Topic: Shin’en: Wii U Doesn’t Have Many Limitations, Like Other Current Gen Platforms

Shinen had some very good words recently about the console. What do you make of it? Pretty much goes against some criticism you hear sometimes from nintendo haters. This is not a new thing. Shinen like Renegade Kid, Nnooo, and others have been saying this for a long time.
What say you?

“We have a few Wii U devkits since quite some time. We even almost finished our first Wii U game. The kits exceeded our expectations in every way and we still learn how to get the best performance out of it. A good thing about Wii U is that it’s very easy to develop for. You don’t have so many limitations like on the other current gen platforms. For us the Wii U is the perfect platform with enough horsepower for many years to come. I think we currently only tapped 20% of its potential and our first game already looks and plays brilliant.”

“Digital is of course the future. We love that Nintendo doesn’t really put restrictions on the developers what they want to do in the eShop. For us as a small developer it’s like a dream come true to be able to design whatever we want and to bring it quickly to the players.”

Why can't Nintendo just tell us the damn limitations and specs so all of these developers can shut up?

I like to abstain from coming off so hostile, but it is rather frustrating that every week a new developer contradicts what a developer said the previous week about the Wii U. At this point I 'know' that the Wii U is twice as powerful as the Xbox 360, not as powerful as the Xbox 360, not internally impressive, very impressive, and has no limitations. Great.

Jeremiah Slaczka (from 5th Cell) also said this about the Wii U;

"It's definitely more powerful than the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It's [sic] has been kind of frustrating to see the rumours and speculation of people going back and forth saying it's weaker or more powerful. The Wii U is most definitely more powerful."

I think we can put all this to rest...please?

Still, that was an interesting read, Koos!

That's always nice to hear and being very dev-friendly is definitely what Nintendo should go for. Some have also said that it would be easy to bring multiplatform games to the Wii U which would also be very important for the platform.
In the end the console can be as dev friendly as it wants though as long as many 3rd parties think their games won't sell on it. I'd say we'll have to wait until Ninty tells us more about the Wii U and its price to see about that.

"You don’t have so many limitations like on the other current gen platforms."
So, what they're saying is that the Wii U is a current gen console, which really isn't a compliment at all when it's supposed to be a next gen console.

I don't think it was meant like that, IMO.

No really.. They have the system, making it current gen for them at the moment. Next gen would imply the system beyond WiiU.

No, no, they aren't. That isn't even the point of his sentence.

How the heck do you get that out of his sentence? Because it said "current gen"? If he meant that Wii U was current gen, he probably wouldn't make any notable different between the consoles at all!

I find it odd we are really only getting these messages from nintendo only devs.

And we already knew the wii U was more powerful than the 360/PS3. The problem is how much more powerful and how will it fare compared to the other next-gen consoles.

WAT!

@Kage_88 They may have not meant it that way, but they said it that way and I find it interesting.
@19Robb92 Current generation of home consoles is the seventh and the next generation will be the eighth one which the Wii U will be a part of.
That is the definition of those terms at this time and if they are going to deviate from that they should make it clear.

@DonnyKD They could have said "on the current gen platforms", that would've indicated that the Wii U isn't a part of the current gen.
But for some reason they decided to add the word other in there, and that puts the Wii U in the same generation with others.

These are my thoughts as well.

Does it really matter?
As long as the games are fun it doesn't matter about power.
Only the developers should worry about power because that means they actually have to work and optimize a game for a system.
The consumer shouldn't worry about power.

So a dev that only works with Nintendo systems likes the new Nintendo system. So much so, that they're saying it's better than consoles from 2005.

Well this is terrific news. I can see why the TC is so excited.

@ tat2 they're saying 'other' not in the sense you think. His next sentence says its much more powerful.
I don't think it has to do with Nintendo only developers. First some developers who say good things are not only Nintendo. The aforementioned small Noooo or Wayforward or nicalis or the bit trip guys or the Goo guys . Second they obviously can choose which platform they want they're independent and they still see good things in Nintendo. That kinda contradict others.

Agreed. I don't know why we need to see system specs unless we're going to be developing for it.

HD picture on two screens at the same time and the ability to stream games to the remote. I don't know how people this this is as powerful or weaker than the current consoles- it's like saying the PS3 has less power than the GameCube. >_<
