Topic: RPG Maker Games for Wii U

I have been messing around with RPG Maker XV Ace recently and I was wondering, would people be interested in games made in RPG Maker on Wii U? What if Nintendo or Enterbrain made a plugin for RPG Maker so that those games worked on Wii U? I would personally be very interested, especially if it wasn't completely open, as in you still had to become a Wii U developer before getting this plug in. (Note this isn't about getting RPG Maker onto Wii U, just games people make in RPG Maker on Wii U)

Similarly, I wonder how difficult it would be to get RPG Maker games to work on Wii U...

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

You'd need to specifically port each game and it'd take a fair bit of effort. They're not going to release RPG Maker on the Wii U either, or any other console atm, which is a shame.

Does RPG Maker XV Ace make executable files, or is it all just data that the program processes (and likely just copies a base-generic RPGM executable in a folder with the data)? If the latter, then they could make a port of the program for the Wii U, and then have the data be processed by that program, allowing any game made with the base program to be played on the Wii U. Distributing of your games would likely require some online functionality imo. I doubt they'd use something like the SD card port because it can lead to purposefully messing with the raw data in hopes of hacking the system. With Petit Computer 3 for the 3DS, they have servers that you upload/download your stuff to, so something along those lines would probably be a better solution for rpg maker game distributing.

Unfortunately, Voodoo is right. They are likely never going to make a version for consoles.

It should be as difficult to get RPG Maker games to work on Wii U as it is to get windows to work on the Wii U.

I've started a project in RPG maker, and getting it onto the Wii U would be awesome. Sadly, I don't think it's too plausible.

I would have never guessed Weezing was so useful until I played a HeartGold Nuzlocke!

Didn't they have a console version of a RPG Maker back then? Wasn't it PS2 or something?

Alright, I do not work for Desidia nor Enterbrain. But I've been on the official forums for almost as long as it existed and talked with several people who do. That has to count for something.

The problem with porting RPG Maker games to consoles, especially with Ace and before, is that it runs on a custom programing language that branches off from Ruby. This makes it very difficult for it to run on anything but Windows, even Linux or Mac will have some trouble running it or games made by it on an emulator.

However, with the recent announcement of RPG Maker MV and the features it provides, it might be possible. RPG Maker MV runs on Javascript, which is much more accessible than Ruby. This also gives the ability to export games into HTML5, allowing games to be played on most mobile devices AND browsers(this is one of MV's selling point) There's a demo advertising the browser support on the pre-order page that is also be playable on browsers. I should point this out though, even though the Wii U capable of running HTML5 on it's built in browser, the MV demo will not work on it, but this is more due to the browser's limitations rather than the console's. I would not be surprised if within the next year, someone who knows stuff about Javascript will be able to find out how to port games to Wii U, since I can say it's almost certainly possible with MV.

Console versions of RPG Maker had existed on the Super Famicon, PS1, PS2, Gameboy Advance, and DS... maybe even more if I decided to look the up. They tend to be shown in a negative light in the community though, mostly because they are extremely limited since you cannot import resources or export games. This is mostly why the graphics from the DS makers can simply be optioned with a licences to be used in Ace.
