Topic: Rev3's predictions about Nintendo at E3

I'm curious as to what people think about Adam Sessler and Tara Long's predictions for what Nintendo has at E3. Sessler seems to believe that Nintendo not having a big press conference is proof that none of the big Mario titles will be coming out this holiday. He also seems to place the Wii U as at best, being people's #2 console.

I personally do not think that just because Nintendo isn't having a big news conference at E3, none of the Mario games will be out for this holiday season. There have been a lot of signs pointing to them coming out this holiday.

Thoughts?

Sessler is dead wrong. Nintendo revealed (although inadvertedly through a press statement) that Mario Kart is coming this year. If their Nintendo Direct is anything to go by, then we're probably also getting a 3D Mario game.

Now, I guess if there was just some serious development problems, then yeah, none of them could come, but I really doubt that.

As for being people's #2 console... well, that's what happened with the Wii. And it ended up selling more units than the PS3 and 360, due in no small part to the fact that the games it offered were totally different (and yes, there's the casual market, but plenty of hardcore gamers got a Wii becuase it had a completely different library of games compared to the other systems. Just look at me.)

I disagree with his assumption on Mario as Mario Kart as least is a lock for the holiday. I do agree that the wii U at most will be a second console.

I agree. I think that Nintendo knows that they have to get the big Mario games out this holiday season in order to survive and remain relevant. I think it's an odd conclusion to jump to by Sessler that the big N won't have those games just because they aren't having a traditional E3 presser.

Mario Kart and the 3D Mario are confirmed to be playable at E3 and their development teams have had years to work on them. Ontop of that there was nothing from Nintendo at last year's E3 for the Wii U that went beyond the "launch window". So far all we have from Nintendo confirmed this year is Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi U.....

So why would it be crazy for them to have Mario (Kart) this year? How is their decision not to do a full live show proof that they won't have Mario ready for a launch this year? Mario is confirmed to be playable, why would the release date of it alter the amount of content they have when it's confirmed to be there? In the past they've had shows with less content than what is already confirmed, why are people assuming the change in format has anything to do with the content?

People forget that they are a business and that their intent is to spend money wisely. Personally I think what they're doing is a way to have more control over their message and nothing much more. If they can skip the traditional format and instead put more time and effort into game-specific content and interviews we'll probably end up better off. Everyone likes to forget how badly the Press Conference is handled most of the time by everyone.....
