Sony announced today that the PS3 will likely see longer than a 10yr lifespan and the 10yr mark is a minimum. Why? I'm guessing that it's because they have nowhere to go right now without the need for new TV's, etc. If Sony or Microsoft brought out a new console at the moment, it wouldn't be much different than what we have now.

So, breaking this down:

If the WiiU is 50% more powerful than PS3/360, so that means PS4 and 720 will only be 100% more powerful than PS3/360 but 50% more powerful than WiiU.

You don't know that, what if the PS4 and 720 can only be 50% more powerful than their predecessors? Not saying it will but the 50% more powerful has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo themselves. They still have another year of development and for all we know, 50% more power is the minimum we can expect, but it could be 100%.

Plus, going back to how the Wii was obviously less powerful than the PS3 and 360 yet it wiped the floor with them, who gives if it's not as powerful as the competition? Nintendo has proven itself that regardless of what its competitors put out, their own system will still thrive.

It's simple.

The WiiU is as powerful as the 360, 50% more powerful than a PS3, which is 100% less powerful than the PS4. Which doesn't exist, and wont exist for another 10 years, by which time it will be considerably less powerful than itself.

The Xbox 720 is currently 73.2% more and less powerful than both of them, and also doesn't exist. By the time it does, it will be 7% less powerful, but also 14% more powerful, than the WonderSwan, which by the year 2017 will be a real swan.

It is currently not known if a smaller, more portable duck version will be released. If it is, however, it will be 200% mlolress powerful than power itself.

The only thing more powerful is the Coleco SkyNet 1440, which will take over the world, and complete the 2 player mode of Ikaruga, on it's own, on 1 credit. Then it will jab you in the arm with something really sharp - possibly the bill of the duck.

Honestly, if we're talking realistic graphcis, it doesn't get much better than this....And if it can which they will, i just won't give a damn. Graphics have finally met their mute point as far as realism goes as shown in this video. I personally only care about realistic graphics when it comes to horror titles, such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill. The rest? Give me out of this world imagintive creative artistic colorful crazyness.
Screw realism, talent comes in Art direction, and when things get THIS real, in realistic settings, ART won't exactly apply.

You forgot about the Game Boy, which was 100% less powerful then everything else when it came out, lasted 12 years (with a color upgrade) until the Game Boy Advance came out, which was 1.75% less powerful than the original Playstation.

Indeed, I think Nintendo noticed that graphics are actually reaching their limit (like HD and such) so instead of giving higher quality graphics, why not give a completely different and more realistic type of gameplay which they did with the Wii and will continue to improve on with the Wii U.

Human beings are ugly, beautiful, average and whatever, this character shown in the video on the other hand is an ugly burnt out looking fart who's on drugs. I guess they just wanted to show the depth and detail of the wrinkles based on the mouth movements and such.

Personally, i don't want realistic graphics. I play videogames to ESCAPE realism, i want imagination through the roof and vivid colors and things that nobody can do in real life, or things that just aren't possible visually. Which is why I love nintendo hehe.

Anyways, this technology will be great for Resident Evil......But honestly, realism sucks hard for the most part. SIMS, realistic war shooters, GTA, Halo and Gears of War are EVERTYING I hate about gaming. take that realistic colorless gritty dull and depressing crap to the junk yard and let it die there.

It's one of the very reasons why i hate a lot of these new generation kiddy tween gamers. They scorn at the tought of playing a cartoon based game such as the nintendo franchises, Mega Man and what have you....They'll label them as 'gay' and move on to their mindless super serious buisness War shooters. Back in the late 80's and early 90's us kids were so much different, those were such better times it's not even funny.

Indeed realism does have a place in certain types of games. I mean seeing 3D fighting games that nearly look like you're controlling real people is kind of bad but yeah, tell me about it.

I work with kids on a daily basis and whenever I discuss videogames with the older kid/young teen boys, all of them were like "Halo, Black Ops, Assassin's Creed (which I love btw, another case where realism is very appropriate)" and some other realistic violent games and I tell them straight up "Pssh, I play Kirby, Sonic, and Mario, got a problem with that?" or "Why don't you play something manly like KIRBY!" XD

I was joking around with some of them saying "Halo's a shooter, COD is a shooter, along with Gears of War, Crysis, Metal of Honor, SOCOM, Battlefield, (I'm not sure about these but they look like shooters or use guns a lot) Lost Planet, Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, so is there anything you like that does require guns?"

The closest things I've played to FPS were Portal (will get Portal 2 later on) and I just started Mass Effect (since I like RPGs and never tried an American one). I'm super excited, though, for Kirby Wii and I'm currently enjoying Child of Eden

Devs creating FPS, RPG, Strat and Sim games for XBoX/PS3/PC might try to create fast ports to WiiU (independently of the power of the console), but then probably Nintendo will keep loyal to the WiiParty/Play/Sports/Resorts family as well as direct ports from N64 quite focused in the "new" options with the new control scheme.

My next move for home console will be (if any), PS3. It should be quite cheap by 2012 and then I'll have a look at the direction Nintendo takes with the WiiU. If similar to the Wii, then I'll keep as far from it as possible.

@yoyogamer, power is not only graphics quality, it is what makes a console able to handle a siege to a castle with 2000 soldiers while other console can handle it with only 10, independently of how well rendered the 10 soldiers are. If you are a PC user probably you already know how big may the impact of complex AI in performance (try ArmA2/OA for example).

The thing is though, flash, you've just fallen into the same trap as the kiddy tween gamers, you claim to hate. Just as they, ignorantly, dismiss quality games such as Zelda, Mario, Mega Man - you, ignorantly, dismiss quality games such as GTA, Modern Warfare, etc.

What counts, is gameplay, fun, enjoyment. I was around in the late 80s and early 90s, and, assuming you accept this post as proof of my continuing existence, I'm obviously still around now.

Back in the 8bit days what mattered what enjoyment - if a game is good, it's good. That is still what matters today,

The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past is a masterpiece. Grand Theft Auto IV is a masterpiece.

Dismissing a game such as Zelda because of the 'kiddie' nature of the graphics, is only as ignorant as dismissing GTA for the realistic nature of the graphics.

You don't have to like Zelda, or GTA. You like what you like - but if you've been around for a few years, played many a game, on many a system, you should be able to identify a quality game when you see it.

You flag up (quite rightly) the ignorance of people calling Mario or Zelda, gay, then fall right into the same trap, dismissing many great games as 'depressing crap' ready for the 'junkyard'.

As I said, you like what you like, and it's natural you play what you enjoy, but don't fall into the same trap as the 'kiddie' idiots.

You definitly do have a point, yet with me I think it's also a lot of the new young generation of gamers that i hate, many of them are completely clueless and oblivious and have no idea about how amazing the golden age of gaming was, they don't appreciate any of it or Nintendo and the fact that Nintendo brought back the gaming industry from the dead and made it it far more amazing. They'll never know what it was like during that time, but hey that's not exactly their fault.

Yet It's all getting rather unoriginal and tiring with the constant american advertising/commercials that are drenched with nothing but guns, goopy blood, commando's, war and violence that always tend to be reaping the air waves and it's just totaly annoying. Realism and with tons of guns and vilolence seem to be completely in favor in the main stream media as well.

Of course, like i mentioned none of those franchises appeal to me. Never cared for high jacking cars and beating up strippers in the ghetto, or being stuck in the war taking down troops strategically. For what they are, I'm sure they're fantastic, but i just hate how these franchises completely overshadow the more imaginitive, creative and iconic Nintendo franchises in the main stream media. Even mega Man and Castlevania are no much for Black Ops.lol

When we were kids, we'd always be talking about Kid Icarus, Mario Brothers, Zelda, Punch-Out!! and Mega Man ect.
