@faint It's a God among 3rd party exclusives. That's noted, but it doesn't really beat out any of the nearby 1st party stuff or even come close, does it? (Although, it's good to hear that Bayo's fortunes have turned around because I remember people panicking when it had a semi-slow start up.)

If you want to play third party games this gen, buy a PS4 or PC. It's not rocket science. There's no sense in getting upset at companies for not making ports they think will be unprofitable.

I agree. People need to stop complaining, and face the facts. This isn't anything new. Nintendo's been missing out on 3rd party games since the wii, and to a lesser extent, the gamecube. I've learned to deal with it, and just buy two machines. One to play amazing Nintendo games, and another to play amazing third party games. Nintendo's Wii U is for GAMERS this gen. It's not at all like the Wii, which is ironic. Now the casuals are playing PS4 and XBone. So naturally, that's where Harmonix is going to release their game.

I like these types of games, but I'm a little bit glad they all immediately failed the year after they were selling millions. Like many genres, rhythm games became way more fun and interesting to me once we got games that weren't just plastic instrument games. Still sad Rhythm Heaven isn't a bigger name in gaming, since even games meant to simulate real music with real instruments don't quite compare with its understanding of actual rhythm for rhythm games. Also, outside of Xenoblade it's the best new Nintendo IP of the past 10-15 years.

I say this because X game not coming to Wii U is sadly not worth discussing at this point.

Rhythm Heaven is the only rhythm game I know where the mechanics and music are so clear you can literally play with your eyes closed and actually beat stages. And one of the few with sense of humour.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

That's actually not true, the casuals are not playing any console but rather smartphones instead.

You're both wrong @GrumbleVolcano @NinjaWaddleDee ... Nah, I just like saying that. You're both right, as it were! The Wii U is about the only system without a heavy concentration of casuals. They're still here, it's just that Nintendo's hardcore fans were the early adopters and still the main fanbase.

I also agree with that sentiment too. They are playing on both Sony and Microsoft consoles, as well as smartphones.

who cares. music sims are the worst. pick up a real guitar.

Well, I care, actually. The problem here is that you're calling it a music simulator, but that's where you're entirely wrong. Rock Band 3 barely scratched the surface of "music sim." It's a rhythm game. Wanna know why people play rhythm games? Lemme spell it out for you: Playing guitar = difficult and complex; playing Guitar Hero = easy-to-difficult and simple. Not just anyone can pick up a guitar and play. Not everyone has the time or aptitude. Some people just can't keep a beat to save their lives. Band games offer a fantasy experience that's easy to pick up and just have fun with. No hours upon hours of learning the basics just to realize you still can't even play one song. If it's too hard, just kick down the difficulty. (And before you jump to conclusions, I play guitar, bass, drums, piano, ocarina, and French horn, as well as singing a lot. I also play Rock Band and Guitar Hero all the time.)

so people play "rhythm games" because they can't keep a beat with a real instrument? that doesn't make sense rhythm is rhythm.. if you actually did practice on guitar for "hours upon hours" you actually would be able to play a song quite easily. if you have the time to sit in front of your xbox and play a "rhythm game" how do you not have the time to pick up a guitar and play THAT rhythm game? playing an instrument is not as hard as you're pretending.

If all else fails, my favorite phrase to use is "telling me to go pick up a real guitar instead of playing Guitar Hero is like telling someone who plays Call of Duty to go join a real war."

tl;dr Playing real instruments and playing Guitar Hero isn't the same thing or even remotely similar. Stop telling people to "go do the real thing" as it defeats the purpose of playing a game.

that analogy isn't very good. nobody aspires to join a war or kill others. it's a fantasy escape. if you actually aspire to go to war you're a sick person. however rock band just takes away the equally as realistic option to pick up a real instrument.

@martinskrtel37

how long will it take for me to learn to play the guitar as well as Eddie Van Halen? How long will it take me to learn how to play any song on Guitar Hero: Van Halen on easy? Which one has a more immediate reward? People play games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero not to learn a new skill but to have fun with less effort. My brother actually got really into guitar on Rock Band and ended up picking up a real guitar, he is one of the best musicians I know. I don't think it is fair to say just play a guitar as playing Rock Band and playing a real guitar give people two completely different experiences.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The difference between rhythm games and a real guitar is that you have icons in front of you telling you when to hit a button that correspond to the rhythms in the game. Also, learning how to play a rhythm game is much less time consuming than real instruments. Moreover, getting your skills rated (which is honestly the point of all video games) in rhythm games requires less connections than in real life. You can have an arena scream for you in Rock Band, but never play for a crowd over 20 in real life.

So yeah, they're different.

Why play SimCity when you can become a city planner? Why play Minecraft when you can become a miner or architect? Why play Pilotwings when you can become a pilot? Why play Street Fighter when you can become an MMA fighter?
And don't say this argument doesn't work because these professions are harder to become than a musician, because they're not. People have different predetermined skills which allow them to excel in different things. Being a musician isn't easy for most people.

so kinda like playing the notes on the sheet to whatever time signature it says? only not as easy. every reply seems to be about it being easy..

i'm not sure how rewarding it could be to do something so easy

No, you have to have internal rhythm to read notes. With rhythm games this isn't the case.

You'd think at some point people would learn to assume something isn't coming to the system and just be pleasantly surprised when it does.
