Only need marketing when you have a poor product. If your product is the best you don't need marketing.

Interesting perspective, and of course — hypocritical. Your knowledge of these products' existence has been informed by marketing.

The fact that MK8 got DLC in the first place, no matter what form, is very promising. Hoping for tracks and more vehicles (make a Weeniemobile Nintendo!).

Yeah, I never understood the disdain for marketing in games (movies, television, etc).

I mean yeah, if it was something absolutely ludicrous (like lets say, McDonald's paying to make the Big Mac a new power up in the next Super Mario game) I could understand it, but I've never ran into anything that stupid, and I don't think I ever will.

A cartoony representation of a real world vehicle being added to a racing game doesn't seem like such a big deal. Ninty probably gets some money for letting this happen, Mercedes will get some brand recognition, and players get a new kart to try out (all for free). Seems like a win for all three parties to me.

I think it looks ridiculously out of place, and I can understand people not wanting to encounter it when playing online. It honestly doesn't bother me that much though.

Ok I will have to make an exception for factual statements of the existence of something e.g On the eshop or Nintendo Website.

That is different to trying to manipulate somebody into wanting something.

I don't like it but...
Sonic & Sega Racing did a lot worse by having a real person as a racer... that's just really out of place... if Nintendo did that I'd be very upset.

to even give this issue any thought at all seems ridiculous to me...

Guys, @unrandomsam is right. We must stop this now before an army of brainwashed gradeschoolers descend upon Mercedes dealerships all across the world en masse, and buy cars with the credit cards they stole from their parents' wallets/purses!

Oh the humanity! The Terror! You've all been forewarned!

People complaining free and optional DLC..... LOL

I'm going to download it because I find it hilarious. Mario driving a Mercedes, getting all the ladies. Drive karts, break hearts.

And didn't Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed have Danica Patrick (a real life race car driver) in the game? No one really said anything about that.

I think the only thing that would have made Luigi's Death Stare better is if he was in the Mercedes.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

See,events/news like this shows how much kiddies who rant about inane things plague the internet :>

Its FREE DLC people, come on! Nintendo didn't paid a cent to get the GLA car in game, it was Mercedes who paid lots of $$$. After all, these are dire times and ninty need all the cash they can get :>

Oh, and about people whining about ninty being a sellout, its their IP, so they can do whatever they please, you dont own it. Don't like the GLA car? Don't download it. its not in the original game, so you cant complain its being forced upon you.
Also about people whining about Danica Patrick, you are just all Jelly she is in the game and not you :>

That would have made my life. Someone please make a picture of this!

I've also silently decided that I'm going to play as Pink Gold Peach and drive the Mercedes all the time. I want to watch the world burn.

While I think the Mercedes kart looks completely out of place and stupid, I simply won't use it. I don't understand why people are making a big deal out of something that is completely optional to download or use.

@Moorpheel
Would your opinion be the same if instead of the billboards and signs for things like Toad Pistons/Service, Bowser Oil, Bullet Bill Speedtrials, etc., we had the real life equivalents of Midas, Penzoil, F1 advertisements, etc?

Because my biggest gripe with this sort of DLC is that I'm afraid that's where it'll eventually lead.

So what if it did? Changing the wording on a billboard would change/detriment the gameplay how, exactly?

I would be perfectly fine with that. Advertisements (when used correctly) don't impact your enjoyment of the game. Like in Sonic Adventure 2, I really enjoyed that game but you could see Soap Shoe advertisements and Sonic wore Soap Shoes. Is this Mercedes Kart any different? (I hope I don't start something about Nintendo following in Sega's footsteps and becoming 3rd Party, Sonic isn't the only example) TV shows and movies have promotional material, why is it "Evil" when Nintendo gets a cut of the pie?
