Topic: Reasons to buy The Wii U?

Posts 1 to 20 of 39

Man I am telling you, I want one so, so bad but just cannot see to pull the trigger.

I was a HUUUUGE N fan forever and play all the games on my EMU but for some reason, starting with Wii, I never got into the games. Things seem more "catchy" and movement, MP motivated rather than just a single player holding a controller video game

I am a single player who does not play online that likes to sit down hold a regular controller and play some fun games that are not super advance like a lot of my XBONE games and just enjoy fun characters.

Will the library grow this year to have great single player games? Will I buy a Wii U and hear Nintendo is dropping a new system in 16-20 months? Can the U play all regular Wii games, will it ever play Gamecube?

Sorry for all the questions but I really want a Wii U and just venting a bit....LOL thanks for reading

The wording here makes me not sure how to recommend the Wii U. It already has a couple dozen great single player games. What's holding you back?

And Nintendo dropping a new system in 16-20 months is 100% speculation.

Yes, it can play all Wii games.
No, it will probably never play Gamecube without homebrew.

The Wii U can play all Wii games except for very, very few (such as Dance Dance Revolution, which requires a mat to be connected via the GameCube controller connectors on the original 2006 model Wii), but the vast majority of games will work.

20 months is nearly 2 years, and the Wii U will already be 4 years old by then, so a new system wouldn't be completely out of the question say by Christmas 2016, but I wouldn't rule it out as there are plenty of games, new and old, that are worth your attention.

The Wii U cannot play GameCube games, but Nintendo may release downloadable versions of them via the eShop at some point. In the meantime, there are plenty of NES, SNES and GBA games to get through.

Pikmin 3
Child of Light
Bayonetta 1 & 2
Captain Toad
Mario 3D World
DKC: Tropical Freeze
Rayman Legends
Hyrule Warriors
Trine(s)
Wind Waker HD
Monster Hunter

All great games that can be thoroughly enjoyed on your own. Probably way more as well.
As for this year, Zelda, Star Fox, Splatoon and Xenoblade are the big ones. Depends which genres you like.

Thanks fellas

What about just a regular Wii? Looks like a ginormous library and it plays Gamecube, at least some do...

Games (as above, plus...)

Off-tv play (I find looking down at the gamepad more comfortable than looking up at a tv)

Ignore the speculation about a new console. If you've waited this long to buy a WiiU I can't see you running out to get the next one on Day 1.

If you complete all the games listed above and don't think you've had enough from your Wii U I'd be surprised. Can't understand why you've waited.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

Will the library grow this year to have great single player games?
It already has a decent library of single player games. Obviously multiplayer games like Smash Bros and Mario Kart are where it really shines but games like Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and Captain Toad are all worth getting. Then this year we will be getting Xenoblade, Zelda and Splatoon. There are also other games but those are the headline acts.

Will I buy a Wii U and hear Nintendo is dropping a new system in 16-20 months?
Well it's not a brand new system so I'd almost be surprised if we don't hear something in the next couple of years. Getting it that soon however it much less likely, my guess would be that we hear about it at E3 2017 and get it in November 2018. And even if we got it that sooner, say late next year, it's not like the Wii U doesn't already have a decent library. With tech in general if you're always holding out because of some unannounced thing? You'll never buy anything.

Can the U play all regular Wii games, will it ever play Gamecube?
Wii yes, with some exceptions in terms of weird accessories etc. But in general you'll be able to play Wii games and they'll probably even look better. There is also a small selection available to download if that's your sort of thing. Gamecube? Not yet. It may eventually but it's probably better to assume that it won't happen because it might not.

What about just a regular Wii? Looks like a ginormous library and it plays Gamecube, at least some do...
If you're after Gamecube games then sure, that's a better option. But for Wii games I'd probably just go with a Wii U. Purely because the Wii games it does work with, which would be like 99%, it does better and you get access to a lot of new content. And overall I'd definitely lean towards the Wii U because being able to play Wind Waker HD is better than being able to play the original.

My girl got me one for xmas.. love Nintendo but didnt love the wii and was silently a bit disappointed about gerting a U.. I barely played my 360 in the end last gen.. I thought i was over gaming.. So wrong.. Enter Wìi u.. Graphics are superb on most games and in 3 months I already have 8 titles I LOVE and a few other very good ones.. for me that's worth the price of admission.. add virtual console.. and the tablet which I love its comfy to play and worth it even just for your map or offscreen play and I am having most fun ive had with a console since i was a kid.. Highly recommended if your a nintendo fan it has recaptured the Magic for me and im not looking to get another console anytime soon with Xenoblade and Zelda to drop.. I love the thing didnt want to at first but in having that great of an experience im posting on a forum.. I never do that Lol.. All the best

Well, the Wii U already has great single player games, so there's no loss there.

ZombiU is pretty good as well as Lego City...
Wind Waker HD is amazing even though it's a port. An updated/upgraded port, yes, but still a port.
Super Mario 3D World is better single player in my opinion.
Bayonetta 2 is incredible and you get 2 games for 1 if you buy it physically.

On top of that, there are some good single player Wii games you can play thanks to the backwards compatibility like Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, No More Heroes, and the list goes on...

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'm on YouTube.

Personally, the Wii U is my favorite console since the GCN. I've had mine for less than 6 months and I already have 9 games for it. Bayonetta 1 & 2 are, alone, worth the system, and I'm not even really THAT into action fighting games, but that game is 100% gaming bliss. Add Monster Hunter 3 U (even in single player, that game is amazing) and Wind Waker HD, which is a better version of one of the greatest games ever, and right there you have reason enough to get a GCN. Throw in ZombiU, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, even New Super Mario Bros U, and you have a solid enough line up to last you for quite a while.

PLUS there are big games coming this year. If you needed a console to get you to feel Nintendo's magic all over again, this is the console, because it did it for me.

Wind Waker is a big enough reason to buy the console, especially if you've never played it before. As a bonus you get the new Mario Kart. Surely that justifies it. Then there's Smash. Then there's Bayonetta. Then there's Donkey Kong. Then there's Mario 3D World. Do you really need any more reasons?

The other current gen consoles don't match the decor in your house

That's the only reason I can think of thus far

Like Skrtl above, just those few games alone is more than enough reason to own one. It's got the best Mario Kart, the best Smash, the best Donkey Kong (I think so anyway),a fantastic 3D Mario,Bayonetta 2 a sequel to one of the best action/fighting games ever made that betters the original in every department and even comes with the original to prove it.Then if that's not enough coming soon we have what seems to be a true sequel to one of the greatest games ever made period in Yoshi's Wooly World,a sequel to one of the greatest RPG's ever made in Xenoblade X,the most beautiful Zelda ever made that could very well be one of the best too. Then we have Splatoon and Starfox which I feel confident to predict will be at least good if not amazing. When you include what's on the Eshop with some other top quality titles like Sonic Racing,Dues Ex,Rayman Legends that you can get online for peanuts then there is plenty for you to get through. If I had bought mines back in 2012 then I probably wouldn't be singing its praises quite as much as it's endured some frustrating times but I just got it in December and I'm spoiled for choice with games.Even if Zelda is to be its swansong I will still be more than happy with my purchase so if you have any interest in owning one at all then the best advice I could give you is get one

Watching the TV isn't a pain. Being able to have the TV on while you play a quick match of Smash Bros during an add break is a nice little convenience. Particularly if you're into watching sport and Cricket in particular as I am. IMO it has done for gaming what the iPad did for browsing the internet. And as an added bonus I can switch to the TV seamlessly at any point.

Ya, the Wii U has really revolutionized how 9 million people play video games. It's a game changer on par with the iPad for sure!

@MasterBlaster
Sales are about business, I'm talking about what the thing does and I couldn't care less about how many units it moved. In terms of actual conveniences it's on par with what tablets did for browsing the internet, what my Sonos setup did for "putting some music on the stereo", what Spotify did for discovering music, what my NAS did for moving files between devices. Presumably on par with what Netflix will do for "DVD rental" when it launches here in Australia tomorrow. And I'm sure a lot of those things aren't as big as tablet computing is. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those things are less commonplace than the Wii U is. But IMO they're all on par in terms of me not wanting to go back to a time before them.

Before the Wii U I had to always compromise in terms of gaming. If I wanted to have the TV on or if someone else wanted it on I'd have to play a game limited to what a portable could deliver. If I wanted to play a full game I'd have to take full control of the TV so if something like the Cricket was on? I'd either not play anything or play a portable game. I find myself playing a game and then realising the footy has started, switching the TV over to the footy and then finishing the level. Before the Wii U I'd either not start the game that close to when the footy starts or just miss the start of the game. That's a huge convenience.

So you can be a cynical ass if you want, if it makes you feel better for a few seconds go for it. But whether it's with the Wii U or some other form of remote play? I hope this idea stays around for a while. Because it's awesome.
