Topic: 105-0642 Nintendo's year old error code CSRs can't fix

Got my Wii U back from Nintendo repair shop today - why does UPS always have to show up after 5PM? - and Nintendo replaced the main board, and wiped all my Wii U save data, so it' basically like starting over from scratch. They did manage to somehow keep my transfered Wii save data (though none of the actual games), but the Wii U game saves are no more.

And here's the final kick to the groin. As if waiting 2 weeks wasn't bad enough - my kids had almost platinumed all the extra Pikmin 3 DLs - I cant get back into the eShop to DL the games I already bought - Pokemon Rumble U, Kung Fu Rabbit, Toki Tori 2+ and the Pikmin 3 levels. I called, and the girl on the phone - Dana - very nice girl, trying very hard - tells me somebody has to call me back so I can access the eShop - in FOUR TO SIX BUSINESS DAYS!!! I'm on the phone for almost an hour, constantly being assured I can redownload all the stuff I've already paid for, but I have to wait another week for somebody to call me back!? Why keep my system for 2 weeks and send it back like this? Why not just return it the way it was? Had I known there would be this many problems I would have returned it to Target, it's been 82 days and I have the box and receipt and it didn't work, which is why I sent it back. I still might return it and lose everything and start over. I'm SO PO'd. Losing all my kids and my save data is bad enough, but I have to wait a week for a call back so I can reDL my stuff? That's just salt rubbed deep into the wound. Stupid Nintendo. My kids have been waiting a long time to finish their plainums, and now they have to start the whole game over. Both of them. They each played over 20 hours and were tying to get all the fruit before the end. It's just not right.

I really doubt Nintendo intentionally did any of this to upset you or make things difficult for you.

What was wrong with it before you sent it in?

What was the issue you were having with the system? That could be the reason your save data could not be saved, rather than Nintendo having a grudge against you. Odd about the Eshop thing though. Are you logged in to your account? Did they send you a new WiiU, or a replacement with what data they could keep swapped over?

Seriously though you wouldn't have this problem if you just got a external HDD like the rest of us, man!

Unfortunately if they had to do anything to the mother board, all data is lost. My recommendation is backing up all your data on an external hard drive.

That sucks man. On the bright side, it's good you'll be getting you're downloads back, even if not in a timely manner. Your dilemma has me considering moving my data to USB, just in case. Although, externals are synced with one console, so the save data would do no good on a replacement console. Sounds to me like they replaced the motherboard, in which case there's nothing they could've done to salvage the data. I used to fix cpus at my last job, and I've switched out my fair share. It does suck though.

Thing is, nintendo should have moved the save data onto their systems and moved it back after the repair. They can do it because I know of people who've had similar issues with their wii's

Are you sure? Eshop downloads are synced to the console and account, but if Nintendo sends a replacement console, they will have swapped the Eshop account details to it. Hence any downloaded games will still work just fine the moment you plug in the external storage.

If his main board was goofed, maybe the data was corrupt or wiped when they received it?

Why did you send it in to begin with?

Thankfully I have never had a faulty Nintendo console, but from what I have heard, you seem to be the exception, and also in regards to their customer service. Anyway, if the save data could not be salvaged as others are suggesting, they could still do better and tell you that.

On the bright side, Pikmin 3 is a great game, so replaying it should not be that much of a chore.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

I don't think the reason Nintendo won't support the sdcard in Wii U mode is a good enough reason. (save game Exploits). At least not without another solution like backing them up to Nintendo servers instead.

Even if I was to use an external drive for eshop downloads I wouldn't want my save game backups on there. (Especially as they cannot even be read to back them up properly). My Wii save backups (For games I am not currently playing) are on an sdcard that is not in the system all the time and backed up to dropbox. (There is some I haven't finished but I have put quite a number of hours into. I don't take kindly to people wasting my time no matter who they are. The more of it they waste the more angry it makes me).

Nintendo's approach to online and Accounts is dismal, episode 38,438.

Best thing to happen to boxed retail sales in years. It's almost as if they're deliberately pushing back against the move towards digital.

This is why I always save a backup of all my downloads, and my save data. Hopefully it all works out for you in the end bro~

Backing up won't work. When you want to use it on a different Wii U, kt has to be formatted, rendering back-ups useless.
