I'm expecting that the Wii U is capable of doing it. Definitely. But I question how. That HOW is the big question, along with another: Is there a market?
A mario RTS where you can play as Bowser, the Mushroom Kingdom, or other contempories in the Mario games sounds interesting. I think Nintendo is probably going to try and make an RTS for the Wii U, though probably not a Mario one. (I don't know how you can show units on all sides dieing, since Nintendo really isn't like bloody games (And I dont just mean in a Mario game either. Maybe units can pop like yoshis in that mario themed checkers game). Let alone how that would effect the Mario image. But on the flip side I'm definitely sure people would like to play as Bowser's forces or Yoshis or something!)
anyway it's an interesting thought. Share any you have?
Will an RTS go with Nintendo's commitment to producing core games and games to bring loved ones together? Just because the Wii U is capable of RTS games doesn't necessarily mean that they will make such a game.
@xThomas
I too would like to see if the WiiU could be used in a neat way for RTS games. I assume by your avatar that you're a huge AoE fan like I am.
I can't see Nintendo trying to make an RTS game, but hopefully a third party takes a crack at it. PCs are generally the home to RTSs simply because the mouse and keyboard is pretty much an unbeatable setup. But the gamepad opens up some interesting avenues - the abililty to look at 2 areas of the map at once (ie keep an eye on your town center while you're assaulting an enemy's base). A touchscreen is also getting close to what a mouse and keyboard can accomplish, though without the exact level of precision.

Two-player co-op - one on pad, other on TV.
Can't do that on any system I know of.
Controls - keyboard & mouse for TV, touch-screen for gamepad.
Two player skirmish might be do-able but to dependent on pad player not being able to see TV yet still have comms with console.
Warhammer 40k, CnC, heck, even HD reduxes of classic RTS.
Don't forget turn-based strategy, either... UFO:Enemy Unknown, any decent war-game (Steel Panthers, etc), and as has often been bandied around, Chess...

An RTS on the gamepad and a first person shooter on the tv. The person playing on the TV is one of the soldiers on the map for the person with the gamepad. The player on the tv is sort of like a "hero" character, like in Starcraft.

So ZombiU but co-operative?
That could work...

If they put a not-dumbed-down Command & Conquer, Starcraft, Dawn of War, or Supreme Commander on the system, and I'll be one happy camper. I'd prefer it if we got a not-dumbed-down 4X game, though.
