Topic: Setting her up. (System Cradle Question.)

So I am finally getting to set up my new Wii U. (For those that read my previous thread, I did go back and get a system with the physical games inside.)

Anyways, I was reading the materials inside after unpacking everything. It wanted the Gamepad charged up to full prior to setting it all up. Which I will do even though in the past I usually disregard this rule. So while it was charging, and still is charging, I was reading all the printed materials. Now I notice that it says to keep the vents 4 inches away from any surface. The odd thing is, some of the vents are on the side of the device. The side that will be less than a quarter of an inch from the surface the system will set on if I place it on the system cradles and have it standing up.

Does anybody else stand their system up? Have you had any issues. I kind of want to lay it flat just based on their own recommendation. Seems weird they would say that though and then give you a stand that puts vents so close to a surface.

Your thoughts? I guess I am asking because I have time to kill anyways and I might as well see if there is some known problem out there people have had with standing it up.

I never really had a probably with the vents even though I don't put it that high. It works pretty fine when you don't stand it up. Speaking of that. I don't like standing my systems up. I always get the slight fear that someone is going to accidently push it over and since I put my systems on high places, yeah, I can't help myself.

Well depends on what you mean, if you mean leaving her there waiting then thats easy. Just ditch her, stand her up.
Now getting her set into the mood can be tricky but you know her better then us. Go get her!

lol, this topic took on a whole new unintentional meaning.

lets see, should I stand her up or lay her down.

This is just bad. Badkitty.

I did decide to lay her down. Bah. I am placing the "console" in the horizontal configuration.

Just over 2 hours now. Its officially stated it takes 2.5 hours to charge. I was hoping it would have a decent charge to it already and it would not take that long. Looks like it was pretty juiced. Though on the plus side, sometime within the next half hour that little orange light that is taunting me will shut off and you guys wont hear a peep out of me for a while. At least you hope....

Note that there's plastic bits sticking out on the side with the vents - unless you're pressing the console up against something soft like a pillow, they should prevent the machine from getting closer than the recommended distance from a wall; the are also used to slot into the stand, so no, you shouldn't have an issue using a stand; in fact I'm sure there's forum members who do.

It does appear to have been designed for a more horizontal position, however. I keep my Gamepad on top in a charge cradle which also ensures plenty of clearance on the vent side.
