Hello all,

I would like to download some Virtual Console and Wii Ware on Wii U. Can I save those on the Wii U internal memory or I will be needing a SD Card?

Thank you very much,
Allan

You can use the Wii U internal memory...although I didn't know there was a 512 MB limit? That seems kind of silly that they capped the memory at the original Wii's limit..

Well even if you only have 512 MB, you can still download about 15 games before running out of memory (a combination of WiiWare, N64 , SNES, NES, etc.)

If you're not getting any N64/Wiiware games, however, you could probably get closer to around 30.

Yeah that was a bit of a rude shock. I can only imagine it was to ensure maximum backwards-compatibility. I hope we'll be able to import Wii Channel stuff into the Wii U space a la Miis following a future update to overhaul the way Wii emulation works.

To the original poster I have a 2GB card and a fair amount of software on it and it's still practically empty. Unless you're planning on buying everything in the shop or using the card for DLC for a game like Rock Band or Just Dance 2, you shouldn't need anything bigger. In fact due to the limit on the number of channels I believe someone calculated that a card only used for WiiWare and VC couldn't use more than an 8GB card and then you would have over 1GB free!

Hey so random question and I apologize if this offends anyone as a stupid question, but would it be possible for me to put my 3DS's SD card into my Wii U, copy the data over, take out the SD card and insert a new (and larger) SD card to then transfer the files? I don't own an SD card reader for my computer, so I was wondering if this could be a cheapskate way of doing it. I know they don't cost much... but just wondering.

Nope. I'm sure Nintendo will have a photo channel and data management through SD card if they add 3DS connectivity, which seems very likely to happen. Otherwise, you'll just need a computer.
