(Games) I love having the quality games that actually work correctly and keep me hooked.
(Backwards compatibility) I never owned a Wii so I've been able to go back and play some of it's great games.
(Gamepad). It has been useful many times for me for use without needing the television. I just wished it wasn't quite as bulky. If Nintendo came out with an update to support for more than one gamepad and then come out with a slightly slimmed down version that you can buy individually, I would happily make the purchase.
Overall, it's been my go to system this gen. It's been the only system that gives the fun content I need.

A number of great-excellent games most of which have high replayability.
Good overall eShop offerings(indies and VC support keeps me busy)
Can download patches and games in the background while I play games, can auto-download system updates(this is refreshing as my main gaming device of last generation, the PS3 lacked these features.)
Cons
Severe lack of third party support
VC support could be better
It has been my main gaming system since it launched. If it weren't for the GamePad I wouldn't jave been able to play it very often. The games are killer. (Captain Toad is my GOTY) I am excited for the future releases. (Mainly Star Fox) and I find it hard to find exciting games on the other platforms. (could be I am more familar with Xbox titles than PlayStation, and Xbox exclusive have been kinda boring)
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Multiplayer in the same room is awesome, but rarely gets used here.
Games library has some great exclusives, but is small and has obvious holes due to limited third party support.
Off TV play using the gamepad is awesome - used way more often than I expected, and while it's not my preferred way to play it's a great option when the TV is already in use.
Full backwards compatibility with Wii software is also awesome - tons of cheap and easily available software that is still worth playing from Wii!
So yeah, Wii U has some very real problems but is a great console despite that. Very glad to own one, still find it hard to recommend to others thought.
I would say a B- right now. Those first few months were dreadful, partially for the obvious reasons, partially because I couldn't really justify buying another Wii U game until Pikmin.
I'll give it a C so far tho it needs alot of improvements to have a B~ now a C is really good, alot of games I own have had 100+ hours put into them, except DKC and NSMBU/LU.
the following is my opinion and how I feel, just to get that out there
The main thing the Wii U needs is more exclusives and yes, remakes, even though alot of people seem to be against remakes, hey at this rate remakes will be what pads out the droughts since 3rd party support is well, non-existent. Now 2015 has a good legion of games comming out for the system, Zelda being my personal highlight, though for next year and 2016 I think Nintendo should really consider...
-Metroid Prime 4 + a trilogy remaster
-Paper Mario - return to the roots with it too
-F-Zero!!
-Releasing Mother 1 and 3 would make the VC gain a few points out of the red-line for me.
-Remastering several great GCN and Wii games
2015 = 30th anniversary of Mario.. Super Mario All-Stars 2 featuring HD remasters of all 3D Mario games anyone?*
A open world Mario title
Kid Icarus for Wii U
Localizing Fatal Frame
Animal Crossing on wii u and have it make use of online gameplay
Generally bring back dead IPs (wave race, 1080 snowboarding, eternal darkness)
More new IPs, Splatoon looks like a excellent start.
just give us games, and, well, games that we want!
Also the virtual console service needs to be improved drastically, the amount of games released for it is abysmal and its a real shame too, Nintendo is sitting on 30 years+ worth of a back catalog that could instantly be available online, and only on the Wii U & 3DS. However, some will try (and they have before) to be technical and say it can't be done that simply, umm, if hackers can do it even though its illegal, Nintendo can do it officially, the size of NES games, all of them could be uploaded to the eshop ina day, along with SNES games, and heck maybe a extra day and N64 titles, all those games on the eshop within 1 to 2 weeks, it can be done, but they choose not to. insert nintendo gimme your money meme with them holding the key to the virtual console treasure chest...and keeping it locked for some ungodly reason...sadface, seriously i want games i couldn't get on the wii vc... and theres ALOT of them
Some system related enhancements I'd like to see include:
Themes, all other consoles including the 3DS have them, its time for the Wii U to join them
Party Chat: wanna get rid of your demographic issue, this is one step to remedy it though not all of it, seriously spotty voice chat in games like mk8 and smash were a huge turn off for me and a few friends, and latency issues, are not a problem with voice chat, they don't wanna do it because they don't want some adult saying obscene stuff to kids and then getting a bad rep online because of parents who don't know how to access parental features, feature: turn voice chat off for kids, easy as that.
Friend lists, messaging & request all in the friend list box, don't make me go to miiverse to message people
System wide notifications
Get rid of region locking
Release a update that allows your GCN adaptor to work with Wii U apps, features, patch select games -like mk8 and pikmin 3-, and patch wii mode -they did it for the gamepad screen- so we can use the adaptor to play N64 games with it, my only regret for transferring all my VC purchases from wii to wii u.
Give us server based account systems like XBL and PSN so we don't need to worry about losing our accounts/purchases if something happends to our Wii U or 3DS.
That was a long winded post I'm sorry o.o
But overall I am loving the Wii U, its a decent console that could and can be made better, if Nintendo chooses to do so.
I've been with Nintendo's consoles since my 5th birthday when I got a Nintendo 64 with Mario 64, Star Fox & of course Ocarina of Time. so i'm not hating on them just stating how I feel.
Wii U rating for me as of 12/14/15 : C
Pros:
Great first party line-up so far! My 2014 Wii U GOTY's were - 1. Mario Kart 8, 2. Bayonetta series, 3. Captain Toad
to refresh my 2013 GOTY's for Wii U were: 1. Super Mario 3D World, 2. Wind Waker HD, 3. Earthbound (virtual console)
Backwards compatibility with Wii/ VC
Excellent console to play with friends online or offline
Can finally pre-download games
Can automatically download and install updates/games while in sleepmode
Cons:
Virtual Console support is VIRTUALLY dead
Lacking features which have been standard in gaming since last generation
Could use more HD remasters/Remakes there should have been some in 2014, this year was quite the dry one, accross all platforms
Gamepad is underused
Accounts are tied to the system and not server/cloud based
No Party chat
Region Locked
Official GCN adaptor only supports 1 game at the moment
