Region lock means you have to buy games from the same region as the system. So as long as those games are bought from the same region you buy your system you will be fine.

As long as the games are from the same region as the Wii U you should be fine. I think the safest bet when importing a system is to just buy digitally, you might be paying higher prices for those games but it would be a safer bet

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Most English-speaking Asian countries go under the same region as the US. If you have your doubts about whether your country is one of these, just buy the cheapest North American Wii or Wii U game you can get and you'll find out.

If you're importing your system and games, they will work. A Wii U will work anywhere in the world, as long as your games are from the same region. You may or may not have to get some kind of power converter depending on the standard electrical outlet of your country, though. Your best bet for those would be at an electronics store or a major airport.

@MrSkylordHD Nintendo operates in three regions: Japan, PAL (Europe & Australia), and NTSC (North America). I don't think you need to worry about Japanese games, the only question is whether the game or console is PAL or NTSC. If you're getting the games online, most of the time it says so in the description, or just contact the seller.

The Wii U eShop only lists games that you can play on your own Wii U. If it's for another region than your Wii U, it will not be listed in the eShop.

And this is yet another reason why region-locking sucks. If you're importing because Nintendo doesn't sell to your territory you have to pick a region to import from. Given you're in Jordan I'd say Europe would be a good choice (not sure if they have UK-style or Euro two-pin plugs) just because of reduced post for physical games if download proves unfeasible.

Just a minor point - Japan is also on NTSC standard, just like North America is. Yet Japan Wii U can't play North American games and vice versa. So you more of just have to directly look at the country the console and games themselves are from.

I think the TV standards are convenient shorthand, but it might be more useful to say North America, Europe/Australasia and Japan. I mean I rather doubt in the HD era that colour reproduction on TVs adheres to either standard unless you're using a legacy source.
