This. People are setting their expectations way too high. I don't care how "innovative" or not the system is. I'm just glad that Nintendo has finally caught up with the graphics standards that were set by Microsoft, Sony, and the rest of the industry.

The N64 and GameCube were hardly innovative (well, aside from Nintendo bringing many of their franchises into 3D for the first time), yet they still had some of the greatest games Nintendo has ever produced.

i personally think that the Wii U is going to be awesome. No one knows much about it so how can they judge that it's going to fail. I like the idea of a tablet controller. the PS Vita has a touchscreen in case everyone forgets that little detail. And the fact that the 3DS and the Wii U might be able to communciate is awesome news. I think everyone should wait until next year's E3 before calling doom and gloom. Did anyone look at the sales figures for the month of August? The 3DS sold 235,000 units. Highly doubt that Nintendo is going to fail and drop away anytime soon. And so what if the Wii U doesn't have a classic controller, neither did the Wii and look how well that sold and is still selling. It sold 190,000 units in August alone.

That's actually a good point. The games industry is starting to go to hell. The reasons why the 3DS has been selling less than expected are not nearly so much about Nintendo putting out a flawed product as they are about the market having changed substantially and 3rd parties still being clueless. It's really quite sad to think about. Releasing successful hardware is so much more complicated than releasing successful software. The GCN was a very solid piece of hardware that didn't sell especially well, but yet the games were just fantastic. The Wii was an amazing console that sold exceptionally well, but didn't have nearly as many excellent games. And in both cases there has been very little solid 3rd party support. There's so many odd dynamics that have to be considered, many of which have to do with people just not getting it, and unfortunately it ends up that quality alone is not enough to carry a product in the industry.

Clueless third parties? No, just no. Not supporting an underselling console =/= clueless.

Third parties don't have infinite resources. They're doing what they need to do to survive and remain profitable. If that means jumping on board with, say, Apple, then it would be clueless to ignore the opportunity.

As long as they are still making games, then they will be great in my book. I don't care about some fancy new controllers, or how much 3rd-party support they have. I just want Nintendo to keep making games, that's the reason I buy Nintendo systems.

Really? You know that Nintendo is just as oldschool as Sega was with their concepts and all, and look where it landed them. Now, they're basically carrying the 3D concept over to console, which tells me they're running outta steam because it's never really been done before since it's never really been necessary in the past. Where's the rationalization in that now? If there's more untapped potential out there for games the rate current technology is heaeded these days, surely they can do better than this.

Say what? Nintendo isn't pushing 3-D with their consoles. That's what Sony is doing with the PS3 and the new PlayStation-brand TV.

They can't be great AGAIN, because for them to be great again implies that at one point they stopped being great.
