In amongst all the rage, did anyone stop to think that the delayed release is likey so that Ubisoft only needs to run one marketing campaign, rather than two separate ones for a staggered release?
No?
Well, there's your reason then.
But it's 6 flipping months Bankai! That is half a year we have to wait! It was 3 weeks before release, and they drop this ball on us? Can you see why people are upset at least?
No. I can't.
You're still going to get the game. Unless you have some kind of terminal illness that means you won't be here in six months (and if that's the case a game release is the least of your worries), then throwing a tantrum over this is the very definition of first world problems.
@Bankai has a good point; the delay is terribly frustrating for most, but at least the game will be released at some point in time. You will have it eventually, not now, but in the end, you will. It's not cancelled or anything, and besides, surely you've got better things to do than just wait for one game and complain about delays, right?
I don't think anybody cares that much that Rayman Legends is no longer an exclusive (or at least they shouldn't); one of Ubisoft's defining traits is that they almost never, ever release important exclusives, and every Rayman game gets ported to every system under the sun. Heck, Rayman 2 just had another new port two years ago. And, honestly, as incredibly irritating as delaying a finished game is, releasing all three versions at the same time is probably the wiser business decision for Ubisoft in the long run.
My concern is that they chose September as the launch window, when it will only have to fight for sales and attention with the likes of Grand Theft Auto V, of all things. I think Michel Ancel may be jinxed.
Well, I have a feeling everyone will be too busy with other games (such as Super Mario U, perhaps?) by the time this comes out to bother with it.
I know I will. There's too much coming out around that time.

At the very least, he could have preordered it at a time when Rayman was scheduled to release at Christmas, saw that it was delayed, but decided to stick with the preorder.
That ad makes this announcement even more baffling.
Rayman Legends is a rushed, poorly conceived game that will get average to negative reviews regardless of the platform. This may be an attempt by both Nintendo and Ubisoft to simply create a launch game for the Wii U. However, their development time was too short that they are delaying the game and polishing it. So that would mean their game is still literally incomplete at this point because they would have failed to meet the deadline. Because of that, the companies may be getting in a fowl relationship and causing Ubisoft to loose their confidence in this particular game's sales and thereby release it for the other platforms to cushion the potential damage. I just loosely thought of this because I see no logical sense for Ubisoft to release this game in conjunction with the other AAA releases this fall. I'm not saying that it's right, but as one possible way to make sense of the events.

This delay plus the month it's now planned to release will cost them more than a second campaign. Now they are spending more money having devs port the title over to two other systems while not really recouping the money already spent, when they could be doing so with the WiiU's version. On top of it all GTA V. Sure it won't matter for those who want it and will get it on the Wii U, but the other systems is where it will fail and make this into a disaster since they spent all that money for no return and a soured fan base who might not buy into the company anymore.
There goes yet another reason why I was excited about owning a Wii U. I could have just gotten it for my 360 and played it with a comfortable controller.
Guys. GTA V is not the only game that people are going to buy for a full month.
Rayman isn't even close to the same genre. These are not competitive products.
I assume there will be more AAA titles on the rise this fall such as the popular Call of Duty, not to mention the possibility of a new console release. So, in a sense, they will be competing for who will be that player's next purchase.

Agreed, except not everyone has a $120 to spend on two new games in one month.
Agreed. Thing is, the people who would be inclined to buy Rayman will likely have no interest in GTA.
There are lots of different types of gamers out there. The good news for Rayman is that there is not a lot of competition in its specific niche - 2D, non-violent platformers.

Look at how that worked out for the sales numbers for Rayman Origins.

Agreed. I don't know how this isn't obvious for everyone else, lol.

And there are times where there just isn't a market for a game.
Aside from Nintendo's franchises (which are more a case of brand power selling product than anything else), the 2D platformer is largely dead. None of them sell well.
So be glad that Ubisoft is releasing this at all, and buy it at full price instead of GTA V if you want to ever see another one.
@Bankai Oh, don't worry, I'm still buying it. 7 months is a long time for a game to sit around. I don't know how a dev team could just let a game sit for that long. And even if they do it won't change the quality of the game.
What I'm trying to understand is why delay it when Ubi could have very well just released it right now with barely any marketing and Wii U owners would have jumped on it, since there's virtually nothing on the system. People normally on the fence are more likely to buy a game when there isn't much else, and when September comes along there will be more options around. Then, when it came out for the other systems, Ubi could have just spent most of their marketing for that. I don't know, I think Ubi is making a very wrong move with this one.
