he should buy a WiiU or a PS4. He said nothing about a PC. To that question i gave my honest opinion. Not explaining myself any further.
As for my spelling mistake: English is my 3rd language so i don't really care about making a grammatical error here and there.

Yeah, I honestly would buy multi-platform games on my Mac before getting another console, given the paucity of exclusives on those platforms and emphasis on media centre functionality that I have no use for.
