Topic: Reasons why you love/like the Wii U (an actual positive Wii U thread)

Yeah, I like my Wii U and hope that they get some SEGA awesomeness on the VC soon... I still can't come up with any reasons to own a PSBOX41 & Vita yet

Why should we care whether it hits 100mill or 30mill lifetime sales? What difference does it make to us. The Wii was smashing sales expectations daily but that wasn't what made that first year enjoyable and it didn't help with the early drought. At this stage in the Wii's life I was waiting for Mario Kart Wii after having a year where I got Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3 with Super Paper Mario kinda in the shadows.

With the Wii U I'm sitting here waiting for Mario Kart 8 so that's the same. However while they might not have been as fantastic as the Zelda, Metroid and Mario trilogy the Wii got I'm sitting here having enjoyed 3D World, Pikmin, Wind Waker, Rayman Legends and Assassin's Creed. So why should I be annoyed by the Wii U "failure"? The way I see it I'm getting more content here and more quality third party content than I did when they were hitting it big.

I didn't say you should care, but those have been the arguments I've heard on the comments sections here and other places like GN. The Wii U is my favorite Nintendo console in a while and I think it has one of the better line ups with Blue Ocean styled games from the Wii, while have core experinces closer in line with the gamecube.

I'm also Pretty sure X will be in contention with GOTY from many outlet's this year and probably run away with best RPG at alot of place. (That's going to be intresting since the shortlist for big RPGs look's pretty awesome these years.

@skywake Because it means you won't see games like Red Steel 2, Zack and Wiki, Madworld, and many more, games that utilized the unique functions of the system, since unlike the Wii, the Wii U is selling terribly. And you're also not getting games like Muramasa, Sakura Wars, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, games that were unique to the Wii that didn't take advantage of unique control possibilities, but were put on it exclusively regardless since their lower budgets were acceptable on the Wii (and also had that massive install base to justify the risk).

The Wii had some really solid 3rd party support. It wasn't the same support as the other systems, but it was still there en-masse. It was present because the Wii had crazy numbers behind it.

The Wii U, because it doesn't have the same numbers behind it, will not see any of these kinds of games on the system. It will be a Nintendo and indie machine (and all of the indie stuff is also on PC, and most of it is also on PS4/Vita). That's why I care, at least. I liked a lot of the unique 3rd party games the Wii got.

Hopefully that isn't what the future holds, but even if it is, I suppose I would have bought a Wii U eventually for the 1st party stuff, so whatever.

I'm almost positive that when the Wii U Era ends and Nintendo's next console comes to life... Most people will say, "The Wii U may have had terrible 3rd party support but it has some incredible exclusives."

Look at the N64. It had atrocious 3rd party support. But it's really fondly thought of nowadays, since it had some the best games ever made on it (Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 in particular are two incredible games that are still fun to play today. Back then they were mind-blowing).

Well to counter that point there's the fact that the Wii U eShop is significantly more open than WiiWare was. So those lower budget titles can be put on the Wii U at a similar sort of risk given there's no need to actually print the disks. Plus there's the fact that the Wii got its Red Steels and Zack and Wikis before it was clear how well it was going to do. The Wii U got the same (ZombiU, Rayman Legends) it's just that it has scaled back a bit.

Plus again, hard to complain about the exclusives the Wii U is getting when there's X and Bayonetta 2 on the horizon.

It has 3 Mario platformers in it's first year. That's a good thing if you ask me. Especially when you consider that the GCN and N64 only got 1, and the Wii got 3 in it's entire lifetime.So, the Wii U's on a good track to be Mario's best system. And hopefully Galaxy 3 will come out for the system, like Miyamoto hinted at.

Earthbound and Pikmin 3. At least the system isn't a complete failure.

complaining about fanboys being fanboys is like complaining about...I dunno, Ocean tides. You can't change it, you just have to ignore it or deal with it.

And really, I was there in 2007, Sony fans were exactly the same. The amount of hype before and after for Lair was HILARIOUS, for the record.

and Wii U is still doing better than it was at least, even now. It's just that people actually bought that 3D World was gonna make the Wii U the magical 9 million selling console, which I don't say couldn't happen (i dunno, 3D World being a not boring Mario could've been huge maybe?) but was really unlikely.

I think Nintendo will wait a few years before Galaxy 3 to avoid eroding the main Mario series from IP fatigue.

On topic I also enjoy Miiverse except whe people post off topic rubbish and treat it as if its facebook, I feel this year will be great if Nintendo work on improving their online user base by heavily premoting MK8 and SSB4 (cause these two serieses had a great community on Wii) also X and beaf up the VC cause no other console has the potential to play such a wide range of classics.

The whole "this is the game that's going to change things" is to be expected. Its not like any of the games people have said that about on the Wii U have been bad games so it does make sense. People thought Nintendo Land would be the next Wii Sports and even Nintendo did but it wasn't. People thought New SMB would move units but clearly it hasn't and there has been a bit of fatigue there. Then people said it about Pikmin 3 without understanding that while great it has never been the sort of game that drives sales. Then Wind Waker and 3D World. Again, great games but probably a bit of "too little too late" for the massive turn around people were expecting. They did change Nintendo's fortunes somewhat just not to the scale they wanted.

When people cite Mario Kart though, and I know it's a bit of a broken record, I think it's an entirely different thing. For me personally there are only three Nintendo consoles I have gotten that I didn't get because of Mario Kart hype. Those would be the original Gameboy, the Wii and the Wii U. When I got my SNES, DS and 3DS it was almost purely for Mario Kart. When I wanted to get the N64 and GBA it was again purely for Mario Kart. I don't think I'm alone in this given how well it sells.

So the biggest positive of all would be that it is getting Mario Kart and soon finally. Plus this Mario Kart looks to be one of the better ones. That should be enough for anyone to be happy.

honestly it brings our family together, we love playing mario together, or mario party I have a feeling the new Donkey Kong is going to be EPIC!!

In an internet where most Wii U posts seem to be either bashing or endless defense / reassurance, I deeply enjoyed reading this.

I still have hope in the console

I think the biggest positive of them all is that Nintendo is still a company that likes to take risks. That the biggest complaint people can throw at them is that they are sometimes too different in a market of identical boxes with different logos on the front. That if you buy into their products you get content that you won't see anywhere else.

Who else can get you to enjoy paying of mortgages and pulling up weeds? Who else has a child friendly collectathon RPG that grown men will queue for? Or not one but five or more great platformers per generation? Or characters that are so iconic that youtubers spend half of their channels milking the hell out of it.... and then throw all of them into a fighting game together.

That's what's great about Nintendo

I had to bump this thread because the doom and gloom threads about Nintendo have really picked up on this site lately and I'm tired of it!!!

I love my Wii U and have since day 1. My kids were old enough that I took them to their first midnight launch and we've been playing games together ever since. I love Miiverse, the most positive, inclusive and friendly social network ANYWHERE!
@Blast I know how you feel. Everywhere you go it's just Nintendo are doomed, Nintendo fix this, Nintendo do that, Nintendo messed up, Blah, blah, blah. Nintendo knows they've under performed, their board all took large pay cuts as Penance and they're all working hard behind the scenes to correct things. Will they be successful? Time will tell. In the meantime I just try and concentrate on what Nintendo got right and hope they build from there.

I like that it makes me feel like I'm in an exclusive club by owning one.
