when a company says they don't pay attention to the competition, you can be sure they are lying. in a market as volatile as video gaming you can bet your bottom yen they all pay attention to each other.

I like Nintendo's secrecy. It keeps things interesting and builds excitement. It's smart because it gets people talking and speculating.

Remember when the DS first came out and Nintendo had a slogan that said Touching is good?
It was all over the place on flyers and adds. Kinda creeped me out when I saw that.

nintendo were going to hold out until E3 and so they want to reveal all then. i'll be looking forward to that one.

Yes I know. I was joking and I do agree with you. But Nintendo only came out to advertise the idea. No more than that.

You just called it a tablet in the post I quoted... And anyway I'm basing my opinion on the current specs and design of the controller, not "speculation."

I agree most tablets are meant simple because they are buttonless. The Wii U isn't classified as a tablet, and even Nintendo mentioned that. The Wii U controller just a cool controller.

I meant to say it's designed to look like a tablet, but it's not supposed to actually function like one.

A monopolistic company likes to bully other companies around and monopolize the _PC market, like Microsoft.

No, no no. I respectfully disagree with this whole line of discussion Apple makes OVER PRICED stuff that is INFERIOR to other products (e.g., no flash, no USB, no memory expansion etc), Nintendo makes consoles CHEAPER which are SUPERIOR to the others. Totally two different things. Apple meh Nintendo FTW. Apple takes something that existed for ages like Webcams and calls it "Face Time". Like other companies took motion control and re-named it. That's not Nintendo. Comparing Nintendo to "apple"... yuck for me. Not to mention that Apple does everything on its own, while Nintendo is not that presumptuous and full of itself and other companies build its consoles. If you want a company whose executives are full of themselves and cocky similar to Apple, it's definitely not Nintendo. Look elsewhere.

Cannot agree with this more. Both companies are innovating, Apple is doing it as a smart business.

also the products aren't over priced. find another laptop with the quality control of the Mac series. asus is as close as you will get. if nintendi had half of.apples design the 3ds wouldn't have been as ugly as it was.

saw a post on another forum how the wii unwilling be different in relation too the other systems mostly Microsoft.

And online too. I can fully see why MS just don't care. They are taking different routes. MS is heading towards an entertainment hub with great online experienc, TV, Kinect etc. No way can Nintendo compete on that level, and they probably don't want to. Nintendo will do solid gaming as always, while dipping their feet into some modern online features etc as they are doing with the 3DS. I would be very surprised if they tried to tackle media on the level MS seems to be.

Even Reggie said today at CES that Nintendo aren't competing with them and are doing their own thing.

I don't think Nintendo was ever really competing with other companies.
They're just making games they hope we'll enjoy. It's what they do best.
